1. Fire is punishment for voting Shas
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (12.05.10)
The fire brigades are controlled by the interior ministry. The interior ministry is controlled by Shas. It is very clear that Hashem might be punishing Israel for putting Shas in charge. The message might really be to get rid of Shas.
2. Adam Neira
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (12.05.10)
The chance of devastating fires would have been reduced greatly if there had been more rainfall in the region over the last six months. I wonder what Rabbi Ovadiah thinks about the concept of "Good reign for good rain" ? It is also interesting to note that it looks like the fires were a result of negligence and not arson. Both can have the same terrible effects but the former method is not conducive to facile blame gaming.
3. Punishment
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.05.10)
Just having to listen to the rubbish spouted by this senile cleric is a punishment in itself
4. This guy makes Judaism look like shit
Gentile   (12.05.10)
Every time he talks it's just shit coming out of his mouth.
5. This Man Needs Some Perki Avot
Whack World ,   US-Israel   (12.05.10)
I am utterly astounded at the nasty disposition this man display on a regular basis. I don't know what irks him so badly but he is no 'Son od Aaron" or a "lover of peace" and certainly violates the elevated Torah precepts of Ahavat Yisrael and that ettiquette is 'above the Torah". Midos came before the Torah was given...for a reason: one must temper their disposition with positivity before learning and sharing the Torah. Or else you may stumble and set a poor example in action, words and deed. Shas needs to find a new "spiritual leader"...this man sounds like an Ayatollah. Very sad indeed, when we Jews lose sight of the very essence of Torah: Modesty (i.e.: moderation...the middle way) it is a lesson in failure. . If you stand too close to the Torah, you will be burned: if you stand too far from it, you'll freeze: therefore, stand in the middle and be warmed.
6. If he is right, then it is only a warning shot.
Josh   (12.05.10)
The curses are far worse than that.
7. Actually....
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (12.05.10)
if there is any reason for the fire, it would be Hashem's anger at the corruption and dishonesty of "religious Jews." It is rare that a week goes by without the arrest of another "religious" leader. The first question we are asked in the World to Come is "Were you honest?" How many Shas Knesset members are in prison?
8. Send in the clowns
Avi ,   israel   (12.05.10)
9. A sign? How about, dont think of giving away Land
BJL ,   usa   (12.05.10)
for "peace". Yehuda and Shomron are not to be given away.
10. There's a 50-50 chance he is right since he is either right
Rivkah   (12.05.10)
or he is wrong. Observing the Shabbat is a protection for a person, a community, or a nation. If only more nations had a seventh day Shabbat by law. Israel sure is ahead of every other country in the world on that one.
11. I agree! Hashem is indeed pissed off !
Yisrael ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (12.05.10)
I am sure She is aggravated by the behaviour of the Haredi, insofar as they, generally, do not work, do not contribute via public service to the State She helped found, make it almost impossible to bring non-Jews under the wings of Her Shechina, and generally make numerous Chillulay Hashem, which only succeed in lowering esteem for Her Torah, and turning secular Jews off Yiddishkeit. And if you're offended by the use of the feminine for Hashem, congratulations ! You've just done another avera, by thinking of Hashem as being a human being with male sexual characteristics !
12. 'desecration of Shabbat'
Zev ,   Israel   (12.05.10)
I would think that it is because of the expulsion of Jews from their homes in the land of Israel. Those that are willing to give away parts of the land of Israel should keep quiet.
13. no rain = punishment for negotiating with the enemy
Sarah ,   Israel   (12.05.10)
HaShem says: Do not negotiate with the enemy and do NOT give away the land. If we obey HaShem we get rain and blessings, if we don't we get no rain and fires.... So yes, this is a punishment. And it may get worse.
14. No, the fire was because we Jews do not
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.05.10)
remove these pagan hara-dim from our Zionist land. This ayatollah yusuf is no better than nasrallah and his followers are like the arab that cheered and danced during the fire. They are an evil enemy and money to buy new fire fighting equipment and hire new firefighters went to these parasites. Even his sh-ass party controlling the min of interior did nothing to modernize the fire department and hire more personal. Those lazy yeshiva students should have volunteered to help fight the fire.
15. With all due respect to the honorable Rabbi Yosef...
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem of course!   (12.05.10)
But his comments echo those of Rabbi Peretz immediately after the Avivim Bus tragedy when a group of children were killed. As I recall Rabbi Peretz said that the children were killed because the Mezuzot in their parents homes were defective! Rabbi Yosef is a very important rabbi and I would never consider criticizing him but it seems to me that his comments last night are rather unusual and seem to point to the fact that the G-d of Israel is "picky-uniy" and/or "nit-picky"!
16.  Here's a surprise
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.05.10)
Religious people on our side, also say the same thing and believe that God took revenge from "Israel" for its crimes against Allah's blessed Olive tree....Well It's funny and sad at the same time God help God!!!
17. although Hashem is omnipotent we have no right to say that
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (12.05.10)
this happenned for a specific reason Ecclesiastes says that the the wisdom from stupiditity is like the like from the darkness .the Zohar explains that more light comes from dark than light itself meaning that dark is transformed into light and that good comes out of very bad events what the good is i do not know but only in retrospect will the good be seen as G-d says to Moshe when asking why bad happens to good people you will not see my face but only my back [in retrospect] Hamokom yenachem eschem besoch shaar avelei zion ve yerusholiyim
18. amazed every time a new
Yoni ,   Tel Aviv   (12.05.10)
Each time that I read the feedbacks full of violence and hatred toward torah, charedim and great rabbis I am suprised a new The fact that Rav Ovadia quoted the Talmud should not be news the article should be written next time only about the hatred and violence in the feedbacks of these articles against the religious and the Torah You guys are totally insane!
19. Bipolar
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (12.05.10)
On the one hand ,we have Nobel prize winners, and on the other we have the lunatic fringe represented by this drag queen from shas.
20. fire is punishment from god?
yosi ,   faraway   (12.05.10)
Dear rabbi Yosef. You are wrong, very wrong. Your way of thinking is a punishment from god for jewish people. Instead of talking this nonsense take out all your useless yeshiva buhars and go fight the fires Do something useful for Israel. God will appreciate your deads not your stupid talking. God bless jewish people, the real ones
21. This man is
Sagi   (12.05.10)
despicable
22. right now the fire is blazing at Nir Etzion
(12.05.10)
which is a religious village!!!!! this guy is such a nutcase. He should not even be allowed to speak the words of G-d.
23. Shas is THE punishment from G-d
Sallee ,   Haifa   (12.05.10)
24. Is this not Blaspheme?
donsaliman ,   Nahal Oz, Israel   (12.05.10)
How dare a human being thinks he or she know what G-d thinks and does.
25. The biggest punishment that Israel has
Dyslexic ,   Israel.   (12.05.10)
are these religous lunatics. What amazes me is that you have these people that believe in this rabbi.
26. Both are True. Reason and Faith are both True
Yaakove ,   North Israel   (12.05.10)
First we must apply reason- get some darn planes, deal with future terrorist and criminal actvities of this nature. Not allow illegal enivornmentally hazardous burning. But aslo Israel has a need for self scrutiny. I will start with myself, and put on tefillin today. I will be less judgemental of others, and see Godliness/positiveness in them. What can you do my brother and sister?
27. USING THE WORD "G'D"
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (12.05.10)
For an publication like Ynet to use the word G'd even in the context of a very much disliked Rav to say it nicely, is sacriligious. Our Liberalist Zionists have their own religion and even a calamity like this will turn out to be a great event for some serious Haredi bashing. Already in an opinion piece by Mr Fishman, the daily barrage of attacks so carefull orchastrated by our Liberalists goes on and on. All the ills of this utopian secular Zionist society are to blame on the religious Jews. It seems that even during Chanukah, many people do not really undrestand, that during this period in history, Hellenist Jews were more against the Torah then the Greeks themselves. So again we can look forward to the same hate filled TB's.
28. Stop...
Lior ,   Israel   (12.05.10)
ENTITLEMENTS....now!! While my state continues to fund this kind of BS to the tune of millions and millions, there is no money for infrastructure. When will this government learn it serves "all the people??"
29. #15 - A person who talks like this...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (12.05.10)
...does not deserve respect.
30. It's a punishment for occupying other's land!!! Silly
