1. Yishai
Nathan ,   Milano, Italy   (12.04.10)
An honest believer, a serious politician should resign. What about you Mr. Yishai?
2. Questions
Rachel ,   US   (12.04.10)
He might get a pass for not purchasing the firefighter planes because they should have been purchased by the Olmert government. But why did it take 2 hours to respond to the fire? And why did Israel not have ANY fire fighting chemicals? Who's running the fire dept, some flunky cousin of his?
3. Resign
John   (12.04.10)
Take it like a man, Yishai and resign. Your predecessors may also be at fault but you are the one in charge now. It is your responsibility.
4. Yishai should step down.
Noa ,   Tel Aviv   (12.04.10)
5. yishai not now
alexi   (12.04.10)
Now is not the time for who did what. Bibi and lieberman are doing a great job, right on top of it, quick and thorough out of the gate. When a US tanker came to Israel's attention with twice the capacity of the russian tanker, bibi signed a deal on the dime and the plane is expected early Sunday morning. That's the flexibility that's required in leaders; for example in the 2006 war, when bombing was not doing the job,you flex and adjust. Find the weak hassan spots and counter them with heavy troops after softening them up with incendiaries, fuel air devices, gas and mine clearing device and whatever. No, of course olmert and halutz didn't do it because olmert was and is a technical moron, and halutz is only an airman and can't deal with ground issues. And olmert was slow-understand slow. Olmert said he would not resign because he had to fix israel's deficiencies. He fixed the fire services-didn't he???!! What a bloody incompetent, Olmert, along with his fan club of haber, beilin, ben ami, peres, ramon, zaken, liel, verter, barnea, benn and amir oren. are a bunch of pacific wimps who only encouraged hezbollah's aggression. I want to illustrate a point here that is real and not just empty talk. During this fire catastraphie, Peres prayed to god that the fire would stop. Prayer has its place but god helps those who help themselves. Get on the phone and call other presidents with bibi using a coherent list to accelerate the materiel flow. No, peres prays. And what is livni going to do when she is PM? run to Ban-ki-moon of the UN who will say he is sorry and do nothing. Israel will commit suicide if it votes for any more livnis, olmert, baraks, and peres'. I support bibi as his leadership is now evident. He cares about israel. And many pundits have to eat their words because they lieberman has proven his worth in securing the help especially from the russians. He has been a real asset as opposed to livni and her hole filled resolution that is unenforceable. Also note that while ashkenazi and the idf have done good work, barak has been almost silent; He doesn't do accidents. That is not his thing. Put the fire services as a ministerial responsbility under Yaalon as this is a national security responsibility. Whoever you vote for, it should a can do person, not some empty face. its really simple moving forward. Buy an assortment of water planes, one big one, and stock sufficient chemicals retardents and other material and protective devices. Take the fire services and put it under a national security post like Yaalon. Remove it from all the local controls. And spend whatever is needed as this is a national security matter. Don't pull an olmert on the public. Do it so israel will be prepared. Hezbollah rockets will cause fires which may become a megafire.
6. Budget for firefighting
Joe Charlap ,   Jerusalem   (12.04.10)
If the government gave less money to the yeshivas there would be more money for more essential things such as firefighting. Lets get our priorities in the right order
7. Ho hum- another political cover up
Arnold - Canada ,   Montreal Qc   (12.04.10)
When you take office in your portfolio within the government, you push for what is necessary when you see that previous people did not do the job right. Going along the same do nothing path does not give you the right to blame the person in charge before you.
8. Resign, ya' extortionist
JB ,   NYC   (12.05.10)
This guy is more concerned with looting the public coffers for stipends for his good for nothing black-hatted masses. The distribution of ministerial portfolios has nothing at all to do with an appointee's qualifications or experience. Its all back room dealing and back-scratching. Its the same reason Peretz somehow ended up Defense Minister and Lieberman FM. Its revolting, and Shas is the most revolting of the lot.
9. RESPONSIBILITY
HAIM ,   BOSTON USA   (12.05.10)
ISHAY is not shirking his responsibility ? He blames others for his incompetent behavior. When it came to get funds for the yeshivas he was threatening with to resign. Never a threat for lack of funds for the fire protection system. Just another shmok!!
10. priorities are ...........
shavuo yih besedert?   (12.05.10)
seeing your mates sitting down all day real preparedness for incidents like this, isnt preservation of human life far more worthy and is the practical application of studying torah, so why allow such a miguided path to flourish, basic priorities leaders of israel, health police, fire defence, food n water,
11. prepare for the worst?
igor   (12.05.10)
have you no imagination? of course hashem has blinded you by the light, welcome to the world of shadows
12. swap a fighter jet for a fireplane
(12.05.10)
instead of buying the latest fighter jets worth billions, could buy a couple of good sized fire planes, it is onlyy going to get hotter in the world,
13. haredi fire service
(12.05.10)
why not make special haredi fire units , they can read ,sit study torah while they wait for fire, god bless the brave men ,women who are dealing with this situation now,
14. Olmert didn't buy planes after the lebanon war fires
jason ,   haifa israel   (12.05.10)
His govt did nothing. This govt added 100 million more in funding that was nonexistent under olmert. Olmert and Livni govt didn't get soldiers tanks that could stop rockets from hezbollah because of the cost yet the media loves her. Yet Kadima brings back dan halutz and yet yishai gets all media hits when if kadima wins next election halutz will be the defense minister.
15. No Yishai...NO..You had TWO years...
Israeli 2   (12.05.10)
...and to blame others is a cheap shot. To have dedicated part of your efforts to purchasing fire fighting planes takes a few hours as BIBI has proven. One signature. No Yishai...No...you had two years.
16. predecessors AND yishai. disgusting, criminal, fools.
dante ,   uk   (12.05.10)
17. Ban him and former Interior Ministers from holding office
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.05.10)
Simply ban him and the other former Interior Ministers from holding any position in government. The drought has only gotten worst the last few year and should have been a major warning. Sure the others share part of the blame but he is currently in office and had almost 2yrs to atleast start to fix the problem or told the public of the true danger.
18. Don't blame others! You have had years to fix it!
David ,   Karmel, Israel   (12.05.10)
You know how to extort money for the Haredim but not for the sake of the country! You are responsible for all the deaths and damage. You should brought up on crminal negligence charges! Resign now!
19. everyone is absolutely right....
galilean ,   Israel   (12.05.10)
Good to see that people are understanding the situation on the proper note. One more item that is a very important issue here is that there aren't enough firefighters. Only 1500 for the whole country? I still find it hard to believe, but this is the number reported on TV here. And yeah, an HONEST politician would resign. But we're not talking about that kind of person, are we?
20. unfair criticism - especially #6
Shalom Hartman   (12.05.10)
Do you really think that Yishai is to blame - what you are saying about his lack of concern, means that every minister who fails to get money out of the finance ministry is not doing his job - to date NO minister has managed to get as much as he would like out of the finance ministry Do you really think that if the yeshivot got less, the fire service would get more? That is a simplistic approach that has no roots in reality.
21. BUT INSTEAD THE HAREDI GOT THE MILLIONS ....
stude ham   (12.05.10)
similar types of priorities were found after katrina totalled new orleans.
22. typical Israeli and typical YNET
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (12.05.10)
Two ocmments: a. I am not surprised that some talkbackers have managed to blame the Charedi for this too. Maybe because it is easier to blame them than look at the real reason, which brings me to # 2 #2--It is typical Israel not to plan and not be prepared. Israelis are proud fo their ability to pull rabbits out of hats. BUT they are terrible at planning in advance. My thesis isn't new, conversations about the same thing were held years ago when the Bridge crossing the River in Tel Aviv collapsed and all those Maccabian Athletes dies. It was said when the catering hall in Jerusalem collapsed due to a faulty floor construction, and who knows how many other times. Let's fight the fire now and see if government can sit down and PLAN for the future. Israel can't continue to fly by the seat of her pants.
23. The budget is not big enough
Sagi   (12.05.10)
Now then Mr, Yishai. I really wonder why that budget is not big enough. Perhaps you have an explanation. Could it possibly be that the money went elsewhere. You know where I mean Mr. Yishai, don't you ?
24. yishai
sas ,   israel   (12.05.10)
it's always easy to blame the one before. Be a MAN. Be a LEADER. SHOW RESPONSIBILITY and RESIGN. You certainly failed in this case. It appears as if you really do not care and your only interest is THE RABBI and your followers.
25. Shas,the devil's den;Israel's shame
Moshe   (12.05.10)
What the hell have you been doing for the past 2 years, except having photo-ops with your private god josef and partying with your schnorrer friends, rabbis & co. And John, don't suggest to him to be a man and resign. He is not a man, never was, never will be. PS: How about taking the money from the yeshivots and give to the firefighters. They save lives, you take lives. With your black outfits, you are always ready for funerals.
26. Of course Shas blames everybody else for the Jews' woes
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (12.05.10)
Standard operating procedure for Shas. If it's a yeshiva, then they're interested. If it's anything that serves a yeshiva or their constituents, then they're interested. If it's anything else, then forget it. Shas has no interest. Shas has no interest in the armed forces (other than keeping their voters out, of course). Shas has no interest in the education system (other than their own private one, of course). Shas has no interest in high tech (which is for other people to work in, not Shas voters). Shas has no interest in the environment (the what?). Shas has no interest in transportation, health, agriculture, or anything else that doesn't immediately affect their own Shas budgets. In other words, Eli Yishai sat on his duff for the past 2 years and didn't bother noticing that the country is both in a serious drought and has an inadequate fire fighting infrastructure. Just wait until 2011, when the ever worsening water crisis raises its ugly head again. No doubt Eli Yishai will blame that on everybody else as well.
27. he should resign, killing of 41 people isn't
ghostq   (12.05.10)
something you can blame on previous tearm, especially, when he was in the job 2 years, 2 years is long enough time to fix problem that other people created.
28. Carmel fire
yoel reuben ,   Lod Israel   (12.05.10)
Now starts the "blame game" the issue of fire fighting equiptment or a most needed water carrying aircraft was never taken into consideration, but Yeshevot was, more money for those not serving in the Army was, tthrowing foreigns children out of Israel was- Resign Eli Eshai and prove to us you are a man willing to accept responsibility.
29. Hero
Avi ,   IL   (12.05.10)
His efforts are to be commended though his voice was a little faint and his stamina left to be desired aside from that he is a hero
30. FIRST AND FOREMOST -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.05.10)
- NO AMOUNT OF FUNDS, CAN COOPE AGAINST DELIBERATE ARSON - !!!. SECONDLY - He said he had tried to increase the firefighting services' budget. "We did whatever we could to add aid to the firefighting services, but the government makes the decisions in the end. I've had accomplishments too, but in the end we only got NIS 100 million (about $28 million) out of the NIS 500 million ($138 million) we asked for. EXACTLY - -TALKBACK 36 AND 38 - http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3993903,00.html It is not yet clear whether Yishai's call for a national investigating committee will be answered, since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposes such a move. - AS ABOVE !!!.
