1. clinton and barak
alexi   (12.07.10)
empty vessels characterizes the both of them. When forced to put it into writing, clinton was found incapable. Naturally barak runs after her with appeasement gestures. For a highly decorated general not to be able to cut honest serious deals is shocking. And bibi seems to be led by the nose by barak and ben eliezer as he defers to their generalship. He must know that barak has been a disaster since him Pm days, even though he aims for peace. Bibi and lieberman are coming off a good show in the fire management where barak was awol. He should have had the fire service up and ready back ini 2000. That tells you something about him. Bibi has to stiffen his spine, look at his record and stop panicking or deferring constantly to barak . He should try to lure shneller and afalo and a few other. That combined with his new status, he will get more mandates in the next election. Hold your position because obama will continue to advocate the arab position according to his blood pact with khalidi.
2. Barak and Clinton?
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (12.07.10)
What can come out of any talks between this to not trusted at all persons? Just more lies and lose of face by Israel. Bibi please!!!!! Send Barak home, nobody in Israel likes him and in the USA they are sure he is a clown!
3. Where's Moshiach ?
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (12.07.10)
Where's Moshiach when you need him ? I am ready to lead but need some level of support. G-d has a plan for the the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Continue to deny it and see what unfolds.
4. You see!
Rachel ,   US   (12.07.10)
Saying no to Obama is not the end of the world. The guy just adopted Bush tax cuts. Dems are very concerned by 2012. They ,along with the GOP, will not let him sell you out at the UN, it would hurt them. There's a new reality in the US.
5. Dealer Barack is too expensive for Israel
Michael ,   Moscow, USA   (12.07.10)
Russian veto in UN Security Council is definitely cheaper: 1. Just sovereignty on a few Russian Orthodox Churches – not all East Jerusalem 2. Israeli export rather than import: 3 billion of US$ now for a delivery of few F37 in 2017 with some dubious characteristics – as oppose to an export of Israeli drones to Red Army potentially worth more than $3B 3. Just good personal relations between Netanyahu and Medvedev are a great counterbalance to a one-sided and very dependent US-Israeli foreign relation
6. Abbasss a Smile is not a mandate
Martin ,   SA   (12.07.10)
The land is ours, Jordan abandoned it.Just because Abass has a smiley face does not mean he has a mandate. Surely we have more important matters to deal with than butter up Hillary. The illusory window of peace is now closed. Let the curtain fall on this deceptive charade. It is admitted by the arabs that they have more important issues than peace in in our territories including Yehuda & Shomron. US is avoiding the real problem Iran and its neighbours. Let them move focuss and come back to us another day when they something on the table besides armaments. Let them engage with Saudis and later perhaps with Jordan. We must stop talking to messengers. end.
7. Hallelujah!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.07.10)
1. The United States has reneged on arms deals with Israel in the past. For example, an arms deal that was concluded between Israel and the United States during the Ford administration was promptly disavowed by the United States when Carter took office. 2. A "written guarantee" of a United States veto in he Security Council is not worth the paper it is written on. Taiwan had a written guarantee from the United States that the U.S. would veto any attempt to annul Taiwan's membership in the United Nations. However, as a condition of agreeing to join the United Nations, the People's Republic of China issued a two-pronged quid pro quo: (i) it was to become a permanent member of the Security Council; and (ii) Taiwan's membership in the United Nations was to be permanently rescinded. Despite the written guarantee to veto any such resolution, the United States voted in favor of the removal of Taiwan and the admission of the People's Republic of China. Looks like Abbas bet on the wrong pony. Not only will there be NO freeze on construction in Jerusalem, but there will be NO freeze on construction in Judea and Samaria as well. I call that a win-win.
8. obama kisses saudi king's hand but kisses iran's backside

9. 1st the Fire now try this Incendiary device
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (12.07.10)
I wonder who in our government, especially in the Prime Minister's office - you know, the office of the man who almost exclusively handled these talks - will announce in the wake of the criticism that this calamitous failure will attract, that either he's being ‘lynched by the media’ or that it wasn't his responsibility. Maybe it was that white haired old guy in Ramallah who has 3 S. American countries ready to recognise his people's statehood or alternatively is ready to shut down the PA and welcome back the complete de facto occupation of the West Bank. No wait, it's not his fault either. I got it. It's that black suspiciously Muslim guy in the White House. Yeah that's it. He didn't offer us enough, in F35 planes, money, political support to neutralise that pesky white haired old man in Ramallah if he got UN General Assembly support for a unilateral declaration of independence. That's it. That'll work. Wait! No? It doesn't? So who else is there? My Cabinet colleague the Foreign Minister who no foreign country wants to host because he’s too racist? The Defence Minister who keeps embarrassing me with his close friendship and his control, like a sultan, over those lousy settlers in the West Bank? Or maybe then it's the settlers. Yes it’s them and especially the new breed, the Hardalnikim - Haredi Dati Leumi - who reject outright the rule of Israeli law, the principles of democracy and answer to their own version of a higher authority, who run the Civil Administration and whose cousins serve in the West Bank IDF units and refuse orders to dismantle illegal outposts? No, not them? What about the Interior Minister? No, no. They've already 'lynched' him. Ah well, what about Sara, the wife. Yes, yes. That's it! She's responsible for all this. I'll divorce her and that way save the country! Well maybe not the country. It's too late for that. But I can save myself. Dad? Hold on. I'm comin' home.
10. fire management
(12.07.10)
"Bibi and lieberman are coming off a good show in the fire management where barak was awol" Lieberman? Fire management? you are delirious!
11. What I don't understand is ....
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.07.10)
Why has there never been any pressure on the Arabs? The US supplies over 1/2 their income and yet has never ever applied any sort of pressure to do anything. Whereas they give us aid in the amount of <3% yet attempt enormous pressure, when we are the ones willing to negotiate. Let's see how much the next Congress cuts the aid to the Arabs. Should be a lot.
12. Obama need to learn israel history, asap.
Jacob ,   LA   (12.07.10)
how much jews died because usa "help".
13. US to continue talks with squishy-soft Barak
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.08.10)
Clearly, they still see Barak as more pliable than Netanyahu. Lest we all forget, Barak is not the PM and Labor has little support beyond the party faithful.
14. Future Israeli-American relations...
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.08.10)
...will be a multi-polar instead of a unipolar relation in which USA alone cannot dominate the world economy nor dictate world affairs, as the US economy's percentage of the world economy is declining (despite growth - marginal growth) since the world economy is growing faster. Israel will have to rely on good relations with India, China, Japan and Brazil as well. And the US policy of Israel "seeking American recognition" or "acceptance" will finally come to an end and Jews will finally realize the value and importance of sovereignty and independence and Jews will realize that independence and sovereignty are not only a matter of politics, economics and military might but also a matter of psychology. Jews need to internalize in their minds what it means to be truly independent and sovereign.
15. # 10
(12.08.10)
Look at the list of countries that Lieberman traveled to over the past two years, and at the list of countries who promptly came to fight the fire at Carmel. You may find some striking coincidences.
16. 14 -You are living in the past.
Dave   (12.08.10)
There is no such animal as truly independent and sovereign in the 21st century, era of the global village. Even super powers as the US, Russia and China depend on other nations, the latest Carmel fire should have thought you a thing or two. Israel future is dependent on its good neighborly relations in the region as well as globally. Military might alone will lead to its demise.
17. 15 - Look at that list and you will find
Dave   (12.08.10)
.striking resemblance to their declaration of recognition in PAL. state. stop deluding yourself the man is a disaster and needs to disappear
18. US should pull out altogether out of this
Mark ,   US   (12.08.10)
mess and let Israel deal with it on its own. After all the US can want a solution more than the Israelis themselves. Leave them the phone # and working hours when they can call.
19. Only "peace talks" when winner gives land to loser.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.08.10)
"Peace talks" between Israel and the P.A. are the only such talks, in history, when the winner was expected to give away their land to the loser in the wars. These "peace talks" also the only such talks when a nation gave land to enemies which have more than 600 times it's land mass. Let's admit "peace talks" with the P.A. are a total fraud and put them out of their (and our) misery.
20. huh? i'm lossing patience with obama the slow wit. one term
ralpoh   (12.08.10)
21. wrong. israeli impatience with naive, stupid obama. 2nd wors
ralph   (12.08.10)
worst president. but close second to carter. very dangerous to world peace and us peace and strength.
22. no freeze
bruno ,   Portugal   (12.08.10)
Great ! Good news ! Just keep the Americans wondering. Receive them with the French slogan : une fin de non recevoir...
23. US promises again
John ,   New Zealand   (12.08.10)
Now we see that Clinton's promises are worth the paper they were not written on, just like past promises - . Trust the US? Hell no!.
24. Ussishhkin-wit, satire, & insight, but the "readability"..
Ozraeli ,   Australia   (12.08.10)
I liked your post; thought it had humour, insight, & was thought provoking (the object of all good TB's!), but lost its impact, & was largely wasted due to difficulty in reading. IMO, when people quickly read (or scan) through dozens of responses & regular TBers (often better than the articles!), a TB needs to be well laid out, to allow ease of reading & digestion. That is why I (a semi agnostic, somewhat liberal personally, but fairly conservative in economics & foreign policy) can happily read "Marcel's" (apparently, an Evangelical US Christian) lengthy posts, because of well structured arguments & summaries, even if faith based (IMO, not enough hard facts to lean on); but find it difficult to read the ALL CAPS of "AM, Sweden", or all lower case of others, even though I usually agree with the majority of their argument. Personally, I would have paragraph spaced each Q & A, for readability & impact. Give people an opportunity to laugh! BTW, I almost always disagree with your conclusions, but respect your analysis as fact based & reasonably rational. As a classmate of mine (now a lawyer...) used to say: "You're may be right, but you're not very persuasive!" I did get a good laugh though, & it was thought provoking.
25. Mazal Tov!
Avi The Builder ,   Eretz Yisrael   (12.08.10)
Now start building everywhere, if Barach refuses to sign the building permits, fire him. Israel is not for sale!
26. #19
pal ,   palestine   (12.08.10)
who said we want peace talk . Abbas needs to dissolve the PA and we all live in one place, river to sea . . the only reason he did not do that yet is because he is an Israeli agent .
27. #26 Sadly, You're Right
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.08.10)
So It's Time for Our People to Move On, It's not too late to regain the initiative and come away stronger than ever. otherwise we'll regret it and by that time regrets will be useless . any way, the good thing is that Netanyahu failed to blackmail the United States.
28. freeze
colin   (12.08.10)
The freeze called off afer the muslim american president realses that Israeli DO NOT NEED-WANT -CARE FOR any of his bullshit The cowardly groveling backstabbing barak will pull down his pants again hoping to get a bit of grace.
29. PA to declare state next year, ground work already started
Bloodsycot ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.08.10)
3 S. American countries have just declared a PA state with 4 more to follow soon, with EU and Turkey later. Obama working on deal with PA to restart talks on security, water and land swap for abstaining in UNSC vote on PA state.
30. To: No. 26
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.08.10)
River to sea? Oh, I'm all that for the ersatz "Palestinians," as long as you realize, of course, that it isn't going to be the Jordan River and it certainly isn't going to be the Mediterranean Sea. Sorry. The Jews extended a hand in friendship and cooperation to you long ago. You have always solidly rejected it. Well, you have only yourselves to blame and after nearly seventy years of unrelenting terror on the part of the ersatz "Palestinians," we're more than a little tired of you. I'm sure you have a future. I hope it is a prosperous and happy one. But I can tell you for a certainty that your future is not in Eretz Israel. You've had your chances and blown them all, rather spectacularly, I might add. You're fresh out of opportunities. Sorry. You should have taken the offer in 1947. But you cannot put toothpaste back into the tube, and the pile of dead Jewish bodies has grown much too high. C'est la vie. No one ever lost any money betting on the ersatz "Palestinians" to make the worst decisions possible.
