1. US recognizes Mid-East reality
tamhighpoint ,   Prince George, USA   (12.09.10)
Here we go again - the gerbil is on his wheel again, thinking he going to get somewhere as he spins and spins around and around. Israel is for real - recognition of her is essential for the start of any peace process. Duh!
2. They must be VERY dissapointed with the arabs
bob96 ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.09.10)
The only way the americans would stop pushing for the settlement freeze, as they did relentlessly for 2 years, is that they FINALLY quit deluding themselves into thinking the palestinians (or any arab country) are real "partners for peace" and that they're not interested at all in direct talks. So, Bibi scored many points just by not bending over to USA (no easy task for that man), and the worls today realizes arabs cannot be trusted - for anything.
3. leadership and rockets
alexi   (12.09.10)
some people want to lead israel through its history: Ben gurion, begin, shamir, peres, livni. Olmert was an accident because of sharon's stroke. Bibi has run for office to be PM. I personally thought that he was more a UN ambassador like livni. No, he wanted to be PM Here we are second time around. And bibi did a very good job dealing with the fire along with lieberman. i won't compare but you know the olmert government and sheetret were disinterested like barak in managing fires. In the midst of doing a nice job, bibi veers off with several moves that are intended to improve israel's position but do the opposite: 1) Someone swings an axe at me and I say am sorry and pay reparations??!! who in their right mind would do this. There are other ways than bowing down which will not satisfy erdogan one bit. 2) Instead of focussing a lightning fast set up of an air fleet fire central control under yaalon or aharonovitch, he proposes an international fire rescue group with Turkey involved. So when Hezbollah causes a fire, Turkey will have a veto on fire planes being used. What kind of rubbish is this? Who thinnks of this? Lieberman may be a bit rough, but you punch th ejewish people, he punches back. Meanwhile arab citizens of israel are wild in their disloyalty and the livnis and bravermans support their right to do so.And liberman is steady. Bibi, now you send barak on another wasted missions to kiss obama and make up. Anyways I can't help you. olmert was corrupt and hated the idf. You are clean but you are not comfortable in your own skin as PM. turn the keys back to likud for replacement. As you are perceived as uncomfortable, israel is getting whacked by gaza, PLO, obama. leiberman will be the next PM as I am sure that most israelis are tired of weak leadership. Barak, olmert/livni, now you-it is too much. Who speaks for Israel??!!
4. US promise
John ,   New Zealand   (12.09.10)
So what happened to the verbal agreement between the Sec of State and the Israeli PM? There was an agreement but when Israel asked for it in writing so they could vote on it then quick as a flash nothing happened and the US went into mumble mode. Clinton is all talk but when it comes to the crunch her word is worthless, because Obama didn't like her promises so he went back on them. Little wonder 25% of Americans think he is a Muslim despite him proclaiming he isn't.
5. Now lets start moving the arads to Jordan
yehoshuaj1 ,   usa   (12.09.10)
6. #2, doesn't sound like that
Danny   (12.09.10)
sounds like Israel is getting blamed....
7. To the Americans:
Israeli 2   (12.09.10)
You are now doing the Face Saving Talk routine. You shall NEVER be forgotten as the worst anti semitic presidency and administartion in US history... not excluding Carter of course. I am so glad that you are toast.
8. The reality is
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (12.09.10)
that the US is too chicken to do what it takes to end the occupation: cut off all aid to Israel and put US troops on Israeli soil, demanding an end to the occupation immediately. It just demands the will to do it. Instead, our US government is simply preparing the world for Israel to start WWIII, the one in which A-bombs will land on US soil, and then goodbye Israel.
9. George Mitchell
Harold ,   USA   (12.09.10)
I think this is going to be George Mitchell last and final try. If he returns empty handed then the Middle East problem will be referred to the United Nations and ask the world to solve it.
10. Lame duck president is finally facing the reality.
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (12.09.10)
Where can I send my 25 cents change to the big mouth empty headed usurper?
11. In other words, Bibi showed that
Ron ,   USA   (12.09.10)
the Clinton/Obana illusory "promises" were fake as Obama had no intention to honor them nor put them in writing. Obama made a fool of himself once again and Bibi outfoxed him.
12. The best policy for America is to leave Israel alone.
Rivkah   (12.09.10)
13. Much ado about nothing
citizen   (12.09.10)
So what will the next round of discussions bring? The past has shown us one thing, the Arabs will use any excuse not to reach an agreement. Of course, Israel will always be blamed.
14. Arabs wasted opportunity.they don't want peace.
(12.09.10)
15. Time on the side of Palestinians.
Matt ,   UK   (12.09.10)
The US is is at least five years behind Israel in reality. Israel is five years behind the settlers in reality. Palestinian independence is probably about five years in the settlers future reality and the UN is stuck in time. That makes Palestinians the first ever time travelers.
16. #2
Palestinian   (12.09.10)
Well, the world today realizes that Israel is responsible for the current impasse. There is difference between what the world can do to pressure Israel(do nothing) and what it thinks about Israel (real obstacle for peace). Good luck with your arrogance.
17. Obama tried to sell the world a spin - that the
Harry Wright ,   UK   (12.09.10)
biggest problem in the world is the Israeli/Pals conflict when it is the biggest rip-off in the world, worth billions, maybe trillions by now. The Pals got themselves a cash cow. Obama got a whole string of people to support his madness, including Petraeus, Abdullah, Bill Clinton, Orens and Indyk. “In order to isolate and pressure Iran, he BELIEVES he needs to unite Israelis and Arabs with the rest of the world in a grand international anti-Iranian coalition." So he tried to strangle Israel under false pretenses to get his legacy of a peace deal between Israel and the Pals. That was all it was. He fawned over Abbas and promised him Israel on a platter because he could not bring himself to entertain the idea that the Pals would rebuff him. He got a nice long settlement freeze for him but Abbas would not even look his way. Abbas was playing with him. As a glutton for punishment, he tried to get another freeze for him but he finally realized that Abbas is only playing games. Well Wikileak exposed him as a liar because everybody who is anybody knows that Iran is the biggest problem and tackling Iran does not depend on the Israelis and Pals. Wikileak showed up his poor policies - spending an inordinately great amount of time and energy pursuing his pet project while neglecting the Iranian storm on the horizon. The moderate Arab states must be real frustrated with him. The Saudis should ask him back for the gold chain and medallion. Now that Obama has no credibility in the ME and refuses to do what needs to be done I don't think he will get any backing for any thing. Everybody now knows for sure he is just full of sh**. In trying to force his socialist policies on Americans, he got the Tea Party. In refusing to level with the people in acknowledging the real and growing threat of Islamic terrorism in the US he is angering Americans. He has already forced Obamacare down their throats till they want to vomit it out. As he busies himself spending and plunging the country further into debt, people are loosing their jobs. He is truly living in his own little bubble, out of touch with reality and the American people. He should never attempt any ME policy until he grows up and comes down from cloud nine.
18. At least he's willing to admit and try again
R ,   Israel   (12.09.10)
Pres. Obama first approached the mid-east with naive arrogance. It took a while but it seems that he is realizing the complicity of this web. Maybe we will have peace, maybe we won't. But I have to appreciate that he has come to realize that his approach wasn't working and to back down and try something else.
19. Never mind,
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.09.10)
Any other tactic will inevitably lead to a Palestinian state at the end of the day . boker tov : )
20. Thanks to Wikileaks?
(12.09.10)
Now that one of the biggest scams in history has been revealed, and we've seen that countries like Saudi Arabia are more concerned with the Iranian threat than any "settlements" or even a Palestinian state, it's going to be more and more difficult to continue to spew the nonsense that "if only we could solve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict..."
21. number 16
Tom. L ,   deep south   (12.09.10)
We (Israel) wish the obstacle to peace was our arrogance. Yes, we (Israeli's) are very arrogant, but in the fields of science, bio-genetics, high tech and farming techniques. We are arrogant because we have been blessed with a brain to be able to create and solve. However, we are not arrogant when it comes to peace. We would love to have peace (its good for business) but we are also not stupid. We speak Arabic just as well, (if not better) then you do. We hear your call for peace in English and the call for my people’s murder in Arabic. G-D willing, when Islam learns that compromise, love and life is more important then the after-life and virgins then maybe, one day peace will be a reality.
22. Stupid new ideas better than giving away F-35s
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.09.10)
for free is it hillary? Another chance for obumma and clinton and mitchell to be the bad guys at the OK corral.
23. THE US STANDS LONG AWAY FROM REALITY !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.09.10)
THE REALITY IS THAT THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF PEACE. JUST LOOK BACK IN TIME TO ALL SO CALLED PEACE INITIATIVES, THEY HAVE ALL FAILED. THE PALESTINIANS ARE NOT INTERESSED IN PEACE, ONLY VICTORY. THE US IS NO NEUTRAL PARTNER WHO CAN MEDIATE AN PEACE AGREEMENT. THE US SHOULD THEREFORE TAKE THEIR SIDE OPENLY, THE ISRAELI ONE, ANS STOP THEIR MEANIBGLESS EFFORTS. LET YEHOWAH SETTLE THE MATTER. Arn.
24. NR 12.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.09.10)
THE BEST POLICY FOR AMERICA WOULD BE TO STAND ON THE ISRAELI SIDE OF THE MATTER IN ALL REGARDS. THE ARE TO FOOLISH FOR THIS THOUGH, Arn.
25. Obama going for permanent building stop until borders set
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.09.10)
Obama has learned that a temp. freeze will do little good for peace, so permanent stop to all building until borders set. Since bribing didn't work there is only force or to give up. Congress may give him some problems be he can go around by using UN and abstaining on UNSC vote.
26. #19 Mr. Falestenee
Harry ,   Jerusalem   (12.09.10)
I have to give you credit for the persistent "Brainwashing". Do those come in Pill or Liquid form. Exactly said "Tactic" That is what it all about Tactics. It is much simpler to move on back from where you came from. Jordan is already 75% family. Re-unite with your family. Instead of the Billions the world wasted on the PLO or Pa, they could have helped all you re-unite with family. Mr. Falestenee, it aint going to happen. Lay of the Pills. Salma, Jordan

olavi ,   espoo, finland   (12.09.10)
It is best for all to let Israeli and PA solve the problems without any mediation. The presence of ousiders, USA, EU etc only complicates the matter. Israel know best its needs for security.

29. US State Dept: Welcome to 3rd Grade Political Science!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.09.10)
Having observed how US Foreign Policy works for decades, it seems to me that, regarding Mid-East policy, the State Dept. has always led--producing consistency of foreign policy that outlives any given administration--and the current President takes credit. The State Dept. imbeciles have never been able to grasp that giving the Arabs a settlement freeze for talks ensures that Arab motivation is for the talks to go on forever so that the settlement freeze can go on forever--guaranteeing that the Arabs veto any progress that might conclude the talks... ending support for the settlement freeze. I've always been far from a Clinton supporter but it would appear that, perhaps, Hillary has been able to educate the State Dept. to their self-sabotaging, 2nd-grade thinking and bring these misojudaic Foggy Bottom bureaucrats into the 3rd grade. Until now, settlement freezes guaranteed that talks could not progress to a peaceful conclusion. Arabs had what they wanted going into the pretend talks and were resolute to maintain that status quo with no progress and no change. Reality is that rejecting a settlement freeze starts the clock ticking for the first time AGAINST the Arabs insistence on subverting progress towards peace. Now, their stalling would mean LOSING ground, producing a motivation for them to progress with all haste towards reaching a peaceful conclusion stipulating final borders (thereby stopping the expansion of settlements).
