1. Oh my G-d!
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (12.09.10)
This is the worst thing I've read. It's worse than the rabbi's letter. These rich people are trying to change the historical character of Jaffa, of what makes Jaffa so special! I can't believe it! Well, I hope they do take them to court because then maybe our government will intervene because it'll be another bullet against Israel in the PR war against us. It's disgraceful. It's like someone moving near Big Ben and complaining about the noise from the clock-tower. It's just unimaginable! Typical bourgeois .. no values or sense of history. Only property values.
2. been there done that...
eporue ,   europe   (12.10.10)
same in germany, with churches... its ok, when one grew up with it, but - nowadays - people are moving around, and so they happen to end up next to a church... or in hotels, close to them... its just wasnt accepted, to be waken up by bells, on sundays people felt bothered too... i dont remember, what exactly at what place was changed - it was too long ago - but i think churches dont ring bells anymore in the morning, no bells for the hours, and - even on sunday - its limited, not so long anymore... in short: they stopped pretty much ringing the bells...
3. unbelievable
Shoelah ,   PT   (12.10.10)
Really, noises? intolerable noises? Where are these poss people coming from?? Move back from where that was and leave the Jaffo citizens in peace. Because you are intolerable NOT THEM, why did you move there at all!? Gee, what a world....
4. Rolling my eyes...
Jeremy ,   Michigan USA   (12.10.10)
Did these people who bought their flats not go there and check them out before signing on the line? Did they have any idea where they were moving? I've not been to Jaffa very often, but even I know that the mosques and churches are there and there is a certain level of noise... get a life people, their are much bigger issues!!!!
5. Mosques is Jaffa, Jerusalem, Abu Ghosh, Nazareth etc
Bat Zion ,   Central Israel   (12.10.10)
nowadays use *really* loud loudspeakers at 4am to call the prayers. It is a novelty, not centuries-long tradition. Churches have recently joined this decibel war with loudspeakers, which, honestly, seems more like a discotheque war: who will make the more nuisance.
6. #1 the historical character of Jaffa
Eli   (12.10.10)
Truly Jewish environments are cities without any mosques or chrches. Who needs those in OUR JEWISH STATE? Time to get rid of them all over Eretz Yisrael, our holy Jewish country, and clean up the defilement they left. They can transfer them to Paris or Hollywood or other defiled cities.
7.  #1 Who needs any allusion to those followers
Eli   (12.10.10)
who spilled rivers of Jewish blood throughout the generations?
8. This is just the start
Dee ,   Tel Aviv   (12.10.10)
What about all the noise and disruption caused in protest of the bones?? There is no regard for the character and personality of Jaffa. They are trying to close down schools in Jaffa that promote tolerance and have been in existence since the mid 1800's. We know who controls the Ministry of Education.... it is only going to get worse.
9. #6 Eli
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.10.10)
A Jewish AND DEMOCRATIC state. Germany felt the same way about Jews. They used the same words as you. For shame, if this is the kind of 'Jew' you have become.
10. Hypocracy
Susan Kfar Saba   (12.10.10)
Wait a minute. This is just too ironic. We have everybody screaming because a few rabbis want to keep Arabs out of Jewish neighborhoods, but it is ok if Arabs protest Jews living in their neighborhoods. My grandmother lived across the street from 2 churches in NY. When I slept over the bells woke me up early every morning. I would know better than to move into a house near a church or a mosque.
11. I don't want to be bothered by any religion
Berk ,   Amsterdam Holland   (12.10.10)
Believe what you want to believe, but keep your noise indoor. Mosques are not allowed to make noise down here in Amsterdam. Churches only ring bells occasionally.
12. #9 No sir
Eli   (12.10.10)
The jewish state is DIFFERENT than the rest of the world, the non-jewish world. If democracy cannot coincide with the Jewish character of the state, democracy is out, out, out, out. This is Israel, not Brooklyn and not the U.S. It's the state for JEWS. All those who abide by JEWISH rules, rules of the TORAH, may live in this holy land.
13. Church bells are less offensive
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (12.10.10)
than the Muezzin
14. Even in Cairo
bennie ,   w. galil   (12.10.10)
Even in Cairo, laws have been passed to combat the loudspeaker blast of the muezzin . I has nothing to do with religion and very thing to do with another form of pollution; noise pollution/
15. Solomon, sitting in Brooklyn attacking Eli in Israel
m   (12.10.10)
This is what I call "chutzpa". Solomon I hope a big mosque will be build just next door to your home.
16. #12 Eli, #15 m
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.10.10)
#12 Eli- How many Israelis are fed up with 'living by the rules of the Torah', eg study without working, requiring Jews to prove they are Jewish and demanding they live an ultra-orthodox life...? #15 m- I am attacking those who do not believe in democracy; those who do not want others to have what Jews have been striving for, and suffering for, and dying for, for centuries if not millenia. In every country we were in we wanted what we are now unwilling to allow others to have. Myopia is setting in.
17. Self righteus Solomon
m   (12.10.10)
First live in Israel in particular a mixed city, then attack Eli. Somehow I have the feeling you weren't that democratically concerned when 10.000 Jews were thrown out of their homes and graves in Gush Katif, still unsettle until today. Jews worship without making noise, the Muslims and Christian have to "bring the news to the people" if by force, if by loudspeakers. The world 2 big religions are fighting for supremacy and Israel and the Jews are hit from all sides.Hopefully you will receive a portion of this medicine when more mosques are being build in New York quiet neighbourhoods.
18. Kick them out if they don't obey rules !!
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (12.10.10)
If it was a Jewish temple in a foreign country, the gentiles would close the temple. These gentiles think they can do anything in Israel. Israel let these clowns know whose boss or let them go back where THEY came from.
19. #17 m
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.10.10)
1. I lived in Jerusalem for four years, did Civil Guard Duty in the Old City before becoming a citizen and a shlav-betnik (totchanim). 2. Gush Katif was evacuated by the government. They thought it would help bring peace. They were wrong. 3. If you move next to a farm, don't complain about the smell. The article states that long time residents of the area are not complaining about the sound level: only the new folks on the block.
20. Christians - Find Ways To Live in Peace
Christy ,   Boston, US   (12.11.10)
As a Christian, I say to these Christians to find a way to live in harmony with your neighbors. Compromise. Sit down and talk. Don't protest in the streets!
21. #9..Solomon...Terrible comparison, you are going overboard
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.11.10)
Israel is a Jewish country, with Jewish majority. Their non Jewish neighbors live in Isreal and they complain constantly........ So why can't Jews complain too ?? Almost everyone else in the world has a complaint.
22. #19..Solomon's so-called "new folks" have rights too !
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.11.10)
Solomon, you are basically complaining against the complainers. These " new folks" have just as much rights as anyone including you.
23. #21, #22
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.11.10)
The comparison is apt: If you move next to a farm, don't complain about the smell and then expect the smell to dissipate. Everyone has a right to complain. But it is disengenuous at best to put yourself in proximity to what you know would be a problem for you, complain about it, and then expect it to change. Would you also force the mosques and churches in Jerusalem to be silent?
24. #23..Muslims settled on Jewish land, they should expect ....
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.12.10)
Solomon...... If these Muslims chose to live on Jewish land, they should expect the consequences when the rightful owners and their heirs return to this land. The Muslims should respect this, but they do not. Jews are not strangers or late comers in their own land of Israel.
25. #24
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.12.10)
If you move next to a farm, don't complain about the smell. The article states that LONG TIME [JEWISH] RESIDENTS OF THE AREA ARE NOT COMPLAINING about the sound level: only the new folks on the block. I realize that you are not listening as you are more concerned with Jewish rights alone. They are important. But if they trump every single question because of "Jewish rules" we become like our enemies. I know you want to 'get back' at those moslem and christian countries where Jews don't and did not count. But that is not Judaism. Judaism is how you treat fellow human beings. Judaism in Israel should be paramount, but not to the absolute negation of everything else. That is the same kind of tyranny that my parents, and possibly yours, suffered from.
26. #25..Neigborhoods & people change, that's not tyranny
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.13.10)
SOLOMON STATES: ......... 'If you move next to a farm, don't complain about the smell." Solomon ..... Using your own analogy, then anyone moving into any new neighborhood should be aware before-hand where they are moving in to and not to complain after the fact. So, when Arabs move into Jewish neighborhoods, they should understand that they are not moving into Mecca or Medina. It is not a valid arguement to differentiate between new and old Jewish inhabitants, because the world is constantly in flux and never stays the same. You are quite out of context and proportion to state that our parents faced this sort of " tyranny " ...... Your so-called " tyranny " of neighborhoods changing are really quite normal changes occuring in any culure or country.
27. #25..You say "Jewish rules" makes us like our enemies
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.13.10)
Solomon says......." because of "Jewish rules" we become like our enemies." That's only your opinion to which you are entitled to, but you go much too far out of any reasonable proportion. Solomon accuses me here .......... " I know you want to 'get back' at those moslem and christian countries where Jews don't and did not count " ...................... Perhaps Solomon, these might be your own feelings accompanied by guilt that you project onto others ? If you now pretend to read my mind, you are not being fair to me or to yourself or the Ynet readers.
28. #26, 27 Abraham
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.13.10)
1. Yes. Anyone moving to a new neighborhood should check it out beforehand. Most people I know, both in the US and [especially] in Israel do so. 2. The tyranny I cited is a response to Eli's comments, raising this to a religious/political issue. 3. You are correct: I should have stated "In my opinion". My apologies.
29. #28..to Solomon for a meaningful, spirited dialogue...
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.14.10)
Right here on Ynet. I am sure this is appreciated by many Ynet readers. Thank you.
