1. Never mind, the owner of the house is jewish too,
Narah Correa ,   BRASIL   (12.14.10)
as you can see in the picture.
2. Harriet, ask why UCC divests from Israel
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (12.14.10)
The entire United Church of Christ (UCC) movement divested from Israel in 2005. Obama's former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright (Trinity UCC of Chicago), was a prominent voice behind the church's decision to boycott Israel. In addition, UCC is partners with Sabeel, an extremely anti-Israel organization.
3. U.C.C. CHURCHES
Bob ,   Waimea   (12.14.10)
First, as a U.C.C. member, let me advise you that in general, individual congregations are not bound to specific policies of our denomination; we have sort of a typical free American approach of home rule. This may help clarify the comments of your previous good talk-backers. Second, both of your illustrations are more Catholic than protestant. Oh well, we Christians don't always get Jewish things straight either. Hope this is helpful, and to mix our warm ethnic greetings, Shaloha!
4. The Church
yoel reuben ,   Lod Israel   (12.14.10)
God is in every religin Bless all those who offer help to others -Jew Christian, Buddhist, or any other.
5. A house of god is a house house of G'd
Jose Farias ,   Sao Paulo - Brasil   (12.14.10)
So yoshua is being considered god? Very estrange. Why not to get the miniam in open area? Securely the open area is the house of the G'd without face.
6. Must be reform, no? Not that far from Christianity
m   (12.14.10)
7. it's all part of our judeo-christian heritage
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.14.10)
8. Synagogue in a church
roxie ,   Israel   (12.14.10)
Years ago when I was living in Great Neck NY the synagogue that my family belonged to also used a church building until it could afford to build its own temple. There is nothing strange about it, and I think it is actually a wonderful way to show solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters., it shows the strong bond between us.
9. A church as a synagogue
Jose Farias ,   Sao Paulo - Brasil   (12.14.10)
It still seems estrange to me to pray watching images.
10. There is no such thing as house of god.
leo ,   usa   (12.14.10)
Enough with this pretentiousness. Any church, mosque or synagogue is just house built by men and god could not care less about it.
11. Meet in a private home
Yaakov ,   USA   (12.14.10)
It is better for the Jews to meet in a private home, or a park, or anywhere else, so they are not surrounded with the appearances of avodah zarah
12. Images in a 'Church'
Ester ,   Canada   (12.14.10)
You are right...it is not according to the Bible, not according to the 'Old Testament and not according to the New testament. It is a 'Pagan ' influance in the so called 'christian church' which makes it just in name christian but really it is NOT. THEY bring shame on the NAME of G-D. BEFORE THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE BIBLE. It is like the enemies of Israel would call themselves jewish, and would infiltrate the army, or the Government of Israel This is the method of the grate enemy of G-D who is satan.
13.  Meet in a private home
Ester ,   Canada   (12.14.10)
Right. I am a Christian (very carful not to bring shame on this Name ) We meet in a privet home also, because the 'Equmenical' Movement does not follow the Scriptures Doctrine but working to unite all faiths, so they create humane teachings which are NOT according to the Bible.
14. #1, I Beg to Differ
Edwin ,   Canada   (12.14.10)
Jesus was clearly a Nazerine, following Nazerine tradition. Example: He did not wash his hands before meals, according to NT. The Nazerines were NOT proper Jews. They belonged to one of a few groups (as did Herod) that did not convert properly, and were therefore not considered truly Jewish.
15. #3 Have ANY of UCC's members protested the Israel boycott?
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (12.14.10)
Bob, my guess is no. Most of the 1.1 million UCC members have accepted the Israel boycott since 2005. In fact, when UCC was considering whether to end divestment in 2008, none of your members defended Israel, including Obama, your most prominent member, who was present at the synod meeting giving a speech when they voted to renew the boycott. Their silence then, led to UCC's Israel divestment now going into its 6th year. Your silence now, assures that UCC remains an anti-Israel church.
16. It's fine to rent a social hall in the kloister
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (12.14.10)
but to daven in their sanctuary - with all the idols in it - is a travesty. BTW - I think it was Maimonides who said that a Jew can pray in a mosque - for there are no idols / images inside - but cann't pray in the church
17. .This rubs against the grain.
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.14.10)
18. Tradition
Ester ,   Canada   (12.14.10)
Here is the point; The Lord Jesus wanted show that washing the hands would not clean the heart from sin. That what goes to the mouth goes out, and will not defile the man, BUT what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart and that shows the attitude and sinfulness of man The Lord Jesus put the outwardly ceremonies in spiritual perspective, for if the heart is not cleansed all the outwardly things what we do religiously worth nothing before G-D
19. #14 Edwin
David ,   America   (12.14.10)
Your ignorance is embarrassing and laughable.
20. Not unusual
david ,   Florida   (12.14.10)
What's so unusual about them holding services in a church building? My congregation does the same as it's a lot cheaper than owning a building and paying utilities and maintenance. The church congregation gives up their sunday services if a Holyday happened to fall on a sunday so we can attend services.
21. Better to worship in a mosque!
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (12.15.10)
22. Better to find someplace else.
NB ,   USA   (12.16.10)
There was a Reform group where I used to live that also used a church and in the end the Rabbi's daughter married a boy from that church.
23. A house of gods is not a house of G-d. But sit right down!?
Josh   (12.16.10)
Torah and G-d are clear on the issue. But if Eliyahu can use a pagan alter for our G-d after encouraging Baalam followers to attempt a pagan sacrifice, who would complain? If despite all this Eliyahu is still considered by Jewish leaders as an eternal being in heaven like a god and a stll touted as a prophet who deserves a wine offering (sacrifice?) in another dwelling sukkah of G-d’s rescence, why not? I mean with all the reasoning and thought by these unquestionable genius experts of interpretation, why not on the Christian alter? Its no Baalam alter, but will it do? Secondly since when did Israel house G-d? The very pagan concept of building a vessel to hold G-d is exactly what the golden calf was. G-d needs a house? He always used a mountain before. Just passed right over Moses' head. Of course the house owners in this case with the claimed documents they follow are from one they believe was a prophet who did miracles and swapped out the deal G-d made. Course, one look by any honest person at the books and it can be see prophecy and Jesus are never on the same page. But hey, at least there was a claimed miracle story. Never mind worrying about the miracles the false prophet is suppose to perform that no one would want to mistaken. With Rabbi additions, there isn't a prophecy claim nor even a false claim of fulfillment. They don’t need it. A whim and whalla. We just walk the line they draw. Anyone can make addition to the laws, just go to there schools long enough. Can a Rabbi make boiling milk of gedi’s mother equal cattle milk cheese of a cold cut chicken’s mother. So maybe they belong in the same house? Will G-d care if choose life all sit together and choose death all sit together? I think that is the intention of the tests of Torah anyway. Pool them together. Just missing the choose death crowd from brother Esau to make it a picnic. The pickled hearing might just multiply and then they can watch Jeshurun get fat and kick, as the prediction goes.
24. Josh , 23 . Are they also coming to YOUR church
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.17.10)
You know churches very well , as you are a yeshu adorer !
