Demonstrators that are not even breaking the law are hit and mistreated, so not surprising that so are stone throwers, even if they are minors. Not right, not good. The Israeli police are supposed to be all warm and fuzzy when dealing with Arab juvenile delinquents who hurl stones at innocent people using slings (which enhances the velocity with which these stones find their targets) and who throw boulders and cement blocks on the windshields of moving cars. These are murderous thugs, not innocent babes in the wood. If you commit an adult crime, be prepared to be treated like an adult. Stones can -- and have -- killed. Here is the situation: Whatever the police would do, someone will want it done differently. Too soft; then criticized as such. Too hard; then we are accused of brutality. What is the perfect balance, and how do you find it? The truth is it doesn't exist. The answer to this problem, and it won't solve all of it, is better community relations. Sure, naysayers exist on both sides, but maybe the best way to peace, or at least peaceful coexistence, is a grassroots effort at coexistence. This is where our leaders (Jew and Arab) need to intervene.
