many officers who were once enlisteds who were injured and won silver stars and other medals in wars, who left the line miltiary to serve in the Medical Department of the US Armed Forces. Indeed, there is a US Armed Forces Medical School to train mostly former enlisteds and line officers who choose to become doctors. They have a better understanding of the military's needs and make the sacrifices commensurate with that.
