26 Talkbacks for this article
1. Ridiculous
jew ,   Israel   (12.16.10)
There is no oversight here, clearly, and the sports world needs to clamp down on these disgusting incidents that dishonor the spirit of sportsmanship. Enough bs from the arab world. Competition isn't the battleground for politics.
2. Mishap?
Susuu ,   Muskoka, Ontario   (12.16.10)
That was no mishap. A mishap is an accident. This was an intentional act of disrespect for the members of the Israeli team by the glorified goat herders of Dubai.
3. how pathetic! how silly! how infantile!
dante ,   uk   (12.16.10)
4. Wherr is Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.16.10)
you should Invite him to swim with Eilat dolphins !!
5. It just makes them look backward, not Israel.
noa ,   israel   (12.16.10)
6. All you gotta do, guys, is win a few races..
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (12.16.10)
..then we'll see how they deal with that... Bats l'Chem. Good luck!!
7. WHO CARES -WE ARE THERE FOR PEACE
ALAN ASH ,   TEL AVIV   (12.16.10)
ANYBODY THAT SNUBS OR DOES UNSPORTSMAN LIKE CONDUCT ---YOU MUST FEEL BAD FOR THEM
8. World Swimming Championship
NYC Girl   (12.16.10)
Perhaps the time has come to stop holding these international competitions in racist Muslim countries that don't have the decency to accord the same respect to an Israeli team as it does to all the others. And Talkback #2 is exactly correct. This was definitely no mishap. It was a deliberate snub.
9. Israeli are Hypocrites
Chris ,   United States   (12.16.10)
How is this any different than the Palestinian Firefighters that couldn't get permits to their own celebration for fighting the Camel fire?
10. #4
observer   (12.16.10)
Salma, you can join him at Sharm el Sheikh - with the sharks
11. I agree with you #9.
noa ,   israel   (12.16.10)
But I think most Israelis agree with you. There were idiots in charge here. Most of us here don't like the direction Israel is heading in, unlike in Saudi Arabia, where I believe there are no Jews. It is different somehow. I actually thought we had come a long way; in the past Israelis were not allowed at all in Saudi Arabia.
12. respect
Ruth ,   Ramat Efal, Israel   (12.16.10)
9. Israeli are Hypocrites How is this any different than the Palestinian Firefighters that couldn't get permits to their own celebration for fighting the Camel fire? Chris , United States (12.16.10) Chris, there was a mix-up with the permits which was quickly corrected. I agree that it shouldn't have happened and the Palestinians Firefighters deserve to receive the thanks and respect of Israel for their important help. I know that they did attend several ceremonies where this happened. But this is NO equation with the World Swimming Federation condoning the change of our country's name. This just makes the powers to be in Dubai look even more stupid than they really are - behaving like my 3 year old granddaughter.
13. salma
alexa   (12.16.10)
Yes I agree with #10 because he is such a hero catching the mossad people in Dubai that he for sure will catch the sharks that are working for the mossad in Sharm el shiekh
14. I just don't understand
Cynic #2   (12.16.10)
how they obtained visas to Dubai and what passports they used to get in.
15. Israel swim team snubbed.
Elsie. ,   gush halav   (12.16.10)
Its wrong, to snubb a country in the sports field shows lack of repect, no matter what country you are from, show them Israel, that you are darn good, and when you go to receive your medals ,they will have to say, ISRAEL
16. What's the big deal - snub them right back...
Dan the Jafa ,   Auckland,Aotearoa   (12.16.10)
By winning!!!
17. don't the Arabs realize they make a fool of themselves
by this stupidity?!   (12.16.10)
Oh yes... call Israel ISR and that makes Israel disappear, right? How stupid can these people (Arabs ) be?
18. #9
(12.17.10)
that's because the incompetent plo and abbas didn't send a list of the palestinian firemen in time for israel to honor them. stupid!!!
19. Our Shame they should not have gone
WHERESOURPRIDE? ,   JERUSALEM ISRAEL   (12.17.10)
Even the swimmer stupidly said "well we know we are hated in the world " Those who agreed to send them under such situations should be removed from their positions at once and the swimmer given a little Jewish pride lecture.
20. Dubai competition
Judith ,   rishon, israel   (12.17.10)
Only one comment: Why did ISR bother to go there? A waste of effort, time and money.
21. Again, the racist/ fascist muslims show
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (12.17.10)
their ignorance and stupidity.
22. THE DUBAI FLOP ON IT'S FACE
JEWBIE ,   NYC USA   (12.17.10)
THIS IS DEAD ENDER LAND... BILLIONS IN INVESTMENTS FOR A FUTURE THAT HAS ALREADY COME AND GONE IN THIS DEAD END COUNTRY... SO MUCH MONEY POURED DOWN THE TOILET...IF ONLY THEY HAD LISTENED TO ISRAELI ENGINEERS THEY WOULD NOT BE WATCHING THEIR DRFEAMS ERODE BY AIR AND WATER, TIDES AND SO SHORT A TIME FOR IT ALL TO DISSOLVE....A PITY. NO LOSS TO ISRAELI WARRIORS AND ATHLETES....TOO BAD DUBAI,TOO BAD DUBAI,TOO BAD DUBAI,
23. Arabs chicken out of playing Israel in ice hockey
Jerry ,   Netanya   (12.17.10)
Apparently the UAE was supposed to go to South Africa for the ice hockey world champs - group 4 or something like that. However, since Israel finished last in their group 3 this year and were demoted, it would have meant the UAE playing Israel this coming spring. So what did the brave Arab hockey players from the UAE do? They chickened out and are refusing to go to South Africa so that they don't have to play Israel. If they had showed up for the tournament but forfeited their game against Israel (like what Iranian athletes do all the time), the international hockey federation doesnt tolerate that kind of shenanigans and would suspend the UAE from competition for 2 years. So the Arabs chickened out. Very un-hockey like behavior, but i guess standard for Arab national sports teams who are afraid to lose face by actually going against Israelis in case they lose to the Jews.
24. At least you were invited, but no, you want more and more
Sultan ,   Jeddah   (12.17.10)
when did you last invite us to your country? at least they got to see our wonderful creation that is Dubai.
25. #4-Not with Dolfins but with Mossad Sharks in Sharm el Shark
Alan ,   SA   (12.18.10)
26. I think this is more positive than not...
Rafi ,   US   (12.18.10)
and we need to focus on the positive - that an Israeli team was even allowed to formally visit an Arab state. Many of us remember when (pre-Camp David) such an event was inconceivable (no use of Suez Canal, no tourists from Israel, nothing!). As far as handling the current situation on the ground... #6 Mark is 100% correct: actions speak far louder than words - win the events big time!
