1. WTF!?! Saudi Peace Plan? u mean Surrender Plan
ben yaacov ,   herzliya il   (12.19.10)
Complete withdrawal to the old Green Line Right of Return as THE just solution. Where is the peace promised? This is a complete negation of UNSC 242. The Saudi plan rejects UNSC resolution 242, a resolution the Arabs have never accepted. The Saudi plan calls for a return to the Israel/Jordan armistice line not secure and defensible borders as 242 promises. Further Saudi plan requires a return of refugees as THE just solution again contrary to UNSC resolution 242. Even if Israel could somehow return to the old armistice line there is no way they can accept a huge wave of Arab Immigration. The Jewish community would meet the same fate as every other Jewish community in the Arab world of the last century. Death, oppression, persecution, and coerced or forced departure. The PA might allow some ultra religious zealots to stay since they will be inclined to accept Dhimmi status as mandated by the present draft Palestinian constitution.
2. 1000% Stupid article
(12.19.10)
Israel has always been on the brink of war and will always be. So there is no point in saying Israel should take peace negociations seriously in the end to conclude! Israel can negotiate true peace, but not negotiate surrender and destruction of the arab league. If arabs were really serious: they would negotiate borders, make trade proposals etc. Not say 'take it or face war'! Blaming our leaders is also 100% irresponsible. What would you do at their place, Mr Journalist? This is how it is and how it will be, until the arabs understand that Israel is a jewish state.
3. Quit the hand wringing and go out and kick some a$$
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (12.19.10)
4. Completely and totally CORRECT!
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (12.19.10)
"A complacent and haughty Israel not only refrained from seriously looking into the plethora of diplomatic options at its doorstep, it also failed to initiate its own peace plan." Those who deride this analysis need to come up with some solid and realistic alternatives rather than their typically blind dismissal. Come on Tahl, this is right up your street judging by your recent comments about national blindness and the 2 state solution
5. On the brink of war
Daniel Feingoldl ,   Manchester England   (12.19.10)
Sadly the analogy with the current situation is wholly erroneous. Syria remains in a military and political alliance with Iran. Assads so-called peace " overtures" are nothing more than a deliberate red herring with no basis in reality. Continued help for both Hizballah and Hamas prove that. The Palestinians in the form of Abbas and the PA simply cannot deliver and are stalling, using a Settlement Freeze as cover. The only mistake Israel has made Diplomatically is not to have a Settlement Freeze, to call Abbas's bluff. Finally, we are close to war but not because of lost Diplomatic signals. The desire by Iran to attack Israel as a catalyst creating a Global Shi'ite Caliphate, is the real problem. The West's failure to confront Iran militarily over it's Nuclear weapons programme has made this inevitable!

8. What Peace
Brett ,   Florida   (12.19.10)
Is everyone talking about? War is coming and I pray the He guards Israel! Doesn't make much difference who the PM is, Israel will be the bad mean guy. So the PM is the worst bad guy. Disproportionate amount of force used to be the old standard to accuse Israel. War is coming, maybe a world war. It is an evil time in this world. Pray up. The only peace the muslims want is without Israel. Something very wierd inside of them makes them think it is their duty to kill Jews. As for the writer of this piece, "WISE UP".
9. this is loony !
meir ,   TA   (12.19.10)
There were no peace initiatives from Syria or Egypt; there was a "war of attrition." With Russian backing, they were planning an offensive. Please provide sources (if you have any).
10. The relentless misuse of the word "PEACE"
Marcella   (12.19.10)
The leftist spin masters try to use every angle to push their agenda. Let's start out by discarding outright the word "PEACE" when what they actually mean is 'PARTITION". Once we get that straightened out, this is their spin: If you don't PARTITION the country AGAIN: - The much needed alliance with the US will be compromised. - The PA Arabs will radicalize. - The PA Arabs will declare statehood. - The PA Arabs will get mad. - The Syrians will get mad. - Hizbullah will get mad. - Egypt will get mad. - Jordan will get mad. - The rest of the Muslims will get mad. - There will be war. - The sky will fall. Actually, what Israelis should be profoundly concerned about is that IF THEY DO partition their country: - The state of Palestine will engage in constant harassment and terror to obtain all the other items on their wish list, including the right of return. There's no way to satisfy them - much less with precious Jewish land. - Key areas, such as BG airport will be targets for carnage. - Huge numbers of Jews will be made homeless and see their lives destroyed. - Israel will be reduced to Auschwitz borders - harder to defend. Maybe impossible to defend, at a time when neighbors are much better trained and equipped. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been reading The Eve of Destruction, The Untold Story of the Yom Kippur War. It was written in 2003 and I understand that much more information has surfaced since then. Still, it's quite chilling to get a glimpse of how clumsily the government and top brass handled the situation. Have things changed since then? Yes. For the worse. The IDF is being neutered. The government can't even stop African infiltrators. A single lighted match can cause havoc in the country. The common denominator of these three examples is a government afflicted by a case of terminal political correctness. Israel is not the warrior country it needs to be. It's being turned into a pusillanimous social worker making excuses for criminals, There has to be a G-d looking after Israel because its government surely isn't. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The answer to aggression or threats of aggression is not to keep shrinking the country!!!! Instead it is to make it stronger, more alert, and always prepared for anything. Deterrence. Not appeasement.
11. Agreed, #8
Cameron ,   USA   (12.19.10)
War is coming, and it will be a mother. Only a matter of "when". When it does, Israel needs to go for broke, and lay down some truly heavy lessons that will sit in the forefront of the Muslim psyche. With that feudal mindset of theirs, the only reality they truly respect & fear is muscle, and the sharp edge of a sword. Only the worst kind of damn fool trusts in Arab behavior & intentions. History speaks clearly enough on that matter.
12. Plain fearmongering
Howard K   (12.19.10)
Not that there is no a real threat of war, but shouldn't the reaction be to get ready, instead of trying to repeat the mistake of giving up land? Did giving up Sinai ever removed the threat of war? A truce is the most you got for it.
13. Arabs really want[ed] peace? What utter rubbish!
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.19.10)
Curious, we're looking at the same documents, the same history, and come to very different conclusions. The difference is that those on the left really want to believe that the Arabs have sought peace and it's all Israel's fault that it hasn't been achieved. What utter rubbish! What part of "take it or leave it" from the Saudis, or "no concessions" from the Palestinians does Misgav not understand? It was only weeks ago that Palestinian leaders made clear that the claimed "Right" of Return was non-negotiable, and without accepting it there would be no peace with Israel. Yes, the coming war with Israel's enemies will be unlike any in the past. But that's because the Arabs and their liberal "enablers" have encouraged the notion that Israel can be defeated, granting them political cover while they arm to the teeth for the coming battle.
14. Uri, a messanger of TRUTH
john ,   cardiff   (12.19.10)
The existing Israeli govt. will neither appreciate nor understand the views of the Ur. Any reader in UK or within Western societies will nearly agree with his thoughtful, rational and logical analysis.
15. This War has been postponed many times.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (12.19.10)
The fault for its outbreack is not Israels, but Irans, and to some extent the folishness of the US President and his follower the Israeli PM. This War is not a new War but the old one started in 1947, with several ceasfires since then. The cause for the War is the same as usual, the attemt to destroy Israel. The reasons for this War is said to be what it is, but is only a change in accusations as ideological tactic, as an approach and as an excuse. Sadly to se the Usefull Idiots of Israel following suit. SO THEREFORE - ISRAEL ! - STRIKE FIRST !. Oeao.
16. Phew
Joe S ,   Gibraltar   (12.19.10)
It's heartening to see that a majority of those commenting on this article have not been taken in by the false notion of "peace" by the Palestinians. Simple fact is that Israel will not get peace by pulling out of Judea and Samaria, dividing Jerusalem and lifting the blockade of Gaza. So they may as well keep things as they are. I can't think of any down side to keeping the status quo. Please don't say world opinion and the relationship with the US !
17. on the brink... (of derangement)
les ,   canada   (12.19.10)
there ain't enough arab lovers putting down, and blaming israel for everything, including the snow storms in europe, we need a retard like him to "confirm" how right they are. it got to be the arab leage paying him......
18. The Alarmist View of Leftism
Brod ,   USA   (12.19.10)
The forces of Leftism are full of imaginations that are alarmist over nothing. It is trying to propel Israel into a precipice of obvlivion. Why should Israel lose its Land of Israel-Judea and Samaria to please the dark forces? The fact is the appeasement of Leftism led to two recent wars in Israel. Israel's security and existence depend on her deterrence. When this deterrence is eroded by the forces of Leftism, it emboldens Israel's enemies to attack her. Fortunately, Israel's Right Wingers insure Israel's deterrence. Israel should reject the forces of Leftism and their weakness in the face of external challenges.
19. My neighbor has been learning from the Israeli-Arab conflict
Schreiber   (12.19.10)
Sam has been my neighbor for years. However he's been acting rather strangely lately. First there were the frowns, then he stopped greeting me altogether. Finally he started lobbing doggy-doo across our fence. This was getting serious. So I decided to have a talk with him to see if we could clear up any misunderstanding. There's no misunderstanding at all, he said. Things have never been clearer. I've been doing some research, you know? And what have you been studying, Sam, that made you so angry at me? I've been reading about the Middle East. About Israel's peace negotiations. About how you Jews are ready to give land for peace. And so for starters, this fence between your house and mine has to come down. Excuse me? I asked. Yeah, this fence has to come down. The fact is that I've spent enough time on your property to entitle me to at least part of it. I was shocked. What was he talking about? You remember, he said, that when you took off on that long trip to Europe I was the one who oversaw your property? Well, yeah... but that does not entitle you to it, I argued. I was beginning to get quite upset about the turn this conversation was taking. Those fruit trees you have ... I can still taste those apples, he said, with his gaze lost in the distance. Then he turned to me with a threatening look on his face. Unless you give me half your property, he growled, you'll get no peace from me. I'll continue to lob doggy-doo into your yard and won't say hi to you anymore. I suddenly realized what a difficult situation I was in, so I proposed we get a mediator. He says he wants his mother to mediate. I see no way out of this other than to accept his suggestion.

23. Israel backing Arabs into a corner--say what?
Paul Freedman ,   Falls Church, USA   (12.19.10)
This is just so much reverse-reality OTD nonsense. Israel pushing peace-loving Arabs into a corner? Say what? The Saudi Plan (written on alternate Tuesdays when they are not imploring the US to lay low the Iranians) calls for unilateral Israeli concessions plus mass right-of-return. Come to think about it, so the Palestinians. Syrian demands to get the Golan back are what they are, not harbingers of peace. If you are just going to make stuff up, make it new--Israel is provoking an attack from peace-loving Vulcans and forcing the pacifistic Borg to take up arms against Jerusalem!!

peace is the opposit of war . .so war is the opposit of peace .if arab do not want peace so they want war .. but what they prepare to this war .. this is the ?????????????????????
25. What garbage
John ,   Wellington NZ   (12.19.10)
Uri Misgav tries to convince us that when/if Arabs states attack Israel then that will somehow be justified because Israel didn't agree to Arab demands - this is called blame the victim. Uri is deluded but judging from the talkbacks to his article he is alone. Uri, get your head out of wherever you have it and get real

28. #5, Israel DID call the Abbas's bluff
Danny   (12.20.10)
They had a freeze for ten months and Abbas had to be dragged kicking and screaming. Why would another 90 days have made a difference?
