1. ooh naughty
tongue in cheek   (12.20.10)
Isn't Yair on Friday night tv? Never seen him myself, but, judging by promos, am always delighted to miss the friday night stuff.
2. "people who believe in god?"
nadav ,   tlv   (12.20.10)
or people who believe in freeloading, avoiding National Service, not working, and extorting the State's funds for their own well-being? that sounds more like it! Good for Bibi and the Likud for standing up to these black hatted thugs!
3. In this “Democratic” country the Right are NOT PERMITTED
Shalom   (12.20.10)
to open their mouth and voice their news on radio or TV. The Right media were all banned. What a Democracy!!! HA-HA-HA!!! So you only get to hear one-sided rubbish and distorted stuff from the Left anti-haredi and anti-religious. The more self-hating they are, the more distorted and anti-Semitic they are. If Israel is indeed run by a Likud Right government, they ought to get rid of the Left media once and for all. There is no reason the Left, destroyers of this county, have exclusive rights on the radio and other media in a DEMOCRACY!
4. STOP YISHAI BEFORE HE BURNS ANOTHER FOREST IN ISRAEL
stude ham   (12.20.10)
yishai has no further right to sit on government. he must be expelled. 41 grieving families are now the cost of this incompetent haredi in government.
5. Yair Lapid
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (12.20.10)
I had high hopes for Shinui as far as secular matters were concerned, but Tommy Lapid proved to be just another politician...all talk, no action. I don't think his son will be any different, so, sad to say, Yishai has nothing to worry about.
6. Based on some of his articles on here I fear him as well
zionist forever   (12.20.10)
The man is an anti religion leftist like his father. Lapid stands for religion bashing and if he stands for the Knesset the only thing that will get him on the party list is he is famous. I have read plenty of replies to his posts on here and even the anti religion posters have criticised his nonsense. The Knesset will be a better place without Yair Lapid.
7. Secular ger? #5
m   (12.20.10)
Why convert? What kind of conversion makes a secular ger? Tommy Lapid's party was built on anti religion. Strange people live today in Israel, maybe this is why there are so many problems, don't like Judaism and what it represents, why fight for this country, without religion it's just a piece of real estate, just like Miami, New York.... and in a bad neighborhood too.
8. yishai is afraid of loosing his money
yehuda cohen ,   jerusalem   (12.20.10)
shas is only in it for the money -they have abstained on every important vote and brought harm.
9.  "Likud returned to power because of Shas."
David ,   Los Angeles   (12.20.10)
That's exactly right. The Likud is Shas' poodle. And most Shas voters aren't even Haredi, unlike the party's leaders and its agenda. A major shift is coming, Yishai is correct. Likud voters are sick of the fact they effectively voted for a Haredi Shas government, and Shas voters are waking up too, and realizing they are very different from the party of ignorant mullahs they vote for. And unfortunately, unless the Likud changes its path quickly, the other beneficiary of their kow-towing to Shas will be Lieberman, who will siphon off a lot of Right-Wing non-religious Likud voters. Ugh.
10. In a "normal country haredim shouldn't be an issue at all!
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.20.10)
11. This IDF conversion bill is absurd
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (12.20.10)
B"H I propose the Electricity Board to be in charge of the conversions to Judaism in Israel [ironic]. At least they don't uproot Jews from their houses in the middle of the night and don't destroy synagogues in the Land of Israel, as the IDF does.
12. Lapid? He's Likuds best friend.
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.20.10)
He's going to take votes from Kadima. I never understand Yishai, ever.

Just about every single party left & right have always needed the religious block. Shas were in government under Olmert, Sharon, Barak, Peres thats how the system works. The only reason we had elections after Olmert left was because whilst Livni wanted to inherit the crown without an election she needed the religious block to make up the numbers. Their price was she put in writing that she will not divide Jerusalem and she refused and so we had an election which Livni thankfully lost. The problem is not Shas its the electoral system itself based on coalition politics so you get single interest parties who are there to join coalitions for a price. There are currently 12 parties with Knesset seats and about double that number stood at the election. Six of them are in the coalition and out of all these parties only 3 actually want to run the country the rest of them are freeloaders who are there to gain a disproportionate amount of power by joining a coalition. What we need is electoral reform so we have 3-4 large parties whose MKS are elected by a constituency not by how high they are on a party list. Unless the winning party has won with a very small number of seats then the winner takes all and no coalition government. It will end the corrupt system of pay off based politics whose policies never really change that much because its always the same people in the coalition and they always have the same price for their agreeing to join. First past the post means what you vote for is what you get and if the MKS are elected by a constituency it means if the public don't like an individual and their policies they can kick him out & its not the members of the party who decide if this individual is around for the next 20 years or if they are booted out after 1 election. Israels system of government is broken, it always has been and we can't pin the blame on Shas because they are just one of the crowd who want to be in government to promote their policies only.
14. Who's afraid of Ricky Martin?
Kerwood Derby ,   Frostbite Falls, MN   (12.20.10)
In his last missive the man that would be the king of hatred wrote of "Brotherly hate in Israel." No need for him to taint the land with his observations he need only do introspection within his own house to bask in the radiance which he like his father drew such strength and self-identity that is hate for living Jews in the land of their own name living as their forefathers. Notice that words of support will not be found by readers of his last op/ed. No comments in fact are available.
15. Yair Lapid
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (12.20.10)
To #7....who gave you the right to criticize other Jews and their opinions? I am not a convert, but if I were, I'd be just as much of a Jew as you are.
16. actually, #11,
gawain ,   israel   (12.20.10)
i like the idea - ironic or not - of the electricity board overseeing conversiuons. that way people would be prepared to be shocked byh their decisions, which, unfortunately is not the case today when the black-garbed antedeluvians are in charge and no one is surprised by their medieval approach. an even better idea would be to do it by e-mnail and charge a stiff fee for the "pleasure" and "privilege," with the money going to the anemic freeloaders shas supports
17. shas weak
alexi   (12.21.10)
Its not enough for yishai to say he protested lack of funding for fire service materiel. He had to yell, jump on tables and punch out barak and olmert to force them to get the planes and chemicals asap. And sharon was also asleep at the switch on this file which was urgent to deal with fires from missiles. Lapid's father who sat in Olmert's government was a fan of israel's most cowardly and failed PM olmert and was no great shakes as minister, not at all. His son yair gave a speech in which he tries to make elegant peace moves that fall in the garbage bin with the crud of fatah and hamas. And bravermen who yells for a state inquiry to pay lawyers, when a moron knows what to do-get fire planes, retardants and expand the number of firefighters, braverman is playing politics and is as useless and naiive as olmert, ramon and halutz. And I don't need mitzna and braverman to tell me that abbas is sincere. he is not. Fatah and hamas are filled with delusional lies, corruption and terror and it is genetic.Only a mental cripple would offer more concessions. In this way, the jews frankly are stupid. At some point, israel has to say no, no to barak, no to putin, no to everyone and the hell with everyone if the case demands it instead of kissing ass. You could give arabs the whole of israel and they would not sue for a state. They would rape and plunder, run to the UN with big mouth erekat and rabbo and then let egypt and jordan rule them.
18. Yishai what a hypocrite
Avi ,   Israel   (12.21.10)
" stop incitement" Sh-ass is a party based on hatred towards seculars. All Yishai and his bunch of crooks and thiefs care about is the Sh-ass bank account. The hypocracy of this vile man knows no limits.
19. to#2
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (12.21.10)
nadav; Your message is not only offensive, but deeply troubling ! If it wasn't signed by a supposedly Jewish person from Israel, I would be sure it was sent from nazi Germany...How dare You ! What kind of values were you raised on...What do you know about Jewish history and and the history of Israel, nadav ? If you would only be concerned about what You personally can do for your country, instead of leashing out on your fellow Jew, your people would respect you more and follow your example and your enemies would notice your strenghts. Not believing in G-d is your personal choice. But don't you dare to blame G-d feering people in any of your idiotisms...You need to learn a lot, before you open your mouth, little nobody.....

21. yisai refused fire trucks
Dawn ,   Raanana   (12.21.10)
yishai refused fire truck donations JUST because they came from christians. He should be sacked on this alone.

zionist forever   (12.21.10)
Virtually every party in existence is only in it for their own personal cause be it child benefits or push for the government being more anti religion the bulk of the parties exist for the sole purpose of joining coalitions for a price. There are currently 12 parties with Knesset seats & 6 of them are in the coalition. Out of those 12 parties only Likud, Labor & Kadima exist to run the country as a whole the rest of those parties put up people only to join coalitions and gain a disproportionate amount of power. The only way to end this is electoral reform to end coalition government system it should be winner takes all.
