1. Sudan is not an arab country
Raphael ,   Netanya   (12.21.10)
It is an arab colony whose muslim occupiers are squeezing the african population. We should learn from our arab neighbours' 62 years old know how: Instead of deporting sudanese infiltrators, we should gather them into camps, give them miltary training and send them in commandos to plant havoc and dislocate their colonial state.
2. Question
observer   (12.21.10)
Who is this great Arab nation that you mention several times? Muslims comprise Maghrabis, Berber, Tuareg, Egyptians, Sudanese - and that's only in Nth Africa. You get the idea. That's also why the great Arab nation has no compunction at slaughtering each other at the drop of a hat - just like the Christians do - because they are not one nation.
3. Mr. Andreus
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (12.21.10)
As much as I disagree with Mr. Andreus about the IDF, he deserves credit for what he is saying about Sudan. I am sure many in the Arab world will not take kindly to his finger pointing.
4. Shame? Long list!
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (12.21.10)
You want shameful? What day does not pass when a mosque isn't destroyed, by one of its' own? What day does not pass when the quran isn't destroyed, by a muslim terrorists bomb? What day passes without at least one Muslim, slaughtering scores of other Muslims? You want shameful? You have: Castigation and torture of woman Execution of children Organized political corruption and repression on a national scale This kind of shame should be an example of what Israel should NEVER be!
5. Why single out Sudan?
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (12.21.10)
Plenty of savage abuse of women by the Palestinians. How many Arab women in Israel have even day-to-day freedom to go wherever they please, alone or in company of their choosing? Granted, they aren't flogged in the square, but at best they lead repressive lives in service to their men - who still not infrequently murder them for casting blights on their honor, whether real or imagined. Yes, Sudan is a horror show, but cultural savagery towards females exists much closer to home.
6. Conflict.
Jules   (12.21.10)
There is no separate Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is a part of the conflict between the Western civilization (to which Israel belongs) and the Islamic world, which lives according to the 1400 years old rules.
7. Ashamed to be Arab, proud to be palestinian
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.21.10)
It was really tough to watch, they were criminals Not even human beings . Mr. Andreus , Islamic fundamentalists are dangerous because they are willing to use any means to achieve their purposes, religious fundamentalism of all variety, Taliban or Jewish, Muslim, Christian only feed each other , we should have the courage to put an end to them before It's too Late. I actually put my hand on my heart and think of our future particularly with regard to Hamas and its sisters, can we the Palestinians put an end to them before see ourselves flogging in the street, especially as we know well who stands behind them !
8. It is done...
CCJ ,   Paris   (12.21.10)
in the name of allah. I watched the video and just thought" oh well muslims at work"... If you follow a totalitarian doctrine you must accept the consequences.
9. Christians say this all the time
Alexander ,   NJ USA/Israel   (12.21.10)
"I will bless those that bless you; I will curse those that curse you" they take this quote from the Torah (old testament) and it really couldn't be more true. The more Arabs curse Jews the more cursed Arabs become themselves. This piece illustrates how cursed the Arabs have become when Hamas is considered the hero by the majority of Palestinians. I can't think of a worse curse than terrorist being your heroes can you? It's not just divine intervention by God it's also human nature. How can you as an Arab talk about these things while you would condemn Israel for doing what it does in self defense. What in your right mind makes you think that Israel just woke up one magical morning and decided hey lets see how bad we can make the Palestinians lives... the reality is very different everything that the Palestinians are enduring is a result of their behavior and how Israel HAS to respond. Palestinians don't leave Israel with options or choices when they are as savage as Hamas or as dubious as the PLO. Is it then any wonder that they don't care about this woman? Why should they care when they can't even care about Jews... How people treat Jews is how people treat other people and the sooner you Arabs realize this and start being better to us then in turn "I will bless those that bless you" and you will start seeing how Arabs will care about these things. Then again I'm just a disillusion hopeful Jew that thinks one day Arabs will actually practice what they preach.
10. Thanks for speaking out.
Tova M. ,   Rehovot, Israel   (12.21.10)
I'm glad that Mr. Andreus has spoken out. It was brave and the right thing to do. Change round the world has always begun with at least one (wo)man saying there is a better way. Kol Hakavod.
11. Are you that naive?
Carl   (12.21.10)
Do you honestly think that the Arabs care about the Palestinians. Why did no Arabs say a word while the proposed Palestinian state was occupied by Jordan and Egypt? How about the discrimination they face in Lebanon?
12. ashamed to be arab
debbie ,   israel   (12.21.10)
The answer to your question is really quite simple: The reason they condemn the "occupation" at every opportunity, is because they hate Israel, and are jealous of Israel. There tears are crocodile tears, they don't really give a rat's a _ _ about the Gazans or Palestinians. The reason they don't care about,or condemn lashing of women in Sudan, is because the Islam culture degrades and insults women, and 99% of muslem men, feel the same way. They don't give a d _ _ _ about women, Arab or otherwise, they look at them as property. They feel that these women got their just punishment. I hope that answered your question, and I hope Yahoo will print this. Not too many people have the guts to tell it like it is. They don't want to offend.
13. ashamed
debbie ,   israel   (12.21.10)
Linitchka, Your post is very misleading. You wrote "suppression of women in Israel". You needed to stress that the people doing the suppressing are the Arabs/Palestinians, not the Jewish Israelis. I think this is what you meant to write, but it wasn't clear.
14. Salma #'7
Non-Jew ,   England   (12.21.10)
Salma, I have to say, that was a very good post, and I do agree with your sentiments. I am concerned that, with Hamas dominant in Gaza, and Fatah currently weak and pretty corrupt in the WB, any hurry to declare independent statehood at this moment in time may backfire on the general Palestinian population, and particularly the women. If Palestinians deserve a state of their own, and the emancipation that goes with it, then its for sure that Palestinian women derserve it as much as Palestinian men. For Israeli arabs (such as yourself, I believe?), who have been brought up in relative freedom (i.e. without Sharia and fundamentalism), even if they currently have hopes of joining any future Palestinian nation, the resultant state may soon materialise as somewhere they do not want to live, after all. I feel it would be wiser for the Palestinian population to overcome their internal issues, and reach some semblance of internal peace and concencus prior to declaring statehood, because premature declaration could easily precipitate a civil war, and / or result in a country with little respect for the rights and freedoms of many of its citizens. Since the chance of creating such a state isunlikely to happen more than once, it would be better to ensure you get it right first time!
15. 7 - do you condemn hamas?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.21.10)
16. al jazeera ia always silent
real vision ,   usa   (12.21.10)
Like all so called moderate muslims, Al Jazeera is ALWAYS silent even on the most atrocious acts that muslims do. Al jazeera and moderate muslims silence is sickening
17. #14 do you know who stands behind Hamas?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.21.10)
doubt ! by the way, I'm Not "Israeli Arab" ,I'm a Palestinian from Akka live temporarily in Ramallah .
18. Apples & Oranges
Jerry ,   Spain   (12.21.10)
How can any responsible journalist ask such an idiotic question AND get it printed too? Then again, there is a similarity and perhaps this is what the autor is referring to: Women are physically lashed in one country and all Palestianians are economically, politically and militarily lashed by Israel.
19. Hamas
Non-Jew ,   England   (12.21.10)
I believe that Hamas are affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood, and are currently being sponsored and armed by Iran. Is this your belief too? My apologies for my mistake re. your whereabouts, I had obviously misconstrued some information in oner of your earlier posts.
20. Andreus, Sudan
Beate Zahn ,   Winnipeg, Canada   (12.21.10)
Mr. Andreus, please read the book "The Jew is not my Enemy" by Tarek Fatah, a Canadian writer. Actually, everybody should read it!
21. more accurate title: "ashamed to be muslim arab"
Rami of Nazaeth ,   Israel   (12.21.10)
it is the muslims created their societies where human rights are violated every day. Islam is used to justify it and it is the muslims who have to be asahmed.
22. The hypocrisy of that "great" Arab nation
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.21.10)
They condemn the "conquest" of Palestine, forgetting that Arab nation was created through conquest. They condemn the "occupation" of Gaza and the West Bank, but never said a word when those lands were occupied by Egypt and Jordan. Nor do they say a word against the occupation of Northern Cyprus by their Turkish "brothers". They insist on the rights of the Palestinian nation but reject the rights of the Kurdish nation. They raise a hue and cry if Israel damages a mosque, but remain silent if Muslims of one sect blow up a mosque of another sect. They insist on the "eternal" rights of the Palestinian refugees, but could care less about Jewish or black refugees resulting from Arab aggression. As to the "shame" the author feels over public lashing in Sudan, the authorities are only following the directives of the Quran - just like the Muslims are doing in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Apropos, authorities in Sudan expressed their intent to become *more* Islamic if the mostly non-Muslim south splits away. To Salma, who claims to be "proud" to be Palestinian, are you as proud of those a friend of mine calls the "bearded ones"?
23. Salma #7 is roud to be something that never existed
David ,   Haifa Israel   (12.21.10)
and never will. go home to jordan
24. "Human Rights" Organizations were destroyed
Logic ,   Israel   (12.21.10)
by anti-Israel fanatics and they don't care to help out Arabs who are really in trouble. It's like the story of the boy who cried wolf too many times. Probably millions live in quiet desperation and yet the media pummels Israel on housing in Jerusalem and self-defensive wars.
25. Salma #7: Palestinians elected Hamas; democratically.
Steve   (12.21.10)
Palestinians preferred Hamas over Fatah in the 2006 elections. Thus Hamas is the "legitimately" elected government of the Palestinian people. You say, "religious fundamentalism of all variety, Taliban or Jewish, Muslim, Christian only feed each other , we should have the courage to put an end to them before It's too Late." How often do we read that a Jewish fundamentalist knifed to death non-Jewish women hiking in Israel? Very often? How many Jewish or Christian suicide / homocide bombers to we read about? Did it occur to you on 9/11/2001 that there followers of Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell - Christian fundamentalists - hijacked and flew those planes into the World Trade Center towers? Do you remember the spontaneous eruptions of joy, celebrations, handing out candies and sweets throughout the PA-controlled areas after the September attacks, and in the Palestinian enclaves in Lebanon? Actually there were celebrations all over the Muslim world. Why?
26. Loud slogans by Jerry from Spain
Anna ,   Canada   (12.21.10)
it's you who is mixing apples and oranges, and not the author. Mr. Andreus is writing about the disgusting common in Arab-Muslim society practice and not about political problems in the ME. He wrote quiet opposite: instead of concentrating on blaming Israel in all the misfortunes Muslims have to get rid of the barbaric mentality and start treating the other people as people and not as the objects and possessions. Arabs in PA UN) and Gaza (Iran, other Islamofascist societies and organizations) receive monetary donations. Another question who is holding the money, if the monetary donations are spend on the building stable infrastructure, creation of the work places, social institutions or on the deadly weapons and corruption. Look into the mirror. Do you see a perfect human being? Or do you think you could do better? That was in the message of this article.
27. should they have fined her instead ?
eporue ,   europe   (12.21.10)
the women was punished for something (was it for wearing pants in public?), and her punishment was in compliance to the sudan law. so what you want ?
28. Women in Sudan
Issy Hass ,   Ra'anana-Israel   (12.21.10)
The anti-Israel human groups have only one eye to focus on Israel These people from the Sudan walk across Egypt(if survived)to be welcome in Israel
29. Where are the human rights?.
John ,   Accra,Ghana   (12.21.10)
I only see human rights groups attacking Israel.I want to see them attack the arab muslims.
30. Re: #25 Steve
GUH   (12.21.10)
Don't pretend that fundamentalism isn't prevalent in Israeli society as well. Settlers daily abuse, mistreat, vandalize Palestinians, occasionally beating, shooting, or intentionally driving over them. There is Baruch Goldstein, who now has a shrine for himself. And of course, hundreds of acts by the IDF that are all collective acts of extremism. I don't think you want to argue about Christian fundamentalism, especially if you are a Jew... As for the celebrations... Muslims mostly condemned the 9/11 attacks, but of course the vocal, extremist minority got all the publicity just as they always do. My point is that extremism is always wrong, but unfortunately they are a minority that are associated with the majority.
