1. How about Doctor is my proffession ?
Avi ,   Israel   (12.21.10)
How strange someone lists "Torah" as his proffession , how strange someone who is a doctor by proffession and saves lifes , pay taxes and contributes to society is considered less of a person than a chareedi man ? As we have heard lately the charideem are stating that they are studying when they are not as well as making false claims. Harideem who live abroad work for a living and pay taxes yet here in israel these parasites live off our backs
2. military service is not the solution for haredi
zionist forever   (12.21.10)
The issue that must be addressed most urgently is the seculars who are going out their way to dodge the draft and the military establishment admits its a big problem. What these yeshiva students are doing is evidence I think that the army is the wrong place to send them for national service. We should find other positions we can put them to make themselves useful. Why not have a reserve fire service and if there is a fire like int the Carmel Forrest then we can call up the yeshiva students. We can use them to make the thousands of public shelters up and down the country that have been neglected for decades by the municipalities fit for use. They could also assist Homefront in wartime by directing people to shelters or handing out gas masks. There are plenty of things we could get the yeshiva students & older haredi men doing which does not involve the military. If we have the bulk of them doing civilian national service then it will hopefully ease off the pressure at home on the ones wanting to join the military. Whilst we cant force them to join the military without amending the Tal Law which will meet plenty of opposition I see no reason why the government can't introduce legislation to force anybody who is legally exempt from the military such as haredi & arabs they will be obligated to do civilian service. We should not make military or civilian an option for everybody to choose. We need the bulk of the population to join the military because the standing army is not big enough but for those cases where people are legally exempt then they should be obligated to do civilian service. Now lets use the fresh memories of the fire as an excuse to justify a need for a civilian national service. I don't remember who but during the fire one senior rabbi said he had no problem with yeshiva students doing fire fighting. Now is the time to introduce legislation to build on that now. We should also ask groups like Chabad to promote the idea of national service being just as much a mitzvah as studying Torah. Chabad people work, they join the army and of course they are haredi and better able to relate to the other groups.
3. And tomorrow we read of the seculars
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (12.21.10)
I am against ANYONE who avoids army service. However, the number of secular individuals who avoid is quickly rising! They are the ones who created the fool the mental health officer ploy. When is YNET going to present a fair article that speaks of ALL who avoid service. BTW I won't hold my breath waiting for it.
4. Don't seculars say all religious are crazy anyway?
Rex ,   London, UK   (12.21.10)
All of my hiloni friends regularly accuse the haradim of being mental, absolutely crazy. When they finally admit it to a medical officer, this is also wrong?
5. Germany admits it and Israel will soon admit it.
Ronia ,   Eilat   (12.21.10)
Israel's government is supportive of a sector of the society that refuses to "assimilate". The haredi lead a separate existence within the state that is dependent on the taxpayers and government funding - to do what? Sit and gaze at the Torah all day and promote and maintain a sub-culture that is burden to the state and its working citizens and be rewarded for their hard labor by receiving a large share of the national wealth that they do not lift a finger to bring in. Instead of the state acting responsibly to institute policies that will force these dependents / leeches into the 21st century, the politicians support their lifestyle and keep them as a voting pool. That is neither good for the state nor the haredi themselves. After 2000 plus years, these Pharisees have not changed one bit. I don't blame the seculars for imitating the goodly haredi by trying to avoid military service too. What works for one should work for all. The government permits it and in doing so, sets a fine example for the whole country.
6. The Torah's the System in Israel. So Who's dodging the system

7. BALONEY! Yeshiva students are UNWANTED in the army
Shalom   (12.21.10)
and neither does the government want to enlist them lest they'll make them all baalei tshuva.
8. haredi haredi haredi
steven ,   memphis   (12.21.10)
These Haredi-bashing articles are getting really old. Why don't you denigrate our real enemies for a change instead of pampering them... the Arabs. BH" fro the Haredi!
9. Another Haredi Bashing and Hate mongering article
ray ,   Usa   (12.21.10)
10. army service
Boruch Hashem ,   London   (12.21.10)
Israel doesn't need an army, planes, ships and tanks, in fact all it needs is Torah loving people and all will be well. Only praying day and night will there be salvation.
11. But Jesus states specifically the message is not for peace?!
Josh   (12.22.10)
So what is the church doing right now? Are they telling the truth about their message? Mathew ten thirty four says the message is for division and a sword amoung Jesus' Jewish audience. Did he not say brother will turn brother over to death because of the message he gives. Did he say it to a Jewish audience that the memebers of their family would be their enemies because of his message? Is this peace? Could we be mistaken in saying the message is the cause of strife? Did the church miss something? Maybe that there was another being in Torah that was to come and do mircales and wonderful things and he was not the messiah? The False prophet. The one who gives the test to see if he can get anyone in the Jewish audience to turn their back on the law. You know a separaton of the living and the dead. Clearly the message of turning away from the law brings the curses of war. Did someone get Jews to choose death and choose a curse?
12. If Israelites said this instead of fearing giants?
Josh   (12.22.10)
If the Israelite provoked G-d with a claim they were too busy going over the real Torah that Moses gave in one aftrenoon, that they could not work nor fight for Israel and the land, what would He have done? Just imagine a bunch of kippah wearing machizah carrying Hebrew slaves in the dessert washing their hand three times with water they didn't have as the women sweated in wigs and saying no we won't fight as Our G-d wants because we are rebelling by doing what you want to such a consuming and anoying degree we will not work six days and have to read this prayer book over and over again and additions opinions that some men wrote. Just try to put it in context cause the Hebrews may have been the only ones since that actually did Torah for real. We know that a good part of Israel died for not fighting the war in fear G-d was not with them. For that all the remaining men died in the dessert and 40years of punishment of the people followed. Even Moses couldn't escape that punishment. What will our good people get for this? How many years will we get for this? How about for adding to Torah? What about rejecting returning Jews from the land? How about the refusal to love the converts but rather persecute and menace them? What about the protexia injustices? How many more great and wonderous choose death choices can we make? Are we missing any?Is this a game? Who pays? Bad bad bad is coming. The non nation non people are rallying strength. From the curse we are giving power automatically to a vile nation specifically as perscribe. G-d is not nor has He played around with Torah curses. We know this well. So where is the vile nation that Torah calls for in the curses? Does it exist? One who does not respect children or elders will be our ruler? A made up non-nation? A made up non-people not found anywhere in any history book? Do we see this curse as true? The Rabbis is not telling you what you need to know. You are in danger from yourself and anyone misleading you. Choose life. Read what needs no interpretation without interpretation. The book was written fro Hebrew slaves in the first person by a prophet Moses. (Said to have a speach impediment)
13. the military is playing along willingly
observer   (12.22.10)
Firstly who needs them in the army? The threat of mass enlistment of haredim should be enough to encourage any straight-thinking person to emigrate. Secondly, the old approach of the IDF was that haredim are mentally ill anyway, so why bother? If they are prepared to make the claim, the IDF will accept it. If anyone needs to be enlisted, it's the yuppies in TA - well educated, modern, secular - perfect canon fodder.
14. #12 - moshe speech impediment...
steven ,   memphis   (12.22.10)
...that is so christian. Moshe Rabbeinu came closer to G-d than any being ever and was so holy that we mortals could not comprehend his speech - maybe some of us shouldn't try to today and leave the Torah for the true believers.
15. 10 , boruch [ boruch "what" ? ]
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.24.10)
We have seen how prayers helped our parents and grandparents during the Shoa . It were NOT your "prayers" who created the Statre of Israel in 1948 , but the 6000 mostly seculars , if not anti religious , who gave their blood for this .
16. The ennemy dropped death from laughter
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.10)
at the sight of these unfit Haredi IDF soldiers. The state needs to launch a law, which obliges all the schools,Haredi schools included ,to give swimming lessons and physical exercises a few times a week,to their pupils.Than only, the project to enroll Haredim into the IDF,will have brain and feet.
17. 13 To the creative Observer, BRAVO

ORA ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.10)
The people who give the shoa as an excuse not to believe in G-D,did mostly not believe before the time of the shoa. They just do not want to change their way of life. That s all.
