1. The only one that matters is the US
Rachel ,   US   (12.21.10)
If Obama recognizes a Pal state, that would be a problem. But I really don't think he will. Not that he doesn't support one, but 2012 is coming and the Democrats need to pick themselves off the floor after the November election.
2. #1 Rachel is Right
Mike ,   Portand, USA   (12.21.10)
As an American Jew I can truly tell you that the U.S. agrees with you....It is the only one that matters. Unfortunately Latin Americans don't view their neighbors that way and actually have something called international friendships. Maybe if the U.S. and Israel could give up their exceptionalism (Chosen People, Manifest Destiny, White Man's Burden, etc. ) they could also have friends and be welcome in the family of nations. The whole world can't be wrong with only two "chosen" nations in the right. Viva Latin America!
3. #1 really?
ronen ,   israel   (12.21.10)
and what happens when in a few months time you will remain the only country in the world to not have recognised the palis claim to the 67 lands? they are solving this dispute by using their popularity. and our lack of it. in the same way they can make the UN support a resolution to relocate israel to deep space. or you for that matter. america too has lost its standing by helping us. that is if one believes you had any rep to begin with. i personaly think we both are hated for a long time. the euros even though they are stupid, feel that deep down and prefer to keep their distance from us. but once we get out of here (on the eagles wings) they will be left alone in this new world they helped create.
4. And Latin America matters, why?
John   (12.21.10)
This is nothing to be surprised by. South America, for the most part, has always been partial to the Palestinians. The main question is, so what? Ok, latin american countries recognize a Palestinian state within specific borders. Do you guys honestly think that they will sway the U.S. and Western Europe? China won't jump on board and neither will India. A Palestinian state is inevitable, Israelis know this more than anyone. Pushing for a state now is a very bad thing for the Palestinians, especially when Hamas has considerable power. It is one thing to support a Palestinian state. It is another to push for a state, only to watch it sink into Hamas' hands. This would be very, very had for the region. Latin American countries are clearly doing this for their own political reasons, which have little to do with the Palestinians themselves. They are not playing this smartly.
5. So much for wanting peace
Matt ,   Australia   (12.22.10)
Reading this article and it's respondents it is undeniable that the majority of Israelis living both in Israel and in the US don't want peace. Read it back, removal all bias (if that is possible) and what do you get? Clearly peace is not possible without Israel ceasing it's encroachment further and further into Palestine, ceasing further settlements that divide existing Palestinian communities and recognising their right to exist. Yet reading this article and the responses it is clear that you will happily twist the truth that it is the Palestinians that fear being wiped off the face of the earth. You claim they deny your right to exist, yet these a mere words but check out your destructive deeds, bulldozing whole communities and leaving the Palestinians homeless and with less and less land to call home.
6. Well Israel does nothing
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (12.22.10)
Netanyahu and the Israeli government allows other countries to run over her, and those countries have nothing to fear. Either threaten those countries with a break in relations and also force them to move their embassies to Jerusalem or annex areas C and B but do something don't act like a wimp. If they have nothing to fear this will occur
7. 1 - this is hillarious, lol
Mark   (12.22.10)
Aren’t you along with Sarah B. brodie and the rest of the loonies here kept telling us the US needs to mind its own business?..lol..
8. Not entirely true #1
Leon ,   Ottawa, Canada   (12.22.10)
While it is true that the US can protect Israel in the security council through its veto, it cannot do this in the area of global trade. If Israel, Canada and the US ignore the will of the world; there could be global trade repercussions. Although the BDS movement is still small, it is building and this could spread across the world. Israel is an export based economy.
9. let's deport the PA leaders to SA
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (12.22.10)
Since South America is so Palestinian loving let's send Abbas & Co there on a permanent vacances.
10. Halacha now requires that all Muslims be expelled .
sk ,   USA   (12.22.10)
Actually, this was required long ago, when the Muslims of Eretz Israel made claims that the Land was theirs, but effort for an official that is actually bring countries over demands their expulsion.
11. This is what you get
Daniel ,   Canada   (12.22.10)
This is what Israel gets for pretending to seek peace all these years on one hand, while expanding illegal settlements and trying to ethnically-cleanse E. Jerusalem with the other. The World just doesn't believe you Israelis anymore when you pretend you want peace--and rightfully so. It is time to move on towards creating the State of Palestine--with or without the consent of Israel. Just like Israel was created by the UN in 1948, Palestine will be created the same way in 2011.
12. Been there. Done that. It amounts to nothing.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.22.10)
This is not the first time "Palestinians" have declared fictional statehood. It always amounted to nothing and always will. Empty declarations don't make a state. However, it is way past time for Israel to fill in the vacuum. Judea and Samaria are ours by every historic, legal and moral right. Israel should immediately make all Jewish communities, in Judea and Samaria, subject to Israeli law. Followed quickly by annexation of Judea and Samaria.
13. the vatican is behind this...
bruno ,   portugal   (12.22.10)
Is latin america recognising the P. state ? Easy guess, the Vatican is behind this campaign. Listen, Oh Israel, don't trust any of those popes...
14. Annex the settlement blocs and the Jordan Valley
Danny   (12.22.10)
Call Gaza and the rest Palestine.
15. #8, actually it is shrinking
Danny   (12.22.10)
the BDS movement has hardly any effect on any Israeli trade anywhere
16. #5, so if Israel unilaterally declared that land to Israel
Danny   (12.22.10)
you'd be happy with that?
17. LA countries
Brad ,   USA   (12.22.10)
Don't get too excited over the support of Latin American third world toilets. They'll roll over for anyone who offers them something for nothing, and their only exports are crime, disease, and kids with no parents. Kind of like Muslim countries.
18. Arafat
Brad ,   USA   (12.22.10)
Did you notice that picture of the terrorist Arafat? That smile has been gone from his face since he left this world. It's too hot for him to smile.
19. How long will it take Israel
OnTheOtherSide ,   USA   (12.22.10)
to stop spending their money in Argentina and Chile? Or stop developing Mexico? Better yet no more foreign workers from these countries should be allowed into Israel, send the existing workers back. let their government support them!
20. Rachel, the only "One" that matter is the US?
Steve   (12.22.10)
The US is the only "One" that matters Rachel?
21. Look at all these phony 'Christian' nations
Steve   (12.22.10)
For all my Central and South American "Christian" pseudo 'friends', I will quote from your own Christian bible; from the words of your Jewish savior: "Many will say to Me on that day, 'lord, lord, did we not (do all these wonderful things in your name, such as curse your people, Israel)..... "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS......'
22. Isn't Disneyland also recognised...?
yoss ,   Canada   (12.22.10)
...just asking... Mickey Mouse is recognised by the entire world, but is he anything beyong a fictional character? No. So, go ahead and recognise this Mickey Mouse state...it will be the laughingstock of the world...
23. if Israel really want peace
mike ,   USA   (12.22.10)
if Israel is welling to make peace with Palestinians , it should not matter who and how many counties recognize Palestine state !!! the fact is Israel does not have any intention for peace , and will never accept Palestine state, that the Palestinians waited for over 60 years . i think it is time for Palestinians to change there direction !! you know what i mean
24. BDS Groups Talkbackers
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (12.22.10)
It is quite obvious that some countries including the United States is funding BDS groups some media organizations and some talkbackers in a plan to influence Israeli foreign policy it is high time that It is high time that Israel exposes this.
25. put the blame squarely on the incompetent leadership
Mark C the original   (12.22.10)
The blame goes to all past and present leaders of Israel. They neglected the outside world while the Arabs spent money and man-hours explaining, mostly deceitful to the world. The sad part is, the Israeli elite is clueless, and they don’t have a clue what to do. But they know very well how to take free trips all over including Beverly Hills, CA, speak in their broken English to the Jewish and Israeli population, but very little talking to the masses that form public opinion. I put the blame squarely on the so-called incompetent leadership of Israel.
26. To start, don't ship Israeli medicines to these dingbats.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.22.10)
27. 'a soft intifada'?
Chas, ,   L.A.   (12.22.10)
So following a legitimate procedure to attain there ends, the Palestinians are engaging in another form of intifada. A typical Israeli distortion of reality.
28. To # Leon
Rachel ,   US   (12.22.10)
Europe is on the verge of default. The French might vote for UN sanctions, but not the Germans. They've committed enough sanctions against the Jews. Israel might not have the White House, but they have the Congress. As difficult as this is, I don't think all is lost.
29. why Bachelet?
david ,   jerusalem   (12.22.10)
why put a picture of Michelle Bachelet if she's no longer the chilean president? didn't u all see Sebastian Pinera (a.k.a. piranha) on TV with the miners?
30. Israel's failed diplomacy and policy
(12.22.10)
Danny Ayalon is probably using his genius(!) chair diplomacy by making Mexican and Chilean diplomats to sit in lower chairs. This is unfortunately the only way Israeli leadership could feel 'higher' as they have done nothing that Israel can be proud of. How far Israelis will bury their heads in the sand? Israel is becoming a fully Middle Eastern states with its vendetta seeking, primitive, vandal behaviour. Saudi Arabia and Iran are at Israel's league politically and diplomatically.
