31. International Recognition of a Palestinian State
Alan Smith ,   UK   (12.22.10)
What business is it of the Israelis if the Palestinians unilaterally declare an independent state, especially when the state of Israel was created in the same fashion. Maybe their main concern should not be International recognition of a Palestinian state, but recognition of International Law - all Israeli settlements in occupied territory, whether in the Golan, E.Jerusalem or the West Bank, violate article 49 of the fourth Geneva Convention, to which Israel is a signatory.
32. Matt # 5
UK   (12.22.10)
I don't think it's that they don't want peace or a state for the "Palestinians". I think their concern is more for state/"peace" to be declared without any negotations. If something is done unilaterally, it will have less chance of being stable and lasting.
33. Strike Back!
Monterey ,   Monterey US   (12.22.10)
Israel needs to revoke its recognition of Latin American countries! That will show them!! Here's hoping the Maya and Inca come back....
34. Recognition
Count Dracula ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.22.10)
If you think the recognition is a problem wait until one of these countries opens their embassy in the West Bank. What then will Israel do? A big problem for sure. It is only a matter of time.
35. Good For the Pals'
J   (12.22.10)
this is probably the most effective way for the plaestinians to deal with the lack of progress on the dusty negotiation tables. it's ok if the US ('the only important country') doesn't join the rest of the herd...more to show that it (the US) is actually a part of the problem and not the solution.
36. It's like a train coming, and no one can stop it : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.22.10)
Yesterday, Latin America. Tomorrow Europe. The day after tomorrow the U.S.. did I forget thing?! I don't think so. Be Ready , PALESTINE IS COMING.
37. Partition Imminent
Muayyad ,   Palestine   (12.22.10)
Get ready for Palestine's freedom and liberation. Rendez-vous 2011. Things will never be the same again, and the settlers shall be expelled.
38. yes, "palestine is coming"
eporue ,   europe   (12.22.10)
and nobody can stop it... arafat is gone, and with him a lot of bad stuff. bibi makes israel looking as a big dumb, aggressive fool in this, which gives nothing about international law. ...nothing about other countries opinions or objections. this will have repercussions on the country and people, lasting very long. never you will want this. but you must open your eyes immediately and look at the things - AS THEY ARE. not as you wish they should be...
39. New US Congress may derail plan for Pal state
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (12.22.10)
In a few days, the new US Congress, led by a majority of Republicans, will convene for the first time. Expect increased support for Israel - and our other allies.
40. Fayyad is an extremist
Mar   (12.22.10)
Has anyone read Fayyad's plan entitled "Ending the Occupation, Establishing the State: Program of the Thirteenth Government (August 2009)"? He calls not for just an Arab east Jerusalem, but the implied takeover of Jewish Jerusalem, the release of thousands of murderers from Israeli jails, and the inundation and dissolution of Israel by millions of descendants of Arab refugees.
41. Too late.
johanna ,   germany   (12.22.10)
"China won't jump on board and neither will India." Too late. They've recognized Palestine back in the 80s.
42. #Bunnie
johanna ,   germany   (12.22.10)
Back in 2005 Israel's signed an FTA with the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay). The agreement was quickly ratified in all countries but Brazil. To convince Brazil to do that, Shmon Peres traveled there in 2009 with a comission of 40 businessmen. And Brazilian Congress only ratified it in 2010, when its president came to visit Palestine. That tells you who wants to trade with whom. Israel wants to trade with South America. But South America doesn't really care about that.
43. Pal state won't happen w/o Obama
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (12.22.10)
1. Obama wants to go down in history as "THE ONE" who finally brought peace to the Middle East and the Palestinian state. 2. Obama wants to be reelected in 2012, but his administration's admitted failure in the peace negotiations have led to these South American declarations (Pals are impatient and the SA countries are taking this opportunity to flex their muscles and show they are global leaders independent of the US). Obama will block any Palestinian unilateral action. If he is unsuccessful, and especially if it leads to a ME war, Obama is toast.
