1. A bit too anal-retentive?

I do believe that video games are a medium of story-telling, as is a book or movie. To say that the Holocaust should be off-limits to video games is a reservation of history; a censoring of the portrayal of an event in history because it's a sore topic. When you mix sore topics and old stodgy folks who campaign against violence in video games, you get these people at the ADL. Foxman, you've got better things to do...

It's Just a Game !
3. Play "Holocaust " ?
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (12.26.10)
Ariel Holocaust "game" ? "history" ?? "story telling" ??? "sore" topic ???? You choice of words reveals a lot about immaturity or a lack of reflection.... Yes, conclusions that I draw are indeed speculative : your few ill chosen words may not describe you at all. Perhaps if you visited Auschwitz, Poland (today) or if you came to Israel to see the myriad of names at Yad v 'Shem ,, you too would become " stodgy " but perhaps such an education ... is a waste of your time ! moshe
4. extremely poor taste
(12.26.10)
say what you will about rigid censorship and stifling of the "historical learning" occurring in the game... it is in terribly poor taste and bad judgment. There are some endeavors that, while claiming to be art, lower the nobility of man for having been made. I don't even think the ADL had to jump in on this particular cause, it is so apparently inappropriate.

Dont expect you to understand what it is like to loose all or part of your family by horific means when all you babble about is loosing your home in Akko. Even if it chokes you, learn to keep your big mouth shut & quit putting your big feet in painful memories that dont affect you. Someone needs to muzzle you.

If you had lost a relative in the Holocaust, to be sure, you would not believe in what you write here.

Tasteless, stupid post, as usual from someone without any feelings & understanding.
8. I think this done in very poor taste
ghostq   (12.27.10)
it isn't a crime but poor taste it is definitely, I think beter keep it in the DOOM game, and not trying to reanact the original game. gamer design need to think outside the box and NOT copy other people nertive or reality that never existed.
9. it think youre the one who is stupid

whatever happened to free speech? Oh, I see, that only applies when attacking the sensibilities of Muslims XD
11. Actually
Ariel ,   USA   (12.28.10)
I did lose TWO relatives in the Holocaust. I still don't find this game objectionable. If the object were to be the Nazis and slaughter Jews, then I would object, but I don't see anything wrong with it being the other way around. Everyone hates Nazis, I think that can be universally agreed upon. Why is a video game that portrays the rebellion of Jews so distasteful? If anything, I find it to be a fitting tribute to those who died. #9, don't call me stupid.
12. to #11 so you won't mind someone else

# 4 explains why.
14. I still don't see how it's inappropriate.
Ariel ,   USA   (12.29.10)
There are plenty of historical video games out there, about gruesome topics such as wars and death. About making money, what of all the Holocaust survivors who published books recounting their stories? I wonder, did any of you detractors find the movie Inglorious Basterds to be objectionable? In its own way, it's a fantasy retelling of the Jewish survival. Remember that when you call it distasteful. #4 did say that s/he found it in poor taste, but not why. Therefore, I'm not exactly seeing any argument here on your side.

About my lack of maturity, well, attacking someone who disagrees with you by saying that they are immature is, well, not very mature. You immediately assume that you are older and beyond my years, which may not be the case. I have two dead relatives from the Holocaust, my entire family fled Eastern Europe (both sides), I visited both Yad Vashem and the Holocaust Museum in Los Angeles, taken several courses on the subject, studied Nazi history and have had plenty of time to be mature and think about the grave nature of the Holocaust. I would like to hear your opinion, Moshe, on why a video game from the Jewish perspective is less of a tribute than any other, because what I perceive is your immediately dismissing such a tribute as distasteful.

Ariel, I would not say you are immature, but a video game is a game that is played for entertainment & fun. I dont think you can compare a serious book, a serious movie, a serious documentary about the Holocaust to a video game about the Holocaust. I did see the movie "Inglorious Bastards", a serious movie & I had no objection to it as it was based on the truth. I hope you can understand my opinion here.
