31. Speaking as a Jewish Woman...
elizabeth ,   dallas, texas   (12.24.10)
I believe that Dr. Abuelaish should be compensated for this tragic loss. Dr. Abuelaish has been a true friend of Israel, and this tragedy should be as painful for all of Israel as for himself. What kind of stupid reasoning went into denying him compensation? I do agree that he should sue Hamas for putting him, his family, and all of Gaza in harm's way.
32. And Sderot Casualties Should Sue Hamas as Well
Dallas ,   Canada   (12.24.10)
Time for us to use the atrophied brains which God gave us. The perpetrators of this whole mess are Hamas and Hamas only. Any way you twist the truth, drill down to the cause, and Hamas' name and their genocidal charter always is the answer. Any other answer can only mean that the use of terror rockets against civilian populations are OK. In other words, response to Hitler's V1 and V2 rockets were illegal as well.
33. Mark, #12
m   (12.24.10)
Have you ever heard of the doctors involved in the terror attempt in England 2 or 3 years ago? ALL of them where doctors. The plan was to put explosives in one of THEIR baby's bottle, to explode over a big city. Have also heard of George Habash, from Black September? Probably not, he was big in terror attacks in the 70s and 80s, a PEDIATRICIAN. You are naive
34. Ynet do something to stop
Yossef   (12.24.10)
these outrageous talkbacks from all these bastards not respecting the pain of this father. He was a doctor working in Israel saving lives and also jewish lives. Bombing his house was a tragic mistake as it has been repeated few times above. They TBakers are just plain provocateurs, coming here to spread confusion and their venom. It is a disgrace for Ynet to let these morons express their hatred on these columns.
35. Look, this was a horrible error...
Rafi ,   US   (12.24.10)
... and Israel should absolutely try to compensate this decent man. Any human being with the least bit of compassion has to shed tears with this poor gentleman. If you are saying as a Jew you cannot do this - then the majority of us should cease being Jewish according to your definition. You are also reading a different Torah than Hillel who - as you know -said all Jewish teaching could be summarized as DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU... Regarding #3 Ed: with your burning hatred, how are you really any different than Hamas? As a Jew I am embarassed by your cruel statements!
36. He should be able to sue - Israelis are getting justice
Anonymous ,   TX, USA   (12.24.10)
Hamas and its Leaders in particular who are ordering attacks against Israeli villages, and killing innocent civilians they are being sued by Isrealis, and Israelis are getting their day in court. How do you think Israel is sentencing hoards of Hamas Leaders and putting them in jail. And there are the lucky ones, others Hamas Leaders are simply getting assasinated by the IDF. Hamas leaders also internationally shunned and are considered terrorist (with exception of few countries). Basically Israelis who were hurt by Hamas are alredy suing Hamas, and are getting justice (incarceration or assasination). Therefore the Dr. should be able to do the same, and get his justice...although here he is only asking for recognition and compensation - He is not asking for the incarceration or the blood of the shooters.
37. I feel very sad for this man ...
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (12.24.10)
as well as for all of the parents who lost children in Gaza. This is another tragedy caused by HAMAS and its dogs who don't care about their own people, only about killing Jews. It is very sad for Gaza and the world that there is a HAMAS, whose atrocities cause, not only the death and destruction of their immediate acts, but also suffering like this man's afterward.
38. Good
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (12.24.10)
I hope he gets a giant sized settlement. He deserves it.
39. Again Law is being mistaken for justice, or vice versa..
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.24.10)
This mans pain has nothing to do with the legal aspects of warfare. I am not a lawyer, but I can imagine the kind of flood that similar claims would wreck on Israel, should this guy be compensated in any official way. Again Israel would've been held to a unique set of rules, as it is being done daily by the hypocrite "world" . So as the US say :" we regret any loss of civilian life" Can it happen again? Abbu Adolf Mazen& hammas have the answer.....
40. Compensate him, compensate them all - its LAWFARE
russEL ,   TLV   (12.24.10)
41. It is a war and agressor's side must not get compensated
leo ,   usa   (12.24.10)
and Israeli government is doing right thing otherwise compensation will amount to admission of guilt. However, this doctor wanted to take care of the matter without publicity and from humanitarian point of view Israel could've dressed it up into some sort of help package and still compensate quietly. Alternatively, Israelis may start private citizens supported fund to correct bureaucratic mistake of Israeli government.
42. Yossef @ 34, relax. Each provocatur is being promptly
leo ,   usa   (12.24.10)
confronted. No need for censorship. The more disgusted people get with some comments the more good it will do.
43. #28 Lydia, you are a Bogan.
Dannyn ,   Sydney   (12.24.10)
Lydia your such a bogan. "Ohhh the occupation, the occupation". While you were busy whining about the occupation, you must have forgotten those THOUSANDS of rockets being fired from Gaza into Israel-proper. Your such a bogan hypocrite - what the hell would you do If terrorists from Indonesia started firing Katyushas from their house into your beloved Brisbane? Maybe some will fall on William Street, maybe on the Brisbane Municipality building. Then what would you do? What the hell would you expect our Australian Army to do? FOR YEARS they were firing rockets into Israel. IMAGINE IF INDONESIA FIRED KATYUSHAS INTO BRISBANE FOR YEARS. Bloody Bogan.
44. Israel phoned him personally to warn him..
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.24.10)
Israel phoned him and said "they are firing rockets from your building - get out before we hit it", and he left his daughters there. We sent pamphlets. We warned the people of Gaza This one got personal calls.. One one hand I feel for him, on the other - note it;s DAUGHTERS. They are expendable in Hamas society. I also note that he has left Gaza for greener pastures. Has he worked out that Hamas will make it happen again and he cant stop it?
45. Isn't Arabia Arab land?
Andrew Brehm   (12.24.10)
It's amazing how much land outside Arabia is "Arab land". I thought the entire ME was English land.
46. unfortunately, compensation would be bad precedent
lawyer ,   usa   (12.24.10)
even if israel wanted to do so wartime compensation is bad precedent.
47. #46 There is a solution
Yossef   (12.24.10)
give him the israeli citizenship (he works already in Israel and for Israel) and then compensate him as an israeli.
48. #12 Mark
Madeleine ,   Israel   (12.24.10)
Well, we know that ambulances have been used to carry terrorists and weapons, so why is it beyond the bounds of possibility thatt a doctor would hide weapons in his house? And how about the abysmal record of your so-called "great" U.S. of A in Afghanistan? How many innocents have they shot up and never said more than "Oh sorry, mistake?" they've shot-up wedding parties, hospitals just to mention a few. Anyway, unless you've actually lived here, you know nothing of the situation on the ground.
49. Israel is at fault...
Basil ,   Morgantown, USA   (12.24.10)
The man's daughters did not fire on Israeli troops. They were unarmed in their house. I believe a tank shell was fired by the IDF. So, of course, Israel is at fault. People are trying to blame Hamas. Hamas did not fire on them. Israel did.
50. what weapons
pharaoh ,   toronto   (12.25.10)
for gods sake wat weapons??? I know the man's daughters and they would never do such a thing!! that guy served israel for two decades, if he was bad then why didnt he do any thing in that time...he waited 20 years ?? clever?!?!?!? this guy is a doctor !!! he is not a kid or a loser to harm civilians and inncoents whoever they are...
51. Shame On Sfrad!
brenda ,   new york, ny   (01.05.11)
it is to Israel's credit that they did not flatten Gaza completely in order to route out the source of over 8000 missiles being lobbed daily into Israel! Let the lawyer advise his client to sue Hamas -the source of unrelenting violence and misery for the palestinians
