31. so long as you're dodging drafts...
Avi ,   Tel Aviv   (12.24.10)
Seriously, you guys need jobs.. the only thing you've been able to do with your time is to utilize it for whining like 3-year-old children. Why is your community so obsessed with being unhappy? Furthermore.... you have no right to suggest the nature of Jerusalem as a Jewish city so long as you're not doing anything to defend it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a battalion of haredim that captured Jerusalem either... Stop riding the coat tails of the sacrifice of others already. You will have a say only when you start contributing and stop leeching.
32. Boycott Haredim
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (12.24.10)
33. Christmas
Tony ,   Bethlehem   (12.24.10)
It is good Bethlehem is not under the Israeli State.......... at least we can see Christmas Lights there with the Jewish Haredim.....
34. The Hareidim are overreacting?
HH ,   Jerusalem   (12.24.10)
I'll remember that the next time someone starts howling about some hareidi takeover of some neighborhood, school building, or some hareidi doesn't stand at attention when the sirens sound, or (horrors!) some yeshiva students are allocated $280 a month. Of course you will say that those are LEGITIMATE objections to hareidi behavior (or misbehavior). It's a rather subjective distinction between legitimate and bogus objections. Don't confuse fact with opinion.
35. For #9, Noga
Tsippora ,   Northern Israel   (12.24.10)
You go girl! Could not have said it better myself. The Haredim hold themselves above everyone else as religiously, culturally and morally superior, yet survive on handouts from the government and Israelis (as they sell trinkets and hold their tzedakah cans out to us on the streets). They wont integrate their children with non-religious children for fear of corrupting them, yet they teach them to curse, spit and throw stones at enyone who doesnt agree with them (just as their parents do). I have witnessed all of this ugly behavior on many occasions-in Jerusalem, as well as on the West Bank.
36. GET A LIFE!
Ex-Orthodox Jew ,   Israel   (12.24.10)
37. Just a thought
Raptor   (12.24.10)
Wasn't this Christmas thing invented by this guy called JC or invented to celebrate his life. Wasn't this guy born here. Didn't he live here. Didn't he tread the soil of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth,or am I mistaken. Just a thought.
38. No. 25 Dorothy Friend
NYC Girl   (12.24.10)
Actually, I'm very well aware of what's going on in Israel and I wholeheartedly agree that the ultra-Orthodox exert influence well beyond their numbers to the detriment of the majority of Israelis. And, frankly, if it were up to me, I would probably round them up and ship them to Brooklyn and then separate the State from anything having to do with religion. However, my point in rebuttal to "Christian in NYC" was a result of his comparison of Israel to Iran and his obvious enmity.
39. Responsibility and Privilege
Ethan Schwartz   (12.24.10)
It is our responsibility and privilege to rule over United Jerusalem. Jerusalem is holy to 3 monotheistic religions. It is our responsibility to make all visitors and residents feel welcome. Jews, Muslims and Christians should enjoy the festivals of the others without feeling threatened.
40. right, because your kind of worship
david ,   jerusalem   (12.24.10)
is the real thing. isn't it? since we can't call this 'racism', what should we call it? and the ceo apologizing is the most disgusting part of all this bullshit
41. What cowards!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (12.24.10)
Afraid of a few lightsand trees. News flash! This is your country. You can afford to be magnanimous to the "other". No skin off your teeth!
42. mamilla
sas ,   israel   (12.24.10)

43. @30, hey grandma
david ,   jerusalem   (12.24.10)
is that just because you say so? who are you, the chief rabbi of the arts?
44. Taking delight in other people's pleasure
David   (12.24.10)
Such a pity that these very unrepresentative Jews cannot take delight in the pleasure which Christians around the world get from their festival. My non-Jewish work colleagues love this time of year a part of which is lights, trees, presents and carols. I am happy for them although I do not celebrate this festival and never have.
45. Lights in the mall
ike Miller ,   Owensboro USA   (12.24.10)
I have never been to Israel but would love to go. I know several people that have gone and they are all good Christian people that honor the Jewish faith I have never heard them say anything bad about it. You don't have many friends in this world so you need to hold on to to the few you have. I send money to Israel to help fed the poor and bring others to your home land. Please don't let a few plastic lights cause you not to love others as they love you.
46. Let the take the long way around
Michael ,   New York, NY, USA   (12.25.10)
and leave one small part of the city for the majority of its citizens to enjoy.
47. I long for the day when
Sagi   (12.25.10)
the Haredim will place a total boycott on ISRAEL and leave us all alone in peace to enjoy life as we please and not as they dictate.
48. #9 Noga
Shuki ,   Cambridge, MA   (12.25.10)
Right on. The state needs to cut them loose and show them that in a natural system, their medieval lifestyle is unsustainable and uneconomical. Ultra-Orthodoxy is the ultimate embarrassment to the Jewish people. If they get to define Israel's values, how much better are we than Islamic fundamentalists?
49. How I wish they will boycott it! would be nice not to
see them around   (12.25.10)
50. #1: Hadassah - never in your life you'll be able to create
such "trash"   (12.25.10)

51. Idiots. Jerusalem is sacred to Christians
Vardina   (12.25.10)
as well and there are Christian citizens in Israel whose holidays we have to respect just as we expect them to respect ours.
52. "Christmas" lights on Mamilla
Joseph Charlap ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.10)
The situation with the Haredi community is getting out of hand. They are becoming more intrusive and nobody is willing to take a stand against them . If they dont like the way we live let them buy an island and live there the way they want and leave us alone. Enough is enough. I respect the way they choose to live but it must be mutual.
53. "The Haredi" ? Names please!
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.10)
54. Mamilla
Anonymous ,   Raanana, Inselberg   (12.25.10)
Yes it would be great not to see them around!
55. Nice, ynet! Way to spread brotherly hate... again
Elisheva   (12.25.10)
Another anti-chareidi article from ynet. good going, guys! way to spread brotherly hate.. I for one am boycotting this site. Articles like this make me sick.
56. To #55
Tzvikah ,   Galil   (12.26.10)
Brotherly hate? Get real. This is good advertising for the Hareidi. Of what use is a boycott when no one knows you are having it? No one would notice that the Hareidi are boycotting Kanyon Mamilla since they don't shop there anyway. NOW we can all know because YNet was nice enough to have this article.
57. to 56-
(12.26.10)
Advertising for Hareidim???? Are you serious??? Advertising for WHAT? You think they want this kind of hate-filled publicity???
58. Tinsel town
Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.10)
Right on Stan. Living here and seeing what gets sold and put up in Succah's is laughable. Almost Avodah Zorah.
59. 55 and 17 are the only sane people here!
anonymous ,   tel aviv   (12.26.10)
60. Torah teaches to shun pagan practices. Xmas is full paganism
