The Torah reminds us many times that as we were strangers in Egypt we should treat strangers with kindness. The far right and supposedly religious people seem to have forgotten how we are supposed to treat strangers. I almost never respond to articles in Ynet but I felt inclined to respond to this one. I am a 27 year old Jewish photographer in New York City. I have proudly led 5 Birthright trips to Israel over the last 4 years and after college I spent an year volunteering in schools throughout Israel teaching english. I have never been ashamed of how Israel has protected itself over the years from terrorists and people out to hurt Israel...but I am ashamed now. How can we as a people, who only 70 years ago were being attacked for only being Jewish, stomach Jews attacking Muslims for only being Muslim? Those Muslims who are out to hurt us deserve to be arrested and thrown in prison. But thats not who we are talking about here. We are talking about Muslim men and women who are just trying to live their lives, like their Jewish neighbors. Sarah B. you want to sign up for an Academy of hate? You are no better than those who persecuted us 70 years ago in Germany. I hope this is a phase. You have no idea what's like to live with Arabs 24/7. Some Jews have to contend with harassment and even danger to their lives because of their Arab neighbors. Perhaps being on the side of "tolerance" makes you feel righteous and that's always a good feeling. But try to see it from the Jewish perspective for a moment. Just a regular family, mom, dad, daughters wanting to live as Jews in a Jewish country. The true reality is not what you imagine at all or what you saw during your visits. Israel is a very complex society. You may live there for years and still not know what goes on in another neighborhood. Jews do not discriminate unless they are threatened. I am really confused. Can someone elaborate the the term 'racism'? Is this term exclusive to Jewish people or it can be used for other human beings also.
