1. Israel offered aid within minutes of Turkey earthquakes
William ,   Israel   (12.25.10)
Perhaps next time Israel should wait days to make a decision, as you accuse them of doing. Idiot!
2. however, one can't overlook the intent
Michael   (12.25.10)
and the violent ,deviant behavior that these civilians showed and the unconditional Turkish support of such deviant and violent behavior . This event should not be accepted by any Morally guided nation which Israel is. The Turkish Governement should spend more introspection on how their Moral compass has appeared to have had a malfunction. It is also interesting to note that the turkish Governemnt willfully and knowlingly knew the israeli gaza position. Despite that made no attempt to prevent weapons on to the ship or prevent the ship from leaving.
3. Turkey spews Buffalo Chips [EOM]
Tess ,   USA   (12.25.10)
4. we're still waiting for turkey's apology
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (12.25.10)
you first, turkey, since you started the aggression.
5. Slapstick at its best
Atheist Turk ,   Germany   (12.25.10)
Reminds me of: he loves me, he doesn´t love me. Enemy. No Enemy. What has happened to these guys? You comedians from Anatolia.
6. Israeli apology is possible, but it must come only
leo ,   usa   (12.25.10)
after Turkish apology and only if Turkish apology is made to Israel's satisfaction.
7. Ahmet Davutoglu
JUDAH THE LION   (12.25.10)
wants to improve relationship with Israel, because he knows very well that TURKEY needs Israel. No way to improve relationship with this Turkish Government, until they apologise sincerely to the STATE OF ISRAEL and the ISRAELI NATION.
8. you will apologize
selim ,   england   (12.25.10)
You will apologize or you will carry on improving your relations with tiny Balkan states. isn`t it coincidence that after 600 years you come to Balkans again because of Turks well first time it was Turks who saved you from Spanish genocide and gave you residence in Balkan states mainly in and around Bulgaria under Ottoman protection. now it is you going and asking Balkan states their help in return of financial aid after Turks refusal. in first Spanish was killing you and Turks helped on second you killed Turks

alexa ,   Israel   (12.25.10)
First of all as it is avident that Turkey is going to be Iran best friend and Hizbulla and Hamas best friend so it' might be impossible for us to appologize even if we want to and WE DON"T WANT TO APPOLOGIZE Don't start with the muslim so nice treatment of jews in arab countries it wasn't so good there weer lots of massacres. The treatment of turkey to jews in Palestine was harsh and cruel . Turky didn't volunteer to give us aid they did only after they were asked by the German. It is shamefull for the Turks to say that we wouldn't give you aid if needed not if you look at all the help we gave you after the earth quake . It just shows that it is better for us not to be friend with Turky but with the greek whom thier land you took in Cyprus
10. Selim from England - Omer Seyfettin - DIYET
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (12.25.10)
You might have rad Omer Seyfettin's famous story called DIYET. Each time you mention that Ottoman's saved Jews from Spanish inquisition I remember that story. I also remember how in late 1980 ies and early 1990 ies I worked hard in NY along with the Jewish lobby and money provided by the Turkish Jews such as the Kamhis and Garihs to influence the US congress and to lift the US embargo to Turkey established after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Israel was Turkey's KARA GUN DOSTU (dark days friend) at that time but AKP did not reciprocate when Israel needed their dark days' friendship 3 years ago. maybe it is time to cut an arm and give Turkey back its DIYET as Omer Seyfettin wrote in his story.
11. The Radical Turkish Government must apologise
Barry ,   Tokyo   (12.25.10)
Israel will never apologise for defending themselves from Turkish government sanctioned aggression. Not sure what they are thinking (much like Brazil's anti-American Lula) but they are not stupid enough to realize that should the current situation were to fester, the true losers would be the Turks. Their only supporters will be the Arabs, Iranians, and a not too savory assortment of crackpot despots. In short, Turkey's image would be severly downgraded.
12. @ Selim
IZL   (12.25.10)
Well since you insist on bringing that history, I must be gladly obliged to add onto what you have said. Turks also started to vastly improve their technology with the influx of Jews from spain. I guess the military innovations we gave Turkey were not appreciated??? I mean afterall, Turks were an empire for ages, in no small part due to the technology they got. Any idea why Jews were moved to the Balkans? To improve economy. I guess according to you, it was a one sided relationship. Grow up.
13. #8 Selim
Hal ,   Usa   (12.25.10)
You obviously have a polluted historical view that assuages your Turkish heart, but you are wrong and Turkey is reaping the whirlwind in it's tilt to Iran. What is bugging the Turks is that they have talked their way out on a limb and after the huge loss of Israeli tourist spending has put many in that part of your economy in dire straits. Too bad too sad. You cannot have it both ways. The political trend in your govt is to become the leaders of a Muslim/Turkish/Arab/Iranian Axis. Good luck with that Tower of Babel. :-))
14. #10 David Israel
Hal ,   Usa   (12.25.10)
These types always tend to bite the hand that pets and sustains them. How biblical is that? You are consistently interesting and informative to read and thank you for that.
15. To: No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.25.10)
How long do you think it would take Israel to vaporize Turkey? Apologize? Apologize? Sure. Just as soon as Turkey apologizes for attempting to annihilate the Armenian people, for its invasion of Cyprus and for its murderous attacks against peaceful civilian Kurds. Please do not try Israel's patience. The Turks are a has-been or a never-was. Take your pick. Either way, as I have attempted to make you understand, Turkey is no match for Israel. You are well advised not to even try.
16. Turkey climbed a tall tree, and now looks for a way down.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (12.25.10)
After Turkey realized they'd never get this apology from us, they are looking to move on and restore the relationship with Israel, while saving their face. Good luck with that.
17. Patching up ties
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (12.25.10)
This is getting boring. Why can't Netanyahu tell the Turks that Israel is not interested in patching up ties with the Turks, but with the Cypriots, Armenians and Kurds? In any case the Turks have their new friends, the Syrians.
18. Help for the helpless?
steve from raleigh   (12.26.10)
What's the point? Soon Turkey will be a sharia state and that's a self correcting problem in the long run. When Turkey wants to return to the present century let me know.
19. Israel is always the first one to help in emergencies all ov
James Dermot ,   Haifa Israel   (12.26.10)
Israel is usually the first one to offer help to whoever needs it,around the world, to anyone that is in distress, earthquakes famine, you name it.That the Turkish Foreign Minister ignored this, just goes to show us who we are dealing with here.
20. We should apologize to......
E. ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.10)
..our soldiers for letting them to board the ship armed with paintball guns.
21. Israel Israeli # 7
Barry ,   Tokyo   (12.26.10)
You forgot to mention the Greeks. Greece needs Israeli tourists like never before. Screw the Turks. Let them make love to Hamas!
22. Turkey = a lot of gobble de gook
John ,   Wellington NZ   (12.26.10)
Lets talk about an Israeli apology after Turkey apologises to more than a million Armenians and Cypriots and pays them and their relatives a few billion dollars of compensation. Turkey is guilty of the evil it falsely accuses Israel of
23. #8 Selim baba
Eran ,   Singapore   (12.26.10)
The Turkish FM is right that there is a problem with the ruling coalition in Israel that has difficulties in making political decision. I dont think that any government in Israel will apologize to Turkey regarding the marmara incident. It is a fact that the IHH activists were involved in hostile actions against the State of Israel and were supported by the Turkish govenment. The FM wont go to receive Mavi Marmara because he is aware of how IHH is regarded in the west and he knows that soon IHH will be declared as a terrorist organization, like PKK. He would rather not be associated with a terror organization. On the other hand, I dont think that Turkey really wants a reconcilliation with Israel, the hate of AKP is too intense. only lies and hate.
24. To No 8 Dont over react
Eran ,   Singapore   (12.26.10)
Don't over react, this is just food for thought. You know Israel's reputation as a hard hitter, right? It's part of Israel's deterrent in the area which is not exactly friendly to its existence, right? So when you put your face in front of Israel's face and say "I dare you to whack me", then there is more than 90% probability that you are going to get whacked. What was the whole purpose of provoking this confrontation? You say "I don't care who started it but the minute there are Turkish lives involved I have an issue". O.k. that position is understandable but why only look at the partial picture with a selective intent? Who send these innocent protesters to harm's way? Who gave them the false impression of a protective shield? Did the people boarding the flotilla understood their lives were in danger? I bet you not.
25. To: David Israel
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.26.10)
David, I appreciate your pain. Turkey, as I am sure you realize, is a lost cause, on its way to full pariah state status along with its good friends, Iran and Syria. Things are what they are. You cannot save people from themselves and you cannot fault yourself for things that are beyond your control, no matter how badly they turn out. It would appear -- and not for the first time in history -- that Turkey is fated to discover just how badly a turn it has taken. Best wishes to you and those you hold close for a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.
26. Commentary
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.26.10)
I am quite friendly with a Jewish person of Turkish heritage -- his family came from Smyrna. I have watched him struggle with a sense of loyalty to Turkey and his Turkish roots and with 21st century reality. He tell us all the time that this Turkey is not the Turkey that his parents speak of fondly, even though they have left. This is not the Turkey that provided a safe haven for Jews while most of my family went up the chimneys in assorted European concentration camps. This is not the Turkey that stared down the Arab states and extended ties and a hand of friendship to a newly-reborn State of Israel. It is certainly not the Turkey that strove to toss off the chains of primitivism and become a modern state. I do not know what the current Turkey represents. I do not know what it is trying to achieve. What I do know is that it has chosen a road that will take them straight back to the seventh century. Today's Turkey will lose its modern, forward-looking and highly-educated citizens. More and more are applying for emigration to the West with each passing day. Today's Turkey has lost the support of Western Europe, the Americas and a whole host of modern, forward-looking nations in the Far East. Today's Turkey greatest loss is its intelligentsia, who are scrambling to leave. Everything that Kemal Ataturk did to bring Turkey into the modern era is gradually -- well, not so gradually -- being eroded. The educated and sophisticated classes are leaving Turkey in droves. Turkey has chosen its path. That is its absolute right as a sovereign state. The way back to modernity will be much, much harder to achieve. If at all. My two cents, respectfully submitted.
27. of course it would take days....
Alexander ,   NJ USA/Israel   (12.26.10)
because Ahmet Davutoglu would refuse to accept it until he got an apology... what a moron.
28. israeli officials wer caught up in quacke

29. Israel? Contradictory?
manicdrummer ,   Madison, USA   (12.26.10)
Turkey should be listening to the contradictory statements made by Hamas officials lately.
30. Turkey; the medieval era has gone a long time ago
josef   (12.26.10)
Isn't time that you and your govt join the 21st century? Iran, hamas and other islamic entities will only accelerate your downfall. We and the world know that you don't give a damn regarding the Armenians, we are also aware that you stole Cyprus land by force, and that you wish that the Kurds would go away forever. Israel is no pushover. Time is not on your side concerning your apology. When the point (time) of no return is reached, it will be good bye. PS/ Friendship can't overshadow deaths ? You should have thought about it before sending your thugs.
