1. other germans
(12.27.10)
AMEN. Thanks for this interesting story.i think too bad that this 'microcosim' of an experience does not for the most part transfer to the general population at large according to what I have been told.
2. And thats why we feel so embarrassed by the antisemitic
Other german ,   EU   (12.27.10)
attidude of muslims immigrated into our country..
3. Germans
Ken ,   Australia   (12.27.10)
I am sure that there are other germans, and that they are disgusted by the past , there nazi identity and there hatred of the jewish people. The germans have a crazy mentality, its quite outrageous, nearly 70 years after the fact, that some of them are seeing what they did, they have been in a frozen mind state, a denial that is like an arctic freeze, It seems like the thoreing has begun, who knows why they hate jews and were willing paticipants in a nation who became an entire nation of jew haters on earth, sealed off an entire continent and captured human beings like animals and sent them to a living hell, un-imaginable to mankind. Ultimately becomeing a frenzy of death, whilst the ovens worked 24hour a day for one purpose, to exterminate the jewish people and eradicate them. What kind of people are they really, still today, this holocaust memorial only stands as a reminder to most germans that the jews are not comeing back, this is also made by the company that supplied the gas. It was no coincedence either. No matter the changes in people , the heierachy of germanics are still really the ones in controll of deuchland. No matter the amounts of money we receive, reperations are for an eternity for this crime. It will always be a case of jews VS germans and there crazy attitude crazy way of thinking that is a mindwashing against jews that is in-bred from centuries ago, why do they get up in the morning and decide that they hate another people , what is really the truth behind this german mystery of hatred for jewish people , when never have we done anything to them. A crazy phenomena, a crazy people and they still need to be taught a lesson for this insanity , german madness is a reality today, still they spread nazism around the world and untill it stops they must pay us in capital for each and every crime.
4. Today's Germans really are different from their grandparents
Josh S ,   USA   (12.27.10)
Germany today has a small minority of bigots - just like it did during the 1930s. The difference is that unlike their grandparents, Germans today are willing to stand up against their racist neighbors. In the 1930s, the silent majority stayed silent and let the bigots take over the country.
5. These "other Germans" are the majority, I believe.
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (12.27.10)
From everything I've seen from this country so far, I really don't have too many bad things to say about Germans. True, some antisemitic scum exist there as in most other European countries, however the Germans have done the most to internalize the lessons of the Holocaust, more than any other nation. They don't tolerate Holocaust denial and Neo-Nazis, they erect monuments for their murdered Jews, they recognize their past monstrosities, they teach their children about the Holocaust, and it appears they genuinely regret it. And with Germany's special relationship with Israel, especially with Merkel as Chancellor, I really don't have too many complaints. (And as for Austrians, well, that's a whole different story).

bob ,   NZ   (12.27.10)
In the 1960s at school we were taught that what happened in Germany , can happen in any society, given the right conditions. That's why we were taught always to question authority, and never blindly follow the crowd. Your attitude towards Germans is simple bigotry.
7. #2 gets it
Daimler Benz ,   ger   (12.27.10)
the old haters die out, but there is no antisemitic vacuum. oh, i meant antizionist... calling it the red-green-alliance is not too far from the truth, when describing the new haters. a very vocal alliance and on the other hand a violent one, too, which keeps people from speaking out. nothing is over! they only just begun!
8. #3 'what kind of people'
Daimler Benz ,   ger   (12.27.10)
I happen to have asked myself this question a few times, too. I concluded, they still are the same ppl. That's why I will never trust them as a whole, only individuals. Swarm intelligence does not apply here, it's swarm madness and it could very well break out again, in modified and more sophisticated forms. Saw it happening when the turkish flotilla came along to Gaza and you bet the german reactions made me already think I live amongst looniez, only waiting to freak out.
9. sorry, you saw them...
eporue ,   europe   (12.27.10)
it seems an impossible thing, that someone who grow up and was educated in germany, could have doubts about the history. would be interesting to know, where this man was from... doubting or "discussing" the holocaust is not forbidden in germany. what makes prison up to 5 years is denying the holocaust in public (speeches). even if its annoying, especially in germany, everyone can have their questions or doubts - also on the holocaust. but those questions have to be answered by the germans, not the victims... there is certainly no need, to beat someone out of the room. asking a question is enough, to get beaten and called something negative by everyone around ? are we back in the 30s ? maybe, it was because they felt ashamed by him ? maybe, they didnt want you, as a victim, to get "threatened" (again) ? maybe - maybe - maybe - if it hadnt happened in that german cesspit of berlin... an important lesson of the holocaust is tolerance, listen, and speak up - not beat up.
10. thanks bob from NZ
Rahel ,   Israel   (12.27.10)
Exactly what I think and what I was taught (20 years later than you). Each and every one of us needs to be on the watch. All over the world people blindly follow leaders and don't question enough. Genozide happened before the Holocaust and after and will happen again, if we do not watch out!
11. The other Germans - But - The same Germany.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (12.27.10)
The Serbian people know this wery well. As soon as Germany was Reunited, Germany began the same Policy in the Balkans, as in Former History, this by Supporting or even Instigating the breaking up of Yugoslavia. The German National Consciousness has not Changed, and will Rise to its Full once again. There where Other Germans even during the Holocoast and the Second world war, they did no differense. Orao.Serbia.
12. Societies are not static. They change over time.
Zvi   (12.27.10)
The world-view and ideals of one generation may be radically different than those of a previous generation. To assume that societies are static is usually a mistake. Take Jewish society, for example. Jewish society changed radically between 1945 and 2010. You must understand that we are not at all unique in this sense. German-Jewish relations in 1500 were radically different from German-Jewish relations in 1900, which were radically different from German-Jewish relations in 1943, which were radically different from German-Jewish relations in 2010. For that matter, Germans' relations with their fellow Europeans changed in very extreme ways over the course of the 20th century, as did other factors such as the role of the Church and the role of various ideologies. Today, many Germans oppose anti-Semitism and regard Nazi ideology with unmitigated horror. They live in a democratic society that the Nazis would have abhorred. Their country is part of a European framework that the Nazis would have decried. They have elected a government that is more friendly toward Israel than most western European governments. I have never personally experienced anti-Semitism in Germany or, for that matter, in Italy. I have spent non-trivial amounts of time in both countries. I *have* personally experienced anti-Semitic incidents in the UK and in parts of the US. In part, this was no doubt the luck of the draw; but it does rather strongly underscore the fact that societies change over time. Always try to learn from the past, and never assume that others have not learned something from it too.
13. to no. 12
(12.27.10)
Zvi- It is precisely what you write about that is proof positive that things for hte most part Do Not change in germany and here is why; You mention that the German mindset over the last several centuries has waxed and wained in either pro/or con us 'Jews'. This ought to show you that when times are good for those same germans they tolerate us at best, and when times are 'bad' they do not. This ebbing is proof enough that they do not in reality ever accept us and at best will only 'tolerate' us in their society given any moment in time. Their disenfranchesement among the new 'Jews' who are now named turks ofwhich there is only about 2 million out of a population of 80 million, ought to tell you something. I read and have read the English version of the German news online and have several friends who are from this country who tell me that Germans still have the same mindset, mentality only have now appiled it towards another ethnic group instead of us Jews. So no, they really have not learned much which has transfered or generalized to other peoples in their own homeland.
14. I lived in Germany. (Frankfurt/Main and Berlin).
Efroim ,   Washington DC   (12.27.10)
I personaly witnessed good germans and some die-hard nazis as well. I will tell you one thing though, I witnessed more nazis and anti-semites in USA than anywhere alese in the world. Especially lately. Times have changed. The schools in USA area joke and many of the "universities" have many anti-jewish, anti-israel professors who poison the minds of young students. Ironicaly, Germany is one of the closest allies Israel has. USA with "Pwezident Obama" has taken a turn for the worst. Just wanted to shed some light for the readers. Shalom.
15. #11 Orao from Srbia
Bier und Brezn ,   Europe   (12.27.10)
what are you talking about? What exactly did reunited Germany to Serbia? I would like to learn.
16. to no. 14
(12.27.10)
this is true and especially so in UCLA @ Irvine. This is a hotbed of viral anit-semitism there. Let us all keep in mind how things appeared in the world at us defending our homeland in Israel in December just a few of years ago. The entire world, including in the USA, ( most of all in southern florida) AND especially in GERMANY with some of the nationals up in arms and protesting in the streets with vitriol and seething hatred for us all. this ought to demonstrate that ALL over we have to be ever vigilitant and mindful that we are still hated in nearly every corner of the world. with respect to germany, this place which is devoid of any tangible soul and unless given or made to have, absent of any real conscious of what seems to be right or wrong morally. some things NEVER change. The same way you can not genetically alter an inheritant species, holds true for everything which exists. things are what they are and let us do not forget that.

19. anti-semitism in germany
felix ,   stuttgart, germany   (12.27.10)
i hate people saying that anti-semitism is growing in germany. in my opinion that is not true. i'm definitely not an anti-semitist just because i have a different opinion about the palestenian issue. this is so often being misinterpreted as anti-semitism. which should be called (if any) anti-israeli or more precisely israeli-critical. but that is only a matter of their politics. what counts for the majority of people I know, is the attitude and character of a person. the religion or country you're from doesn't really matter. :) peace

Maurice ,   LA, USA   (12.28.10)
The problem with people who say I'am not anti-semite, I simply do not agree with the way Israel treats palestinians isthat these people just take everything that the palestininans say as fact. Tell me have you made the effort to research the roots and causes of the current conflicts? Do you read the other side of the story? Do you know the history of this land? Repeating the same lies over and over again does not make them facts. So yes making anti-Israel statements without knowing the facts is an anti-semeitic attitute. The under-dog is not always right.
21. #19. Anti Zionism is "Antisemitism" especially with Germans
Elly ,   Vienna, Austria   (12.28.10)
#19. Anti Zionism is "Antisemitism" especially with Germans. You are the last people who should bash at Israel.
22. Freeedom of speech
Peter   (12.28.10)
So you get beaten in Germany if you have a different opinion as the crowd. That reminds me of certain people and certain times in Germany. It is nothing to brag about.I know that guy was a freak but even freaks should enjoy freedom of speech!
23. "...while beating him up"?!
Herozion Ashkenazi ,   Adelaide, Palestine   (01.03.11)
How many men against one guy who obviously tried to ask a question?
24. @freedom of speech
Jan ,   Germany   (01.03.11)
You do not get beaten ´cause you have different opinion and freedom of speech is importand for a democracy BUT as long as there are people alive who survived the holocaust it is also importand to save their dignity and that means they have to be saved from paople loke that. and by the way: antisemitisism ist still a problem in germany and here aren´t to many people as brave as those ones and still many don´t speak out at all. If you would have any knowlege about the holocaust and the unhumanity of the nazi-time you would be more carefull and would see that you really have to decide between saving the dignity of a victim and saving freedom of speech just in one special case. as long as there are still survivors i plead for human dignity.
25. These "other Germans" weren't the other ...
Robert Soran ,   Frankfurt Germany   (01.03.11)
Beating somebody up is not the kind of civilized behavior I would be willing to accept from people who fight Nazis and neo-Nazis. Because it were Nazis (and Communists) who used to beat up those whose thinking was different of theirs. If those who Mr. Klieger calls "other Germans" have beaten up the Holocaust denier, then I doubt that Mr. Klieger has the right attitude towards democracy. Since denial is a penal crime in Germany, the right thing to do is to call the police ...
26. Quick question for you guys...
Josep ,   Battle Ground, WA   (02.20.18)
Why the heck should today's generations be guilty of crimes their forefathers committed? To accuse modern Germans of the Holocaust is as bad as accusing today's Americans for the slave trade of the 1800s (to say nothing about the plight of the Native Americans), or today's Britons for the colonial actions of the British Empire. Why beat a dead horse?
