31. 1 Salma - Congress is Irrelevant
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (12.26.10)
Congress was irrelevant in 1948 when Harry Truman recognized Israel. Obama could act and Congress would be irrelevant now. But I don't think Obama will act just yet. He is naive enough to think Netanyahu has changed his stripes and actually believes in two states, but cannot find a way to satisfy his coalition.
32. Sadly, with Barck (derived from Barakah in Arabic) Hussein..
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (12.26.10)
...Obama in the White House, and with the level of hostility the man has shown Israel and the people whose nation-state Israel is, the Jewish people, from his first day at the Oval Office, I wouldn't be surprised Obama could make a move which is contrary to Israel's historic, ethical and legal right to hold on to the territories until a mutually agreed accommodation of peaceful coexistence is reached. The people to whom we must thank are the 78.5% Jews in America who voted for a disciple of Rev. J. Wright instead of thinking of their own country, the USA, and the national-home, Israel first.
33. Obama has his own agenda, a loose cannon
David P. ,   Capitola, CA   (12.26.10)
Watch out for rogue Obama, he doesn't care about Israel at all
34. Best thing ever!
Zuni ,   Tfat, Israel   (12.26.10)
Only when the world accepts Palestine will this government decide it should start talking - if its not too late. Will you people stop believing we are the centre of the world. I see sanctions around the corner - THAT will the end of us. We don't NEED the land - we need huge buildings of hi - tech. If not most of the young brilliant men and courageous soldiers will leave - while you keep praying as your families did in Europe
35. Ben Eliezer scare tactics to undermine Barak & bring down th
zionist forever   (12.26.10)
Not even Hussain Obama would dare go that far. If he could he would but whilst the US jews who are still some of his biggest fans support their government pushing the palestinian cause they do not want a state declared unilaterally. Its also a decision for Congress to make not Obama and the new Republican led Congress is more pro Israel & they include politicians from districts that are very pro Israel. The only reason the US has refrained from recognizing an arab state so far is because of the political implications. Its very fashionable to support the palestinian cause and its also very prestigious if your a mediator. These countries who the world takes no notice of 90% of the time are now making themselves high profile and following fashion by recognizing an a non existent arab state. Non of these countries care about the palestinians or peace making all they want to do is get noticed. Ben Eliezer is fed up of Barak acting as a member of the coalition rather than opposition and wants to return to the traditional policy of surrender which has always been Labor policy so he resorts to scare tactics.
36. Finally the words are out there for all of Israel to see!
Edithann ,   USA   (12.26.10)
There isn't enough Jewish money to buy our congress forever... Remember those bus signs? It's just a matter of time! It's always been a matter of time... Palestinians have been there for thousands of years and will remain there for thousands more.... TATA
37. B.Eliezer doesn't know US Congress
RAYS ,   USA   (12.26.10)
Either he doesn't know US Congress and understand Obama is "on the rocks" or the Labor Minister is twisting things purely for political gain and against Israel's interests. A firm Israel gains supports. Israel has been weakiened by not being firm enough in stating it's positions.
38. More leftist scare mongering..........
Wise Saba ,   Eretz Yisrael   (12.26.10)
Neither Congress nor the Senate will let Obummer or The Hilda Beast get away with this garbage.
39. PALESTINE AS A RECOGNIZED STATE
FACEFAX ,   NEW YORK, USA   (12.26.10)
IF PALESTINE DECIDES IT IS AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY, IT SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SUPPLY ITSELF WITH ITS OWN CURRENCY, ITS OWN WATER, ITS OWN ELECTRICITY, ITS OWN SANITATION, ITS OWN TAXES, AND FINALY, ITS OWN DEFENSE.
40. Either way, Israel loses
David ,   La Mesa Calif   (12.26.10)
First, this article is oddly remiss in not even bothering to mention the U.S. congress' emphatic rejection of recognizing Palestine. This story would have been worth something if if gave a commentary on "how and why the Obama might override the Congress" or something like that. What are the complications he faces in this, etc ? Instead, the article almost makes it seem Ben-Eliezer doesn't realize the "U.S.," i.e. Congress, has already rejected the prospect that he raises. Of course it is extremely unlikely that Obama would recognize Palestine. Almost an impossibility. He would incur the enmity of many of his party, and the wrath of the powerful Jewish lobby. Only if he loses in 2012 might he decide, as a lame duck, to give Palestine his blessing. So, America will continue to stand out before the world as Israel's patsy. Other leading nations in this hemisphere recognize Palestine, but not U.S. Leading nations in Asia and Europe recognize Palestine, but not U.S. So once again we see the reality magnified. Other nations take the logical, inevitable diplomatic step, but the U.S. Congress kowtows to Israel and does the opposite. Once again, it is demonstrated that U.S. is controlled, lock, stock and barrel, by the Israel lobby.
41. Waiting for what?
Gabe Yakmore ,   Canada   (12.26.10)
Annex Judea and Samaria while it is still time. The sooner the better. The world will get used to it.
42. To @40, David
~~Lengualima~~ ,   I   (12.26.10)
Conform to your comment, all problems of the USA, economics, politics, military. will be solve removing the support of USA to Israel. Are you sure of that? 1. All the problems of the USA are not fault of Israel. 2. The Middle East problem is more complex that as you see. 3. If Israel disappears today, tomorrow all will be harmony in the region. False, before 1917 the Arabs blamed of all his problems to Otomans, after 1917 to the British, after 1948 to Israel and USA. tomorrow who will be? 4. If USA today remove his support to Israel the Arabs-Muslims would love USA. False, the conflict is not only originated by one political or territorial problems, but for the reject of a diferent culture, and numerous Arabs-Muslims think the Occidental culture is corrupt, decadent, sinful, diferent. and therefore must be destroyed. 5. If USA do not support Israel and remove his troops from Afhganistan and Irak the terrorism would end. False, all the radical Muslims, who are fighting in these countries, will have free hands to do so in USA and Europe. I understand your point of view, is very human. But not ever the wide way is the best way. Greetings
43. Congress is not powerless
Seppo ,   Finland   (12.26.10)
If US congress wants it can any day fire Obama because he is not eligible for president. It does not matter where he is born but he is not "natural boern citizen" requiring that both parents are American citizens. Obama's farther is not. Obama knows this and his lawyers fight to protect him. But Congress can easily do it. For 25 years East Bank of Jordan was according to text which Britain accepted in 1921: "to treat it as Arab Province of Palestine". Jews were not allowed to move there. In 1946 area was determined to be Transjordan. In 1947 UN discussed about splitting Palestine between Arabs and Jews. OOOPS somehow they forgot that UN had a year earlier accepted splitting of Palestine between Arabs and Jews. UN 181 became soon void because Arabs rejected it. Thus one question remains open. Why part of the Jewish homeland was suddenly moved to be Arab land. I can figure out only two alternatives 1. UN 181 which is void. If somedy wants to use it then all of it should be used, also Jerusalem population should vote what to do with the City. My bet is that vote would be undivided Israel capital. 2. Jordan's illegal attack in 1948 and illegal occupation of the WB during which they killed or expelled Jews. Based on the same Geneva ruling of which Israel is accused Jordan should have pulled out of the WB leaving it to be the Jewish homeland. UN Charter 80 makes it clear that rights created by the Mandate and terms of the Mandate were not effected. This is the problem with which Ben-Elieser should be dealing with instead of trying to capitulate to talks in which Arabs will make no concessions whatsoever.
44. #7
Mark ,   Los Angeles   (12.26.10)
#7 You sound like a half wit. The jews in the middle east do not eat this type of food. These Deli foods were brought over from the few survivors of european mass murder against the jews.
45. Congress Rejected Israel in 48
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (12.26.10)
The Republican Congress opposed Truman in 1948 as much or more than the new Congress opposes Obama. Notwithstanding, the power is the President's alone - it was in 48 with Israel, was in 2007 with Kosovo and remains so today. Even so, Obama is naive and likely to believe Netanyahu remains committed to two states. Obama is naive and thinks it is only the Coalition keeping Netanyahu from making a deal.
46. #40...none of those recognitions by congress is binding...
Edithann ,   USA   (12.27.10)
And with enough information about what Israel has cost the US, I wouldn't bet anything on us continuing our insanity with more support...For What? What has Israel ever done for the US? Israel got us into Iraq and Jewish banks have bankrupted us...and you want the American Tax Payer to go after Iran..You're all too, too funny... I kind of like the fact that you're all quaking in your yamakas about recognizing Palestine..Doesn't matter..all of Europe will, the UN and EU.... You Israeli's must drink some interesting stuff...Is it distilling urine for the fourth time that does it? TATA
47. # 40....NO!
Edithann ,   USA   (12.27.10)
It's obvious you don't know how US govt. works...and yes, all the USA problems have been the fault of Israel..and the money they've used to undermine our government...but you broke us..and there isn't any more money...hahahaha Congress can do nothing on it's own..no part of the govt. can...you'd have to bribe everyone...Does Israel have that kind of money, buy new arms and build settlements too???? TATA
48. palestinians
gaby ,   Australia   (12.27.10)
To #s 19, 21 and 23 The word is not pali or pally it is, repeat after me p-a-l-e-s-t-i-n-i-a-n. Or can't you do 5 syllables?
49. and IF they do?
Reuvain ,   Nahariyah   (12.27.10)
Is it better if we declare a Palestinian State than if they do? They can declare we don't have to recognize or accept them! Foooooooo-ad you make no sense, my suggesttion to you is to start running 20km a day and lose some of your fat it is settling in your brain. All that food you fress is backing up causing your intestines to excrete from your mouth instead of your sphincter.
50. To: No. 46
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.27.10)
What is your problem? Have you forgotten the wild and jubilant celebrations that took place in Gaza and the West Bank in the aftermath of the terror attacks upon the United States on September 11, 2001? Why do you support those who rejoice in American misery? If you hate the United States so much, why do you continue to live there? Shouldn't you be living in Gaza City, where you can put your money where your mouth is? Should the NSA be looking into your traitorous ways? Here, enjoy -- these are the "Palestinians" whose "cause" you have so clearly embraced: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrM0dAFsZ8k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV_eN4YEEI0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ2xvlw-d9c&NR=1 You are a vile and disgusting creature, Edithann. You have no right to claim United States citizenship. You should leave, and reside with your terrorist friends, whom, I am sure, will welcome you with open arms. I hope you look good in black, and I sure do hope you don't mind being decked out wrapped up like a mummy in 100 degree Farenheit heat ..... Oh well. Ta Ta.
51. To: No. 47
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.27.10)
"yes, all the USA problems have been the fault of Israel." Wow! Would that include Korea? Vietnam? Cuba? Grenada? Panama? Drugs? The collapse of the foreign -- repeat, FOREIGN -- credit markets? Or are you just a dyed-in-the-wool anti-Semite who vents the anger for her sorry, pathetic, unsuccessful and very humdrum life on the Jewish people? Please forgive us for being successful. On the other hand -- hey, take pride in what you do! Someone has to swamp the office building toilets! Who better than you? You are, after all, so very well acquainted with sh*t! I'd say you found your true calling! Gotta go; the limo's here. Ta Ta.
