Maybe it's only my opinion but it seems that Israel is loosing one diplomatic battle after another. Probably most of Israelis admire Mr. Lieberman, but the rest of the world doesn't. The question is what's the task of FM in your goverment?

To all those anti-British talkbackers - you don't understand the British mentality. The fact that they may want to upgrade the PA representation does NOT mean that they are recognizing "Palestine" as an independent country and it CERTAINLY DOES NOT mean that they are anti-Israel. They are just trying to be FAIR with everyone involved in their own typically British manner because that's the way they see it. They think that this will be beneficial for all - they're not taking sides here, just trying to do their bit to promote mutual understanding. Get over it.

That mentality of ''fairness'' applies not only to the thinking of the silent majority of people in Britain but also to its offshoots in countries like Canada, Australia, NZ It has surprised me how many talk-backers think in terms of who are Israel's ''friends'' or who ''loves'' Jews. If you go back to the concept of ''fairness'' you can see how much wasted effort it is for Israelis to try and win hearts by promoting Israel's contributions to the world. None of that talk does anything to advance Israel's cause. In some cultures, where modesty is the supreme virtue, its even counter-productive, because it's seen as pointless bragging. Neither should Israel think that sharing many of the same values is vitally important. What values do western countries share with the PA? Very few , I suspect. Israel's efforts should be directed towards appealing to those countries' sense of ''fair play'', because that is how those cultures look at the situation. Israel was not popular once because it was ''strong'' - it was popular once because it was the underdog...i.e. when the sense of fairness suggested that the Arabs were not being fair to Israel. The ME mentality seems to be entirely different. It's more about who is the best, who is the strongest. So Israel needs to use different PR techniques according to which countries it is trying to enlist to it's cause. If it does not care about enlisting countries to its cause then thats fine too, but thats my two cents worth.
