1. Two things ...
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (12.28.10)
First: Good shooting, IDF. Thank you for all you do to keep Israel safe. You are _very_ appreciated! Second: The article calls the terrorist that was killed a "victim". This is not only inaccurate but misleading.
2. Abu Rok got rocked !! Oh well, no big loss.

3. Get serious or go home.
Shlomo Kamera   (12.28.10)
"On Friday, a Qassam rocket and a mortar bomb were fired at Israel however no injuries or damage were reported. " BORING!
4. Hamas "ready to respond" to any Israeli act of self-defense
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (12.28.10)
"There is a ceasefire but we are ready to respond to any Israeli act of aggression." Only in an Orwellian world would Hamas' claims be taken seriously. Sadly, we live in Orwellian times.
5. No death announcements !...Propaganda value !

7. doi!
pini ,   usrael   (12.28.10)
there is a cease fire. Hamas mility wing fires rockets and then trys to place bombs on the border, and WE are the ones acting with aggression?? doi! wait is 2+2=5 ?
8. to #6
Yaakov ,   Here   (12.28.10)
He was planting explosives that would kill many innocent people. If you want to defend that, it will be you out there next time since you probably love terrorism.
9. #6 Observer
Dallas ,   Canada   (12.28.10)
He was a would-be murderer. What kind of logic goes through your head that you defend such behavior? Unless a person is part of an army at war or a defender against such acts, all acts of killing humans are murder.
10. #8 infantry, artillery, helicopters? where he was planting
observer   (12.28.10)
explosives? near Khan Yunis, near border fence? that is the code used by Israel to design a couple of Km or so from the border INSIDE Gaza. so, in the first place the explosives were intended to be defensive; it wont fly to hit Israeli civilian or soldier, secondly infantry, artillery, helicopters isn't that toooo much a force.
11. victim
Ian Sassoon ,   New York   (12.28.10)
how can you call this guy a victim if he was planting explosives?
12. if he were Israeli, Ma'an would also have called him victim

Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (12.28.10)
There is no such thing as to much force when someone is trying to kill you, unless your out to win a Darwin award.
14. This ain't working
Ron ,   OC, US   (12.28.10)
Hamas will pay the price of a few dead per week to probe Israeli lines and fire rockets with the prospect of hitting a school. The IAF will have to change the target list from a few tunnels and empty buildings to some meaningful targets.
15. # 10
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.28.10)
So you think that by planting explosives INSIDE the border, inside Gaza, is legal? Planting explosives is meant to kill. Wake up will you.
16. To #6 and #10
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (12.28.10)
(2nd try) Observer, in post #6 you said: "what type of rifle that Palestinian was carrying to be hit by a mortar?" A week ago today, a 14 year old girl was hit by shrapnel from a qassam rocket that struck near a kindergarten. She was unarmed. In post #10 you said: "the explosives were intended to be defensive; it wont fly to hit Israeli civilian or soldier" As defensive as the mortars and rockets you keep firing at civilians inside of Israel? Like the one last week that struck near a kindergarten at about the time parents were expected to be dropping off children? The one that injured an unarmed girl? Observer, like all bullies, you blame the victim of your bullying, and like all sociopaths, you consider it injustice when the victim of your bullying finally fights back.

19. What is the Truth?
JMG ,   Boston, USA   (12.29.10)
IDF kills Palestinian trying to place explosives near Gaza fence. Iran hangs man who spied for Mossad. Two individuals were killed. Will we ever know the truth about why they were killed? The 'truth' was told to us by Israeli and Iranian authorities.

rob ,   Orangevale USA   (12.29.10)
Kol Hakavod first of all, to the sharpshooting mortar team, chopper pilots, and infantry boys. I'm sure everyone wanted a piece of this terrorists death. It is a matter of national pride to be able to detect and accurately destroy these fiends, before they get another Israeli. If there are still problems, move the frontier another 5 kilometers back! Death to these people who live to plant bombs, they have no place in humanity . Butterscotch Observer?
22. #10 Oberver, get yourself observed
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.29.10)
Every hear about the tunnels under the border fence ?, if not you should have, which proves you're not very observant..Those tunnels are dug with the intent of placing explosives under Israeli positions on the Israeli side Kassam rockets are capable of flying more than a couple of KM, the most primitive have a range of 15 miles or more and can carry loads of 30KG There's no such thing as overkill when it's your own life that's being threatened Would you mind telling us when was the last time your served in the military, and your area of expertise, other than massaive blasts of hot air ?
23. #18 Fence Question
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.29.10)
It doesn't matter where the fence is, Hamas keeps on firing rockets OVER it
24. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.29.10)
Hey, I'd like to ask you a question. Let's say you get mad at someone for a perceived insult (real or imagined), and decide that you have to respond. So you go out, get a gun, an ammunition clip, load the gun, find the person who is the object of your anger, and fire the gun at him at point blank range. Point, click, shoot -- and nothing happens. The gun jams. So one of the many witnesses calls the police, and when they arrive at the scene, do you think that they'll just shrug their shoulders, say "no one got hurt; no harm, no foul; everybody can go home." Not on your nelly. Everybody besides you can go home -- you, darling, are going upstate for thirty years for attempted murder. The law operates on the basis of intent, not efficacy. Frankly, the various jihadi operatives in Gaza couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but that makes no difference. That's a question of efficacy. The intent -- firing a Qassam and a mortar at a civilian populated area of Israel -- is all that matters. Israel is fully justified in retaliating. You really are quite pathetic -- "boring?" Tell you what. Let's plant you in the path of a Qassam or a mortar. Something tells me you won't find it "boring" in the least. Something tells me you will soil your pants and drop to the ground screaming in terror. "Boring," indeed. I will echo a sentiment I am certain you have heard thousands of time from an assortment of people: you are a pluperfect idiot.

Yes, I think an honorary Darwin award is in order. He really has earned it.
26. Q. for knowledgeable people only ...
JB ,   SoCal, USA   (12.29.10)
. . . please, no bullsh*tters need apply: Exactly WHERE is the so-called (northern) Gaza border fence located . . . EXACTLY? * is it EXACTLY on the border? * is it INSIDE ISRAEL? * is it INSIDE GAZA? * or are there TWO, one at the border and another inside Israel? That way, any Hamas jackass approaching the second fence is automatically dead meat with no legal recourse. And I would think that IDF legal people would have already thought of this to cover their ass(es). Look at the "border fence" with Lebanon for instance. In some areas, there are actually TWO fences, one at the border, and another inside Israel. That way, if Hiz/Lebs approach the fence that's inside israel in that area, they are already trespassing inside Israel and are fair game for instant "martyrdom" . . . LOL. Next stop: Wikipedia, to see if there's a clear answer posted there by a reputable source. Maybe Elder of Ziyon.com will know . . . (yes, that's how HE spells it)
27. northern / southern
JB ,   SoCal, USA   (12.29.10)
yes, I know the article is about the SOUTHERN Gaza border. Knowledgeable folks can reply about that fence too. tanks . . .
28. no human shield reported?
observer   (12.29.10)
in the Breaking of the Silence testimonies: People are called "Johnnie. They're Palestinian civilians" in Gaza neighborhoods. In checking out houses, "we send the neighbor in, the 'Johnnie,' and if there are armed men inside, we (use) 'pressure cooker' procedures....to get them out alive....to catch the armed men." When necessary, combat helicopters are called in to fire anti-tank missiles at civilian homes. Then send a "Johnnie" in to check for dead and wounded. http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/breaking-the-silence-testimony-gaza.pdf The actual issues that arise – ammunition and rules of engagement, policy on house demolitions, treatment of civilian population, the tactics that were used – are neither explicitly denied nor confirmed. Instead, the army's spokesman decided to cast the testimonies as utterly unreliable, thereby avoiding the need to address their content. What is denied by Israel is the right of self-defense practiced by Palestinians on their on land to defend their civilians. What do expect from fervent land grabber?

You are still following this thread, but have not answered my questions. I'm wondering, why not? Is it because you KNOW you can't justify kindergarten kids being targeted by YOUR people? Is it because you KNOW your Victim badge looks a bit tarnished when unarmed Jewish girls are hurt by YOUR people's mortar/rocket fire? Why don't you answer the REAL questions, Observer? Specifically: HOW CAN YOU DARE JUSTIFY MUSLIMS TRYING TO KILL JEWISH WOMEN AND CHILDREN?
