Why is it that Ahavas Yisrael is secondary to love of the enemy? I would not be upset if my stepsons married someone of a different ethnicity (African, Asian, etc.) as long as they were Jewish and loved Judaism as much as I do. I bet if you polled the Rebbetzin, they might be startled by contrasting ethnicities, but as long as the spouse was halachically Jewish, and promised to raise their kids in a traditional or Orthodox manner, they wouldn't be issuing letters forbidding a Chassana between them. Yes, intermarriage is an issue that should be dealt with in a humane and understanding manner. Clearly, with only 14 million +/- Jews in the world, if every Jew were to intermarry, within two generations no Jews would remain. The rabbis' wives have the right idea, but apparently like all Israelis, have a PR problem. How unfortunate that this was done in the form of an open letter, with their signatures, (too reminiscent of status conscious rabbis putting their John Hancock on this or that) as if seeing their names on a petition will matter one whit. "I know halacha already forbids it, but if Rebettzen So-and-So doesn't want me to date Mohammed - I'll break up tonight!" But who can deny the grave consequences that a Jew will pay when she moves to an village with a backward Arab cuture. It's not racism to say that Arab culture is backward. That ALL Arab and Muslim cultures dominate women, and that Arab men change the sweet-talking after you marry them. It's only racism to hate Arabs for no reason. We have plenty of reasons. Sorry Qirrish, but you are getting this wrong. Perhaps two generations ago the Mizrahi Jews of Israel spoke Arabic, but now they speak Hebrew and many are married to Ashkeanzim. Once Mizrahim did speak Arabic, but it was Judea-Arabic, a Jewish dialect written in Hebrew letters. But, this once vibrant Jewish community was destroyed by Arab nationalists, with the support and urging of Palestinian Arab nationalists. Arab governments expelled, or otherwise pressured to leave, nearly one million Mizrahi Jews. These governments took all their property. If its true that Mizrahi Jews as a whole are more hostile to Arabs don't you think it may have something to do with the brutal manner in which they were treated by Arabs?

We have to assume that #24 Michael gains his "knowledge" of Talmudic teachings from the internet, and most likely from sites not overly learned in Torah and Talmud, to put it generously. I don't know if Michael knows the difference between the MIshna and Gemara, and how they together comprise the Talmud. Or, if he knows how many tractates there are of Talmud, and how many chapters. All basic stuff. But, he does seem to know what "the Talmud" teaches about non-Jews: "they are animals!" Well, no. Not at all and infact just the opposite. The passages he quotes are taken out of context and mistranslated -- does Michael know the languages of the Talmud (Hebrew, Aramaic, a little Greek)? Does he know the difference between the Talmudic concepts of "adam", "ben adam" and "ha-adam"? All could be mis-translated as "man" or "human" especially by modern Hebrew speakers. But, the Talmud's Hebrew is not modern Hebrew and has nuances absent from modern Hebrew. To Michael my only advice is: go and learn!
