Israel gets very little in financial aid from the US nowdays. As finance minister under Sharon Bibi negotiated away financial aid for an increase in military aid. The militry aid is nothing but a subsidy of the US arms industry as the bulk of it must be spent in the US. Even then the US earns more out of it that it cost because of all the strings attached. Israel wanst to buy its new Namer Merkava based APC and so it can be paid for with military aid its being built in the US. That means a brand new production line to be opened in the US and emplying more people to operate the thing. A condition says anything not being paid for by aid we must buy the bulk of it from the US. We are not allowed to pick and choose where we shop around for the bulk of the weapons so we can't take the freebies from the US and then buy everything else in Europe. If we buy an F16 we need to buy spare parts to keep it flying and the US are the only people who can Israel spends alot more of its own money in the US on weapons than it gets in aid. Military aid is more like a discount in a store. Financial aid can be spent on anything from anywhere. The US give Abbas $1 billion and he can spend it on just about anything he wants from anywhere he wants. That $1 billion cost tax payers, military aid benefits US taxpayers.
