1. Peace 2.
Jules   (01.01.11)
Another attempt to dismember Israel by inventing a brand-new "peace process". Nothing new.
2. No link
Rachel ,   US   (01.01.11)
There is not any link between the appointment of the ambassador and a peace breakthrough. Obama had the chance to appoint him without Congress' approval and he did it. This is a scam by the Syrians to avoid the tribunal.
3. If I had a $ for everytime Ive heard this,Id be a Millionair
Alan ,   SA   (01.01.11)
4. Syria Israeli peace talks !
DT ,   TA Israel   (01.01.11)
Why do we have to start 2011 with a bad and boring repetitive joke ? Anyone want to bet how many more times in 2011 we will read the same headline ?
5. Golan and peace
Alf Red, Londonistan ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
Can somebody explain this recurring desire in Israeli "spheres" to get rid of Golan? Why is the de-facto peace with Syria any worse than "peace" with Egypt? No, Mr Halutz, PEOPLE will not approve a leader who for some nefarious reasons would bring Syrian tanks and cannons to the shore of Sea of Galilee!
6. Israeli-Syrian peace...?? Certainly, by all means...!! Peace
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (01.01.11)
for peace, now!! Peace for peace should be a cause of celebration by all!!

(01.01.11)
10. What a joke?
~~Lengualima~~ ,   I   (01.01.11)
The only peace possible for the Arabs, all the Jews outside Israel, Europe and other continents. The entire territory of Israel divided among its neighbors, the one with the longer barrel will have more territory, Israel disappears when to concentrate all their efforts may in turn, Europe and America in a caliphate. Peace, Peace, Peace, Peace, what a joke?
11. Fear of an international court
sam ,   paris   (01.01.11)
Bashar Assad is afraid of an international court Is considered direct negotiations with Israel can lead to spare the system of the International Tribunal
12. An other attempt by the Assad Mafia to secure its future
Joe ,   Canada   (01.01.11)
13. # 7
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
Peace with Syria means Israel giving up the Golan. No Israeli citizen will vote for this in the referendum.
14. The Golan
RC ,   USA   (01.01.11)
By now you would expect Israel as a whole to have learned from the past, giving up land for peace does not work, especially if it was biblical property restored while defending the country from the enemy. The Muslims that have already attacked Israel in the past will lie through their teeth and promise a false peace until they perceive that Israel is weakened enough to attack it. If Israel is naïve enough to give up the Golan which is a strategic defensive land position, then it will deserve what will happen in the future. With Turkey now joining those who wish for Israel’s demise the next time the Muslim countries that surround Israel join up to attack Israel it will most probably take a nuclear response or Divine intervention to save Israel. You should pray that your leadership has the backbone and willpower to defend Israel from the onslaught that will come in the future, for it has already been prophesied in the Old and New Testaments. May Yahuwah bless and keep Israel safe.
15. Ha ! A Bunch of Hypocrites .
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.01.11)
16. Breakthrough?Bullshit
Avi ,   Tel Aviv   (01.01.11)
The only "news" in this, if that source is true , that Syria is whilling to get away from Iran+Hezballah. I think they will try to offer peace+getting away from evels= Golan hights.so whats new about it? thats what they said all these years.knowing the Israeli side is not stupid and won't agree, they don't care to promise optimistic promises. its like: oh i want peace! i'll behave! what?! you are not giving me Golan? where did i put my Sager misiles?
17. We will never give up the Golan. We paid
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (01.01.11)
too high a price for it in two wars. For those interested, read the military history entitled "Duel for the Golan" by Jerry Asher with Eric Hammel.
18. Is the Iranian money spigot running dry in Syria?
Joe ,   Canada   (01.01.11)
19. Peace
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (01.01.11)
Get rid of Assad dinasty's first and then peace will come.
20. On now live from Damascus it's...
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (01.01.11)
Saturday Night Live... Starrin Assad who want to talk and Abbas who doesn't
21. Helping Iran
Concerned Citizen ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
The entire affair is aimed towards helping reduce Diplomatic pressure on Iran in connection with it's nuclear ambitions. It is a futile effort that will not benefit Israel in any way, and may play to the hands of adversary.
22. To Nº 10
Luiz Felipe Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (01.01.11)
Lengualima, that issue is not a joke; it is too serious. Not all Arab people want to destroy Israel. Golan Heights must be carefully negotiated with Syria, instead of the extremes "give back" and "no give back". I saw that place from Galilee Sea, and I know its importance to the security of down situated Israelian villages. Then, I think, for having devolution, it is necessary a true Hebrew State's recognizing by Damascus and a full prohibition of military forces into the refered place. It may be difficult, but without dialogues Peace will never come. Luiz Felipe Haddad, Brazil.
23. The Golan is Israel's forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.02.11)
Dan Halutz is a dangerous leftist fool. He is parroting the exact same words which preceded virtually every disastrous Israeli concession. The cowardly, lunatic concessions was invariably described as bold, heroic etc. Israelis know the Golan is ours forever and that it is absolutely necessary for our security. We won't allow anyone to take it for a piece of paper or for any reason whatsoever.
24. Peace with Syria
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.02.11)
Let's give it a try,no peace no Golan, secular Syria could be an asset to Israel and the west.
25. To 22, Luiz
~~Lengualima~~ ,   I   (01.02.11)
To Luiz Felipe Haddad @ 22: Allow me to apologize for not putting the adjective "radical" before the Arabic word for this sentence: "The only peace possible for the Arabs." It is true what you say, "Not all the Arabs, not all Muslims want to destroy it." But it is also true that a lot of them want. will also give the reason this is not a joke, but I think after 63 years of taking this as a joke on the Arab side, the vast majority of which were spent 45 years, dreaming of how: "to destroy, the problem is not has been willing, but unable to. The Golan Heights belonged to Israel since biblical times, were ceded to the French by the British -1920 - for the Palestinian mandate in violation of rules established by. I hope that something as serious as peace we take it seriously, even if a society where children are taught to hate is a virtue, killing in the name of God is to do your will, it is impossible to aspire to peace. Best. ~~Lengualima~~
