1. Rabbi's
yoel reuben ,   Israel   (01.02.11)
If religous leaders such as Rabbi's be a part of receiving stolen property and some Rabbi's be accused of rape then I have no faith in the religous leaders at all.
2. Subcontractors
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.02.11)
"The rabbi was aware of the fact that the gang he was in contact with was stealing the scrolls". It is racist to presume that Arabs could be thieves. Maybe the scrolls were not stolen, but counterfeited by an arab sofer?
3. To #1
Gedaliah   (01.02.11)
If this is your basis on rejecting God then I feel sorry for you.
4. To #3
Sheldon ,   U.S.   (01.02.11)
#1 wasn't rejecting God., just so-called religious leaders. It shows once again that many Orthodox think that their observance of ritual, kashrut, and "modesty" eliminates the need to follow inconvenient commandments such as "thou shalt not steal"
5. Funny Religious Rabbis you've : ))
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.02.11)
6. Good police work
Israeli grandma   (01.02.11)
But shocking that a "rabbi" would be part of this disgusting affair. I hope his community will throw him out of town!!
7. What a shame on you
Joav ,   Germany   (01.02.11)
they learn us to keep Mizvot, but behind our back they do a discusting think. Before this article I read that somewhere in the north of Israel was arrested anotherone Rabbi, who is accused to rape a 14 year old girl and trying to rape boys in Yeshiva. I hope that these "Rabbis" would sentence or executed like it stand in Torah. The only Rabbi I trust was a great Zadek Rav Meir Kahane. He and his fellows stand for Israel, Jews and for the real belief in our only Hashem.
8. Gedalia # 3 . No faith in the religious leaders
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.02.11)
This is not rejecting god .
9. A rabbi ? no , a criminal
Charles ,   Petachg Tikva   (01.02.11)
Even as a non believer , i can't imagine that a TRUE believing rabbi will act in this way . Or , am i so wrong ?
10. Rabbi? Leadership?
Shalom Hartman   (01.02.11)
Was he actually a qualified, Rabbi, that people turn to with halachic questions, or was he a rogue in Rabbi's uniform?
11. #5 You better watch you Imams&Sheikhs
Joav ,   Germany   (01.02.11)
what they do to children. In you place I would jjust shut up my mouth.
12. Just people!
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (01.02.11)
Rabbi's, political leaders and other's in leadership positions, are still just people. That means they are fallible, occasionally corrupt and biased. Just like you and me. So, how is this important? Blindly following a religious leader, political leader, or for that matter ANY leader is dangerous. Some assume (wrongly, naively) that the Ultra-religious are less corrupt, or are more morally driven than the secular population. No such truth exists, and we need to be more cognizant and less assuming.
13. 3 - are you equating religious leaders with god?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.02.11)
he doesn't mention god, but says he has no faith in religious leaders. is the association one you make or did you not read well?
14. Elad? Are you sure?
observer   (01.02.11)
The police say that he lives in Alei Zahav (wherever that is) and 'serves as a rabbi' there. I realise that your talkbackers are now all in a feeding frenzy, but perhaps they should wait to find out who and what this character is before they shoot off their mouths. Or doesn't that matter?
15. rabbis
The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (01.02.11)
It is too easy to get the title "rabbi".
16. Gedaliah #3
Ex-orthodox Jew ,   Israel   (01.02.11)
The rabbis or other religious leaders are not "God". The end of my religious observance was the moment when I realised they are just mortal men. Thus I don't need any rabbi to tell me what god thinks or not. There is a God, one common being that each religion calls with different names. None of the so-called holy books has been made by this entity - not even Torah - but they're written down and manipulated by mortal men. Amen.
17. WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH THESE RABBIS IN ISRAEL ?
BENJAMIN ,   SINGAPORE   (01.02.11)
THEFT- CBT OF ASSETS & INTERGRITY SEEMS UNOPPOSED AMONG THE RABBIS !!
18. Just having second thought
benjamin ,   singapore   (01.02.11)
You guy think these rabbis actula intention is to ensure the Torah dont fall into the wrong hands ? I know the rabbis are crazy and creative so full of tricks :-))) he ehehe eheh :-))))
19. No Suprise
American Jew2 ,   Tampa, FL, USA   (01.02.11)
We have a local chabad rabbi who cheated me out of $600 around 15 years ago. I took post dated checks for my work and he closed the bank account. I felt too embarresed for our tribe, to press charges. Yesterday, I met a recent victim of the chabad rabbi. An honest goy, who had been cheated by the same chabad rabbi. Maybe if i had pressed charges, the rabbi would have learned not to cheat his fellow men. I guess maybe this chabad rabbi fells that cheating other jews & goys helps him do more of G-d's work. The local jewish community knows of this chabad rabbi. We have not run him out of town nor have we compensated his victims. Oh well....
20. #19..That tells me, you're no better then your Chabad Rabbi!
Edithann ,   USA   (01.02.11)
I bet you'd feel better if it was just the 'goy' he cheated.... Just the fact he's still there, shows me how hopelessly helpless you are! TATA
21. Wouldn't you know, another rabbi crook
josef   (01.02.11)
As if we didn't have enough of them already. ----- stealing from the govt, stealing as a full time job, working with arab gangs, molesting children, some raping. Well, it looks like OUR millions spent by the govt for the purpose of anointing rabbis are bearing fruits. Keep up the good work Bibi. TO :# 5, Salma; agreed, our rabbis are not much different then your imams, your mullahs, your sheikhs; same parasites, same perverts, same rejects of humanity, all blessed by your allah.
22. To #1
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (01.02.11)
.if you're looking for inhuman, sinless walk-on-water piety, then you have the wrong religion ...
23. Rabbi leads
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.02.11)
This Rabbi's love for Torah is so great, that he aquires more and more Torahs.
24. In behalf of our Govt, I anoint a "Rabbi "
josef   (01.02.11)
TO # 15, last zionist.---- You are right, it's too easy to be titled 'rabbi' ( we need them like a hole in the head ). All is required are: black robe, black sombrero, white socks, and a book < any book will do, for what they are learning ! ! >. Phase two; a women, and make tons of babies ( the pleasant part ). Then our soft hearted govt kicks in with OUR money. --- Et voila, instant rabbi, a direct access to our treasury.
25. 9Charles You are not wrong.
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.02.11)
I enjoyed your smart comment.
26. Ynet's kind of "rabbis" are just that Ynet's rabbis
(01.02.11)
These "ynet rabbis" include reform rabbits and anyone sporting a beard. Leave it up to ynet to smeer the name of good orthodox Rabbis with ynet’s distorted reports, for the pleasure of Avi and Charles and the likes.
27. sounds like another ynet jab at religion
yoni ,   tel aviv   (01.02.11)
what kind of rabbi ? what community did he lead? ynet always looks for shots against religion. It'll turn out to be some guy with a beard who pretended to be religious in order to steal torah scrolls and ynet of course will enjoy the religion bashing all the way to the grave
28. Publish the names of the suspects
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.03.11)
The "rabbi" should have his hands chopped off like in saudi. The arab thieves should receive the death penalty for stealing Jewish property. Anyone coneected with this affair should have his name made public.
29. to #22, Moriah @ Sacramento
Howard Immanuelson ,   US   (01.03.11)
And what religion is composed of 100% adherents that are sinless with walk-on-water piety? I'd venture the answer is *none*. And you knew that but had to get the cheap shot in, didn't you?
30. I can wear a turban and call myself a sheik.
Michael ,   Toronto   (01.03.11)
I can wear a turbad and call myself a sheik. However, that alone doesn't make me a sheik. One needs to have followers. I suspect this rabbi was not really a rabbi.
