1. :: 363 days to go...
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.03.11)
Two unarmed Palestinian civilians have been killed so far this new year, neither posed a threat to the IDF. And some people wonder why Israel gets so much 'bad PR'?!
3. Who's our enemy?
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (01.03.11)
No wonder that israeli youngsters don't want to serve in the IDF.
4. Shot in Leg and still comming?
Len ,   Australia   (01.03.11)
Lets just stop the crap IDF demonizing and face reality. If someone approaches a no approachable zone and was warned to stop and didnt, then shot in the leg and kept coming, then the non-lethal action of guards has been crossed and thus lethal action occured. It has nothing to do with him "only" being armed with a bottle because he might also be strapping explosives. IDF cannot risk that can they?

does america and anto get bad pr when they slaughter innocent civilians in iraq and afghanistan, performed by your very usa army and those armies of other nato nations. now matty, why doesn't america get bad pr? why doesn't nato soldiers get bad pr. the usa army and nato armies slaughtered more innocent civilians in 8 years in both iraq and afghanistan than israel did since its birth. look at the statistics and you'll fnd out. american army and nato army DID NOT DO THIS KILLING FOR SELF DEFENSE. THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING IN THESE COUNTRIES TO BEGIN WITH. ISRAEL LIVES NEXT DOOR TO TERROR HARBORING COUNTRIES AND A TERRORISTIC SOCIETY. THEY NEED TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND IN DOING SO, MAKE MISTAKES AT TIMES. YES, AMERICA AND NATO GET AN OK PASS FROM YOU WHILE ISRAEL IS ALWAYS TO BLAME. YOUR OWN PERSONAL AGENDA???? AND BIAS???? I THINK SO! so, please spare us your humanistic side which counts for nothing while your people kill innocents abroad by the hundreds of thousands in just 8 short years. the amount killed by you people for no reason at all exceeds any amount you blame israel for. do yourself a favor, do not sink deeper into your "logic" and "concern" for others when you know nothing of what you are trying to say. you sound like a fake and a poor joke. not becoming of an american that sends his military into a foreign country to slaughter the innocents abroad and then has the temerity to blame those that fight for self defense. shame on you.

living in the usa in the safety and comfort of your area...it is easy to judge and throw stones. come here and live here and see why israelis do conscript into the army. as a matter of fact most want to go into the combat elite forces. the army has so many of them that no everyone is getting in. there is very minimal insignificant amount of males and females that do not want to go and it is not BECAUSE OF THESE KINDS OF INCIDENCES AT ALL.
7. moral of story: don't go though checkpoint with brocken bot
rachel ,   usa   (01.03.11)
bottle .Israel is in a state of constant war . War is no joke
8. to # 1
Yosef ,   Miami   (01.03.11)
Hmm, so when hamas plots to kill people at soccer games its good PR for Israel? or is anything that Israel does PR, i cant think of anything that Israel has done that was applauded by the world. even the Gaza pull out didn't get full support b/c it was a unilateral decision and many said it was not enough
9. Good allocation of resources
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (01.03.11)
The Israeli government does not have unlimited funding. The stated purpose of a security officer is to prevent terrorist attacks. The responsible offices have allocated their funds to those places more likely to be targeted. The one question that would settle this issue: how many Arab schools without security officers have been subject to terrorist attacks? The most likely answer is "NONE." (2nd try, 4 hours after the first)
10. I hate to say this ...
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (01.03.11)
but the soldiers did the right thing. "Unarmed" does not carry the same meaning in a world with explosive belts. (I know he didn't have one - but the soldiers _couldn't_ know) We take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but we are very grateful to the Almighty for protecting Israel by the hands of the IDF. (2nd try - 4 hrs after first, please excuse my repost sent a few seconds ago - that is a drawback of keeping posts on textpad because YNet takes multiple tries before agreeing to post my responses!)
11. This story is the exception but when the ....
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.03.11)
... situation is reversed, it's the rule. The majority of our soldiers have a strong and provable standard of ethics and high regard for human life. (including our enemies lives) Our enemies on the other hand strap bombs to their own children. Thus have little regard for even their own families lives. If these soldiers are proven to have murdered a civilian they will be punished by us. If it was a palestinian that killed an Israeli in cold blood he would be made a hero and people would be passing candy out in the streets. That is the major difference between our cultures and everyone should know it if they don't already.
12. answer to shalom #3 question
chaim.s ,   brooklyn n.y   (01.03.11)
our enemy,is the criminaly insane, traitorous self hating leftist's. Barak,Peres,Olmert, Livni, and the rest of pathetic cowardly leftist gang
13. 20/20 hindsight from armchair quarterbacks
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (01.03.11)
When you have a moment to make a decision, you make the best the call you can, it's that simple. Compared to the recent drive- by shootings by Hamas in two separate incidents that murdered 4 innocent civilians, what's the big deal.
14. Racism in Israel
Gazan   (01.03.11)
These soldiers were either bored or couldn't wait for an opportunity to shoot an Arab. When you have rallies against Arabs renting property and 'seducing' Jewish girls in Israel, it's no wonder these crimes are happening.
15. Happy new year with love from Israel
Ray ,   Us   (01.03.11)
16. To: 2 | Double standard
Ray ,   US   (01.03.11)
Israel killing Palestinian civilians is fact of war Palestinians killing Israel civilians is terrorism Now that makes perfect sense! He was shot 8 times, the young Israelis that serve in the west bank go to lose their souls
17. #2, but this is not WW2
GUH   (01.03.11)
You want to bring the world back to that deadly period? You are doing it right now with these dangerous comparisons. You really think shooting and killing a bunch of harmless people is going to solve anything? The first two world wars were primarily in Europe... looks like you are bringing your problems to the middle east...
18. Chaim, by your logic there are no Palestinian terrorists....
Cali Cal ,   Los Angeles, USA   (01.03.11)
I mean how else will they finally defeat their occupiers. All Israeli's are enemies, even civilians as you say. Since this is the case, I'm sure you understand why Hamas attacks civilians, right? Just saying.
19. he did this
g ,   jerusalem   (01.03.11)
because he knew this would happen. exactly the same in the U.S. when someone ignores the orders of a police officer to stop, and gets shot in the end, minus the political conflict. who ignores a security checkpoint and heads towards armed soldiers with a broken glass bottle in hand, ignoring all calls to stop? someone who knows that the backlash that will happen against Israel when he gets shot is more important to him than his own life.
20. let arabs make israel safer too!!
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.03.11)
It is no joke, it is Arabs who are responsible for 98% of terror attacks and of attacks for which there is no reason except hate of Jews. Let the arabs practice their claim (perhaps: lie) that Islam is the religion of peace...
21. # 3
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.03.11)
WRONG. The majority of our youngsters cant wait to join the IDF.
22. *broken* bottle, not simply bottle, ynet
yehuda ,   israel   (01.03.11)
The writer of this article and/or his editor is biased.
23. A broken glass bottle is not unarmed.
Michael ,   Toronto   (01.03.11)
Listen to soldiers when they tell you to stop. Especially if you are carrying a knife, a sharp piece of glass, a jug of any sort, or a broken bottle. It is unfortunate that he was killed. In an ideal world he would only have been shot in the leg.
24. maybe using a taser gun, instead of bullet into the leg... ?
eporue ,   europe   (01.03.11)
25. To #23
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (01.03.11)
Not just in an ideal world. That was the soldiers' intention after he refused to heed their order to stop. Even the biased reporting in this article shows this: "Even after being shot in the leg, he did not lie down as he was ordered." The more I read of this, the more likely it seems that this person wanted to become a so-called "martyr". In the US, his behavior is commonly known as "suicide by cop". Imagine his chagrin when he gets to his afterlife to find that his 72 virgins are all men in their 30's who live in mom's basement and want to play WoW all day ...
26. @14, look who is speaking
Eyal   (01.03.11)
The punishment for renting appartment or selling it in the PA for jews is death. The punishment for dating a jewish guy by arab girl is death. Jews, however, are "racists"... yeah right...
27. Why the deceiving headline?
Jay3 ,   Israel   (01.03.11)
This wasnt the case of an innocent Palestinian just slain as the headline infers. He was armed with a weapon....a broken bottle. And he could of been carrying a suicide belt for as far as the soldiers knew.....the suspicion was warranted seeing as he refused to stop after being shot in the leg. Shame on the editors at YNet for allowing such a biased headline! The author should be reprimanded or sacked!
28. A man charging toward the IDF
Yehuda   (01.03.11)
who was born to hate Jews, trained since childhood how to kill with his bare hands, was given warning shots to stop and refused those warnings. Is there any wonder why he got shot?
29. I would do the same....
Reuben S ,   Tel Aviv   (01.03.11)
I dont think the soldiers acted wrongly. The soldier felt threatened that he my be a suicide bomber and he opened fire. His colleagues felt he is under attack and they opened fire. I serve in the reserve and will do the same if I am threatened. Our lives and our health are too precious to us and to our familys. Living a life without an eye or leg is not an option, I will rather shoot and save myself and my fellow soldiers.
30. Yehuda #28
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (01.03.11)
Try to imagine that you are Palestinian and you are reading your sentences. Isn't it enough to hate you?
