1. What they really need to do so as to stem this plague
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (01.06.11)
is ascend the Temple Mount and sacrifice a goat or two.
2. Public transportation on weekends would help!
John ,   Be'er Sheva,Israel   (01.06.11)
If there were public transportation on weekends, then there would be less private citizens driving and less accidents! If they really cared, they would allow that! Instead, I can't go visit my wife, who is sick in a hospital in another city now, on the weekends because I have no way to get there, I can't afford to take cabs that far!
3. Prayers may help but the way to stop the slaughter
Al   (01.06.11)
is thru the pocketbook. All cars involved in traffic accidents wherein the driver was found to be intoxicated (either thru drugs or alcohol) must be impounded and not returned but sold and all proceeds given to the government. If you caught driving drunk (no accident) an immediate fine of $5000 plus 30 days jail along with car being impounded.License is withdrawn immediately for 5 year period.License returned only after retraining. Once strike and you are out..Zero Tolerance. If you are found driving without a valid license the car is impounded as well and heavily fined..Min 30 days at $100.00/day impound fee. Driving without a license or registration,,an immediate fine of 1000.00 for the person involved..Payment on the spot with debit card or immediate jail till payment made. Any extra days in Jail, a surcharge of $150/day. Increase road taxes (500%) on all private vehicles including company issued ones. Adopt these very tough punishments and vehicle fatalities will be become a thing of history.
4. Enforce the law
Shalom ,   Ashdod, Israel   (01.06.11)
Hire enough police to patrol the highways and streets. Stop the drivers that zig-zag from lane to lane and cut in front of other drivers as if they own the road. Ticket the motorcycle riders who go between cars as if they are pedestrians only to get to the front of the line at a traffic stop. It is not funny at all. Stop people who walk in the streets as cows and cross at pedestrian crossing WITHOUT ever looking to see if the street is clear. Then and only THEN will our prayers be heard.
5. prayers or knowledge ?
yehuda avner ,   tel aviv   (01.06.11)
dont they about the dangers re. safety on roads-and texting -without the rabbis having to make a pesak--
6. RABBI SHLOMO AMAR
benjamin ,   singapore   (01.06.11)
most of you dont know how to behave on public highways....dont pull G-d into human stupidity .these days you rabbis sound like the xtians...blaming the devil for all self- made troubles ! Israeli are bad road users, THAT IS ALL !
7. Wow, so the rabbis are for traffic safety...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (01.06.11)
and I suppose tomorrow they will come out for 'daylight'. I suppose they must pray for daylight otherwise the sun won't shine.
8. "an appeal to God to put an end"....
Harry ,   Jerusalem   (01.06.11)
With all due respect to the Rabbis, but PLEASE!!!! What do you want from God???? What is plaguing this country is its people who are ME! ME! ME! ONLY ME! ME! ME!. What is a prayer going to do. If anything, pray that God will give these people the ability to LOOK beyond themselves and show respect for someone else. That is the plague here. Not the driving. Again, looking at the peripheral, and not at the ROOT cause. THE PEOPLE!!! not the cars, the roads. When twice I almost got run over in a Cross Zone, because twice, 2 ass whole drivers, went in the opposite lane of the medium of the cross zone, because there was a car who did stop properly in the cross zone and he was in a rush. The non caring element in people is pathetic. There are millions of Laws on the Books, but no one to enforce them. PERIOD. We are living in a Lawless society. Talk is cheap, but if you want to solve REAL ISSUES, start putting REAL LAW ENFORCEMENT on the roads. Yes, it will hurt many peoples pockets, but with time, people will think twice before they do something stupid. This article must be a joke. It is hard to believe, the Chief Rabbis really think a prayer at the accident site will help. What good is after the fact.
9. They put stumbling blocks in the road. Unsafe choose death.
Josh   (01.06.11)
The violation of Devarim 4:2 will cause more harm than all the issues they address. No adding! They should learn and teach Torah. I don't think they care if one learns real Moses texts. Thus I don't think they really care about our safety.
10. 8 Harry
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.06.11)
Why do people have to criticize everything the Rabbis do.Their aim is to raise awareness of drivers on the roads, and also to ask G-D s help. What is bad with that?Seculars need law enforcement. The orthodoxe listen to their Rabbis. No punishment needed.Chief Rabbis think:Help yourself, and G-D will help you.
11. The rabbis are right to try to reduce road accidents
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.07.11)
by making people aware of the dangers .But prayers will NEVER help because there is "nothing" listening to them . Not only seculars need law enforcement , religious are'nt obeying the laws either . Stay at a road crossing and you will see . Drivers have to become more responsible ones , more polite and less egoists , leave their home on time [ not on the latest minute ]
12. Nothing listening above
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.11)
Some fine guy here, is trying desesperately to convince himself that there is nothing listening above,by repeating it,again and again.I hope that one day ,he will be tired of doing that, and let it go.The jewish nature is to believe in G-D,and those who do that, have lots of inner strength and love ,and their Shabat is an oasis of joy and peace in the middle of sometimes difficult weekdays.Shabat Shalom to some nice TBer of Petah Tikva(door of hope) and all Jews.
13. Only "simplets" need a god
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.07.11)
I wiull repeat it again and again , till all those who believe in this BS of an existing god will see that they were always told nice tales .
14. "Simplets" salute the genius.
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.07.11)
The genius believes in himself, and has limits. The so called "simplets" , believe in G-D . G-D has no limits. Who is better off?
15. Great , you have two "no limits" now
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.08.11)
your god and human stupidity that has "no limits" too .They fit very well together .
16. Human stupidity begins with human birth
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.08.11)
and ends with human death. This is to difficult to understand for a genious, because of his limits.
17. They fit very well together"
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.08.11)
When i argue with some one,all i ask,is that he respects my believes.
18. Ora 17 , we are again monopolysing
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.11)
I respect you as a person . Your tolerance and altruisme deserve it . But how can i respect a belief when i read some articles and see some actions in name of the same [ ? ] belief . If you were the only here who is believing , your religion would deserve the most respect . But sad to say , there are others who show a very different image . I have to thank you for your nice words . Please don't take everything i write too seriously , i love to "charrier" [ is there an english word for this ? ] people .
19. 18 Charles
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.09.11)
No words could make me more happy, than the ones you wrote. As for monopolizing,i confide in the Ynet people, that if my comments disturb, they will censor them. They do a good job. I enjoy very much commenting here, but if you prefer to communicate on my email address,i will of course answer you with pleasure. I don t mind you teasing me,as long as you respect my believes. There i have zero sense of humor. I liked the way you answered to Al. Very classy. I think Al is not a bad guy.But by negating our belief ,you touch a very sensible cord.People get even more nasty, than by negating the shoa. You can say without any problem that you don t believe in G-D,but to state His non existence,is very hard for believers to hear.I am quiet sure that if you did realize that, you would have expressed your self differently. Your innerself is a great guy. The best of the religion is in one s heart. That s why i think we are on the same side.Keep well.
20. SIdewalks of Tel Aviv
Balz Eist ,   Greenwood Village US   (05.12.11)
During my visits to Israel I always enjoy walking the beautiful brick sidewalks of Tel Aviv. People in the cafes at night seem so very happy and we in the USA could learn much about enjoying life from the people of Israel. I still laugh when I am walking up the sidewalk on a Tel Aviv street and a motorcycle roars past me on the sidewalk. In fact I have had cars pass me on the sidewalk. It strikes me as very funny and cute how Israeli people are uninhibited and enjoy themselves. Long live Israel and its great carefree people.
