The Torah does not contain any conversion requirements. The first known convert is Ruth in the Book of Ruth. All the rules, complications, classes etc. came afterwards and were usually developed to prevent some perceived danger to the Jewish people. Therefore, claiming that recognizing any type of conversion as being against the holy torah is just not correct. What is really at stake is the usurpation of power from the chief rabbinate. Due to our unfortunate history we should let anyone who wants to be a Jew be a Jew, his commitment to religious practice should be a matter of personal choice not a forced requirement.

What has been set down in Scripture is much simpler than we find today. Also, the various 'streams' of Judaism weren't around then so there was only one set of rules. Found in Hebrew Scripture: All pagan beliefs and practices were to be renounced. All males of the household, including slaves, had to be circumcised. Both men and women were expected to adopt the beliefs and practices of the Jewish People - as set down in Scripture.
