They should go heckel their Arab neighbors for burning down half or Northern Israel.

The last time a leader with pretensions to prestige and popularity was caught on camera looking this stunned was George Bush junior being told of the attacks on 9/11

Avi ,   Israel   (01.05.11)
I dont know how that man sleeps at night 43 dead and he could have prevented it,. Slowly people are waking up to this evil man who obviously has no shame. Dont just leave the hall keep going all the way to the airport, i would personally pay for his ticket to morroco.

Bibi is a smart guy (sometimes). Shas is going to bring Likud down. Stipend Reform Now! Working Israelis are tired of carrying able bodied men who refuse to work. Isn't there a hospital bed shortage in Ashkelon? Cut the Orthodox budget to buy new beds!
8. Why not blame the arsonist, the Al Qaeda operative, since
Rivkah   (01.05.11)
al Qaeda claims to have started the fire? The lack of equipment is being remedied by the fire and that tragedy. You would think Eli Yishai started the fire to be treated so badly at a funeral. The screamer should have been arrested and escorted out of the room for disorderly conduct, not the MInister.
9. YISHAI MUST BE THROWN OUT OF GOVERNMENT
stude ham   (01.05.11)
NOT JUST THIS MEETING ... yishai was responsible for the security of the carmel forests ... but his interests were focused on the most useless wastes of tax monies ever seen.

Rachel ,   US   (01.06.11)
Rivkah, as hot as it gets in Israel and with all the forest area, NOT having fire repellent is unacceptable, pure negligence. Yishai ran a Keystone Fire Department that cost many lives. If I was at that memorial mourning a family member I don't think I could bear the sight of Yishai either.
13. Just like the time before Rabin's murder
Nick ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (01.06.11)
This is very disturbing and should not be allowed to continue. The hatred focused on observant Jews has been mounting, and this incident shows that many in the anti-religious camp are willing to take the next step beyond mere shouting. It is likely that some muddleheaded scion of the Israeli Marxist klatch will imitate the mistaken actions of Amir, encouraged to do his or her deed by the storm of demonization in the Marxist press.

Birdi ,   Israel   (01.06.11)
Where on earth did you get the idea that al Qaida started the Carmel fires? Thats not the truth, thats pure fantasy. Funeral? what funeral are you talking about. The dead were buried some time ago. oh dear you do have your wires crossed.
15. Rivka is totally confused
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.06.11)
I agree with Michael from Haifa. Your comments make me wonder why there such a great injustice in this world that leaves some people so deprived of compassion, of intelligence, of any kind of healthy perception? How can you be angry at people who lost everything in this terrible fire and support the minister who is fully responsible? Please, go out and pray a lot. The solstice is in March and some stars may listen.
16. ishai

he should stay at home or also go to jail. he is a criminal. he is irresponsible and is only concerned with his salary, his car and his chair. the country does not interest him at all. now we have seen the TRUE face of the shas leader.

planet you come from? No one has a problem with observant Jews. In one way or another, we are all observant Jews. Even the rice I buy in the supermarket, even the salt is kosher, how much more observant can you get. What we have a problem with is the yeshiva and kollel-sitting, draft-dodging, public fund-sucking, non-working parasites. Whether they come from Morocco and whine all the time about discrimination or from the hatzerot in Mea Shearim and throw dirty diapers at policemen, they are all cut from the same useless cloth.
19. Michael, Birdi, Rachel: The screamer sent his lover to hell,
Rivkah   (01.06.11)
not the fire. They were living in sin and he could have covered the sin by giving her his name in marriage to be right before YHWH. The fire was not the worst that happened to his partner. Her soul entered eternal fire and eternal separation from YHWH for unrepented sexual immorality. Minister Eli Yishai is not the first person in Israel in his position. Requests for funding of fire fighting equipment was unheeded by government officials since 1948 because there were so many other pressing issues to consider that needed funding, like feeding and housing the poor and military defense and a thousand other needs of the State and its people. The fire was put out in days instead of weeks which is incredible. In California it is routine for 500 or more homes and businesses to burn before a fire is put out with all the firefighting equipment California has. The attack on Minister Eli Yishai is an attack on the office and an attack on YHWH since there is no power of authority except of God. To hold a Minister of Israel responsible for the actions of Al Qaida that admitted responsibility for setting the fire in the Western Press is wrong. But as long as Israel is in the firefighting equipment mode, I hoipe they buy a fireline shower business that provides shower trucks for firefighters available for sale in California by Linda Van Asperen at P.O. Box 2227, Paradise, California 95967.
20. sad
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.06.11)
Sad that a widower uses his personal tragedy to make political gain. The failure to fight the fire was the fault of Olmert, Livni and Halutz who stopped using IDF helicopters to extinguish fires. The reason the 43 died was because a police commander ignored the firefighters' warning and allowed the bus to enter a road that should have been closed.
21. lynch....
aline silverman ,   israel   (01.06.11)
Qhat people now are doing to Ishai is LYNCHING...I do not say that Eli Ishai is a genius and I do not say that he hasn't got a part of responsibility but CALL HIM A CRIMINAL is a bit much....Those who do nothing can't make mistakes contrary to people who try at least. What about the responsibility of those who sent those unfortunate soldiers on that particular road???? It is obvious the there were other ways to remove prisoners from that jail since it was eventually done. Why this particular road??? human mistake ? ok....Funds alloted to the fire department haven't been enough for 60 years. In fact Eli Ishai did fight for an increase...The money hasn't arrived WHY? Some of the posts here are very violent and scary !
22. #20 every word is true
observer   (01.06.11)
Even the best administered reaction could not micro-manage every individual on the ground. The mistake made by the police commander is nobody's fault but his alone. Yishai's role or non-role have nothing to do with the fate of the marxist jerks girlfriend.
23. Oh dear! Bibi and Eli's photo-op went to hell.
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (01.06.11)
In the US MainStreamMedia, the comments range from hilarious to vicious. All heads of state deserve the occasional pie in the face routine... it keeps their feet on the ground.

26. Wise words from the Rabbis
eli fendrich ,   nahariya Israel   (01.06.11)
To focus rage at Eli Yishai is so, well it's so Israeli. Let's find someone, anyone to blame and do it in a way that is so divisize -- the more insulting the better. What do we get from this? A better society? And what, Eli Yishai caused the fire? Or changed long standing Israeli policy to ignore the potential for a disastrous forest fire? Our government structure is inadequate. We need a Federal system with "State-like" regions. So that a "State" that contained the Carmel forest would be able to plan based on its unique local needs -- and a real plan for what if there was a fire. But to blame the Interior Minister and do it in such a nasty, insulting way? Really my fellow Israelis isn't it time we started behaving like we really all want to live here together.
27. Of course Ishai is accountable
hot as hades ,   not florida   (01.07.11)
In an age of desertification, with fires regularly raging in the Mediterranean basin (in recent years Spain, southern France, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, etc.), there will only be more and more severe fires as the soil dries out. Criminal negligence is also a crime.
