39. Arab family members often kill Jewish wives or girlfriends
Jo ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.10.11)
A 17 year old daughter of a neighbor of mine in Bat Yam, Ziva Godovsky fell in love with an Arab man, and even had an Arab traditional wedding dress ready for their marriage ended up being murdered by her fiancee's cousins and he might have had a part in it. They strangled her, bashed in her skull and burnt her body. Another Jewish woman, the only child of Holocaust survivors, was murdered in Gaza after she married an Arab man. Rafik is right to be very cautious about letting his family members know about his relationship with a Jewish woman. Jo - Jerusalem.
40. Why'd you have make things so complicated?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.10.11)
Dana loves Rafiq and Rafiq loves Dana, It's that simple ; )
41. #28 Rami Judaism is not
Yossef   (01.10.11)
a religion, or it is in the etymologic sense: something which "rely" people together. Judaism is a civilization, a tribe, a nation, a people, a citizenship. Christianity and islam are religions. I'm certainly not religious, I mean not that religious, but I'm jewish, certainly. Long time ago in Canaan a people of peasants and shepherds settled and decide to live and prosper in towns. They couldn't live the way nomads lived: raping, killing, robbing for food or whatever, so they decide to live according to laws insuring a social stability betweens different families, this law is the Torah. This is how they separate themselves from the surrounding nomad tribes, and this is how the people of Israel is born. The ritual was the cohesion force which maintained this people together. After that, this people has been dispersed all over the world by romans, and they lost everything, their only link was the Torah and the israeli way of life, and that is History. don't misunderstand: we are a people, a nation גוי ישראל
42. a snake is snake indeed
to danna ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
b careful danna or you will suffer the consequence
43. David in LA and Dovid in Israel and Rafi 28
Ari ,   Romania Israel   (01.10.11)
David and Dovid both have half truths and are a little mixed up. Rabeinu Gershom made a Herem a 1000 years ago for 1000 years theoretically it ended. But this has become the common custom and customs become laws.. As for the Sfardic comunities. It is a mistake to say all Sfardics have one minhag. For example Italian Jews have their own Minhag very different from the Syrian Jewish Minhag. or the Morrocan Minhag The use today of the term Sphardic is to differentiate from Ashkenazim. Who also have different Minhagguim. (the Ashkenaz Minhag and the Hassidic minhag called MInhag Sfarad etc not mentioning the Conservative and REform Mingaguim which are mostly Ashkenazi. In the Sphardic case as far as I know only Jews from Yemen and Persia in the last century had two wifes, even though I am sure there was no limit, King David had more than two so did Salomon and that was after Matan Torah. I did not mention Abraham or Yaacov because that was before Matan Torah and laws differed. After the reborn of the State of Israel and with the comming of Jews from Persia and Yemen this custom was abolished. The ones that came with two wifes it was a" fait acompli". But for sure today this is not permited specially in Israel, which is the case we are dealing with. To Rami 28. You answered clearly a Jewish woman can Marry a Muslim. What about the other way arround you omited? OR IS IT FORBIDEN. This double talk is what's helding also the real peace process. One thing is what Abbas tells the world and one what he says in the Mosques. As for this article it is clear that in Rafiks case more than in Dana's(not that she is of the hook) this relationship is far from being approved. Dana is very Naive. This intermariage problem with Muslims is very serious not only with Jewish Girls, look all arround the world most of the guys end back in their home countries and ensalves their wifes or just fly away taking the children with them.
44. to #41 Yossef
Dovid ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
Yossef, the Toah was given by G-d, and Judaism IS a religon. This 'history' you spout: i.e. "Long time ago etc." is just a unch of FABRICATIONS you made up. If the Toah is only to 'insure social stability between different families', as you claim, then why are a large amount of the commandments about loving G-d and serving Him? Or did you edit that part out HARAV Yossef (sarcasm intended).
45. #31 Avi
Richard ,   Swansea Wales   (01.10.11)
NO......... It proves that most talkbackers would like to have some pride in their Jewish Identity. Avi, you for one are sadly, very embarassed of your Jewish Identity. Love stories are sweet when they are real. Think about it, have you ever heard of a love story which was about a married couple? This is a fantasy love story, this is not real life. They do not share the same internal values, so at the moment the relationship is floating on thin ice. And i am talking purely from a psychological prospective. But certainly it would be nice if their values became aligned so that they could buid a mature relationship.
46. Yoni shame on you!
טובי ,   תל אביב & Stockholm   (01.10.11)
How can you write such a racist comment about this love!? Don't you see love has no borders and unfortunatelly not even racism. Because we find it now among even Jews obviously. What happened to the country that was founded on such good intentions and ideals. We do not need this hatred you declare aswell as arabs declare towards interreligious love. It belongs to stone age. If Israel would have made more difference and fully assimilated both jews and arabs to become israelis these arguments you use would not have been possible. I love Israel for pluralism, for defeating the stupid ancient norms that does not belong to a humanity. long live Israel but without racism!
47. to #31 not racist, the women status in bedouins
ghostq   (01.10.11)
society is not good, especially when cultur wise she might not be the only women in the relationship, the guy is bedouin, according to his cultur women got no legal status what so ever, it all good and nice in the begining but when relationship isn't bed of roses, which can and will make it imposible, as for the offspringes, what religion will they be? according to judaism is by the mother according to islam is by the father, and just in case the families will battle over the children it can turn really ugly, in which they r going to suffer, they probably won't be accepted by jews or by muslims since they r not entirly from the background, I have read about a kid that was send to institution case his jewish mother didn't want him and his father was dead he ended up in the streets and was too old for adoption, sad to say but this is reality.
48. to #45 (giggle) he is proud allright but not in his jewish
ghostq   (01.10.11)
identity, hahahaha
49. Why it will not last
Richard ,   Swansea Wales   (01.10.11)
sadly the entire focus of the relationship is about what we're not. i.e. it is not one of those which are just about sex, or just about money, they are not camel riders etc... Who are you Dana? Who are you Rafiq? What makes you suited for one another? Psychologically when a people are constantly focused on the "not", that is what the basis is. As much as she may be claiming verbally she is not rebelling. She is rebelling to high heavens. It's like those people who use affirmations and repeatedly say "I'm not angry, I'm not angry"... I suggest move to Jenin if you want to prove you're not rebelling, not bloody Holy Safed.
50. Courageous
Meret   (01.10.11)
Given the intolerance on this talkback, I suggest they move to another country if they want to marry. I admire their courage.
51. #44 Dovid (!?) David seems to me more jewish
Yossef   (01.11.11)
Don't get offense but you are a little bit to simplistic. As would have said Rav Hillel: "Go and study!". :-)
52. Salma, I prefer when you talk
Yossef   (01.11.11)
about love than about politic, you are more credible ;)
53. Yossef...
Dovid   (01.14.11)
I have studied. In fact, forgive me for jumping to conclusions, but I think that I HAVE studied much more in his area than you have. This "As Rav Hillel would have said..." is yet another instance of you taking something out of context to prove a non-existent point. Hillel (Not Rav Hilel, this is a disgrace to him due to the fact that names such as 'Hillel', 'Shamai' denote more respect than 'Rav Hillel' and 'Rav Shamai'), never said "Go and study", rather he said to a convert who wanted to learn Judaism while standing on one foot (That is a euphemism for very quickly). Hillel replied "Don't do what your friend what is hateful to you, the rest is commentary. Go learn." This was not intended to be, as you intend, a disparaging remark. Rather it was a go-ahead to learn Judaism. Please do not confound innocent minds with your shtuyot (foolish acts). BTW: What makes me simplistic? You made absolutely no reply to my numerous questions, just a boorish insult, and as such I am led to believe that you have no answer, which means I win. Thanks for playing :)
54. To "m" # 27
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.15.11)
1.) you spelt my name wrong 2.) Racism is a disease, (you should get that cured). The Torah says "god made man kind in his image" and NOT god made the Jews and Gentiles separately. (if you believe in that stuff). Therefore all Jews have gentile blood in them. And science says that humans share 99% of their genes with flies and horses and even more genes with other primates. You should also know that I have no love for Islam. If I do ever have kids and one falls in love with an Arab I don't have a problem with that as long as that Arab is a sane rational good hearted respectable human being. If you have a problem with that, then you are the problem.
55. MAY GOD BLESSES THEM
Alicia Cohen ,   Santiago de Chile   (01.19.11)
What a beautiful story! What horrible talkbackers! Dont listen to this primitive people who condemn this beautiful story. They must be unhappy people, full of hatred, lonely and desperate. They simply envy stories like this. Dana and Rafik are a ultra modern, trendy, romantic couple than can redeem this conflict. Only in Israel it is still possible to see racist people. Just take a ride in the subway in Paris, London, Buenos Aires and you will see people mixing happly. Those Israelis racists should be have Prozac prescription paid by the State and live Rafic and Dana alone, in their nest, happily foerever. KOL HA KAVOD RAFIC, MABRUK DANA.
56. What a selfish Loose woman.
Eli ,   Israel   (03.01.13)
It would be one thing if a Jew living outside of Israel fell victim to intermarriage but for this abomination to happen in Israel should be considered outrageous and unacceptable. There should be no excuses for these behaviors in Israel, Ynet should be ashamed for promoting it.
