1. what peace?why ruined?
Jennie ,   US/ISrael   (01.09.11)
What is the purpuse of this article ? Could be anything more natural and uneventfuly normal, then a demolition of an old Jewish owned building on the legal Jewish owned Israeli land for a purpose of building a new building for peaceful purpuses in the city of Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish State. ??!! How long will we continue caring what the other side/our enemies have to say ! Why would we, Mr.Altman want to invite discussions and plant doubts in the hearts of weaki leftist Jews and invite more terror inticements on the pali side ?!
2. Alleged "Judaization of east Jerusalem"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.09.11)
Some people choose to forget that Jerusalem was created as the Jewish capital of a Jewish land three thousand years ago, and still was so a thousand years later. In modern times, Jerusalem has had a MAJORITY JEWISH population since at least the 1860s according to a British census of the time. Many of the areas now deemed "Arab" were once Jewish neighborhoods. So why is restoring a Jewish presence to an area that was deliberately cleansed of Jews from 1948-1967 deemed "Judaization"?
3. Like tearing down Theodor Herzl house
Ali ,   Washington, DC   (01.09.11)
4. head line
james ,   uk   (01.09.11)
The reason why peace is ruined is the headline in itself...End of.
5. No limits for Jewish construction anywhere in our land.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.09.11)
We should accept absolutely no limits for Jewish construction anywhere in Israel, including all of Judea and Samaria. This land is ours. Period. Nobody freezes construction in their own land.
6. ruined?
dudu ,   il   (01.09.11)
If building in our only capital means ruining any chance for peace then there was never a chance for peace in the first place. And don't get me wrong. I am against building in the west bank. But have no problem building in my capital
7. Like tearing down Jewish Medina houses
Bali ,   Mecca, DA   (01.09.11)
8. The irony of the situation
Israeli   (01.09.11)
The same Israelis who claim that Jews should live in East Jerusalem also want to stop Arabs from living in Jewish communities. The same Palestinians who call Israelis racist because they don't want Arabs in their communities, don't want Jews to buy land in their communities, I know the situation is not that simple. I am just pointing out the irony here.
9. Build, build, build!!!
Steven ,   San Francisco   (01.09.11)
This is a very positive step in a very positive direction. Build throughout the land!!
10. WHY all the fuss
JUDAH THE LION   (01.09.11)
The building was bought 25 years ago by Jewish. The new owner can decide what he wants to do with the property.
11. You can't ruin what never was or will be
zoog ,   US   (01.09.11)
Every Arab group states it very plainly that they don't want an Israel anywhere in the middle east. They are willing to wait even generations until Israel is destroyed. Until this mindset changes, "peace negotiations" will be fruitless.
12. To Chaim
Luiz Felipe Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (01.09.11)
Dear Chaim, Palestine doesn't belong to Israel into her all territory. In 1948, there was a partition by an United Nation's resolution, that was accepted by the Jewish State. I am sure Israel, whose traditions are the best ones, will never erase her honour, violating the International Law. The 1948 frontiers, of course, must be changed in some parts, because Israel was attacked and defended herself with triumph. But not in the essence. Don't fight radicalism and hate with the same. Two States, with security for both, are the only valid solution for peace. Salute from a true friend of your people.
13. don't be so ignorant
Nawar ,   Canada   (01.09.11)
"an old jewish owned building" "the legal jewish owned israeli land"???this piece of land and this hotel belongs to the husseini family, they bought it, built the hotel, then got expelled from their homeland, the land was confiscated illegally by israelis and then sold. how can they sell property that already belongs to someone. how would u like it, if some invading government kicks you out of your home, and then sells it to someone else, who then demolishes. there's nothing natural or normal about that. get ur facts straight and stop spreading lies to justify the crimes of israel towards the original inhabitants of the land, the palestinian. fyi, palestine was a muslim, christian & jewish country before israel was founded on the basis of ethnic cleansing and wiping out the muslims and christians that inhabit the holy land.
14. peace
alexsei   (01.09.11)
so peace ruined because jews reclaim bought for ancestral alnd-good. What peace are you talking about-the 29 hebron massacre where over 100 jews were killed. Israelis have to have some physical confidence and raison d'etre. For example, Bibi is 1000X better than olmert but its not enough to be PM if you cannot make a decision as landau charged. And you don't make concessions to please obama or beilini or abbas. it has to be good for israel. So the situation now is that its up to abbas to recognize the jewish state of israel,to forget about refugees, If he doesn't act there is no peace. And abdullah yelling from Jordan and haretz bleeding its heart is irrelevant. And that's it. If someone wants to start up, israel will respond. And kick ashton and airfairy tony blair out of israel everytime they show up withtheir political science solutions. Europe is scared to death of its own arabs and israel learns no lessons from their collection of olmerts.
15. Luiz Felipe Haddad #12 just some facts
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.09.11)
First it was General Assembly Resolution. They are called RECOMMENDATIONS and have no authority. Second every single Arab group and nation rejected it. End of the resolution right there. Third the resolution violated the UN Charter hence is illegal under international law. Fourth the Arabs didn't claim the land until 1968 - the year AFTER we liberated. Fifth building another terrorist nation will never provide any sort of peace. Our land and the illegal Arab squatters already have 99.93% of the land in the Middle East - we want our 0.07%.
16. A monument to Amin El Hussein
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (01.09.11)
Who tried to emulate the Nazi's methods of exterminating the Jews of Palestine He went to Germany to learn their methods, returned to Palestine to implement Husseini recruited Arab volunteers that Germany then used to help run their concentration camps
17. #13 Nawar, exactly right!
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (01.09.11)
After Israel occupied East-Jerusalem in 1967 the estate was expropriated by Israel invoking the 1950 Absentee Property Law. It is nothing but legal theft. The Custodian of the Absentee Property, i.e. Israel sold it to Moscowitz's company in 1985, which it had no right to do. Why else call yourself Custodian of Absentee Property?? To illustrate that this "law" is nothing but a figleaf for blatant theft, it is worth to mention that the Husseini family was NEVER ABSENT FROM JERUSALEM!
18. Right to build on own land
John ,   Wellington NZ   (01.10.11)
so the owner of the land and building decided to replace the building - that's called private property rights and those who object to it should mind their own business. I don't hear anyone moaning about Muslims building in the West bank on their private property. This really is an inane news item.
19. to#12
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (01.10.11)
With friends like you, Luiz Hadad, Israel and Jews don't need enemies... Your talking about the 1948 UN resolution is like hearing the bell without a clue where it comes from...Don't blame Israel for defending their land and borders since day one of their inseption..In 1948 the palis received a huge chunk of land for their own state, which is todays Jordan, for palestinian people...Ater the war of Yom Kipur in 1973, when all the arab countries attacked Israel, the arab refugees arriving to gaza, occupied by victorious Israel, created the first refugee camp...They numbered no more then 200-300 then and over several years grew into hundreds of thousands and callled themselves palestinian people and today they number over1.5 mil., have their autonomy and are prospering very well in Gaza with Israel's constant assistance in energy, water, medical needs,etc.. All this, while they are continuing the terror activities against Israel daily...They could have had their statehood 30 years ago, regardless to the fact, that they already received it in 1948. But they don't want it in Gaza, nore in WB. They want it instead of Israel....And You and other people, who are blind to history and to unfolding events over 65 years don't want to admit it...Well, it is too bad for you, but don't try to passify those who are wide awake... .I lived a big chunk of that history right there and you can't lie here, not to me....Israel wants to live in peace on their legal ancient land. You need to explain what part of land do you call palestinian and by what international law...Because somehow I never read one or remember one being published....
20. what chance was that?
dante ,   uk   (01.10.11)
have the palis ever taken advantage of any chance...except, after the fact, to declare that a chance was missed and the Israelis are to blame?
21. To Jenny
Luiz Felipe Haddad   (01.10.11)
Dear Jenny, I regret your aggressive answer to my humble comment. As a Brazilian Christian, from Arabic ascendence, I have defended the rights of Israel since y was a teenager, like I did in 1967, during 6 days war. The Jewish State's independence and security are too important for me. I visited Israel, last November, and my admiration for her increased more yet. My opinion above may be erred, but my goal is only a honoured peace among your nation and Arab Palestine. Then, take me as a friend, not as an ennemy. God bless you and your family.
22. 1812 my family & ancester joined existing Jewish prescence
Martin ,   SA   (01.10.11)
in East Jerusalem amoungst other parts of our Holy land. We have lived in East Jerusalem from time immemorial. No jurisdiction removed or caused us to absent until Jordan in '49 till '67. It is we who were absent from our own land despite the Turks and the British or Jordan. Please realise it was the arabs and the mufti whom tried to dispossess us of our land. We are back. Suddenly you want to steal our land again. There is lots of land in the west. IE Jordan Iraq Iran. Its time the illegal claims are sorted out The EU and all other concerned countries, please re-focus. We are busy inhabiting our rightful land just as you all proudly do in your land. We dont need your interferance. Disrupting Peace is a convenient phrase to use. The Arabs have stated time and again they will talk the talk but please, they dont negotiate Politicians please stop stuttering and blabbering about stuff you all know now, ITS OURS we intend to assert our rights progressively. If its hurtful and frustrating to observe so be it. There are no negotiations even Abbas is trying to pull the wool over south americas eyes. He wants to steal our land. He has no legal rights to do what he is trying to do. Hillary dont use us out when you prance around Asia. Your politician have directed you. Dont abuse your democtatic ellectorate directive to you. Accept the vote even though it buggs you. That which is illegal needs re-dress. Justice denied....
23. #13 Nawar

Please answer these questions about "Palestine" in this forum: 1. When was it founded and by whom? 2. What were its borders? 3. What was its capital? 4. What were its major cities? 5. What constituted the basis of its economy? 6. What was its form of government? 7. Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat? 8. Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation? 9. What was the language of the country of Palestine? 10. What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine? 11. What was the name of its currency? Choose any date in history and tell what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date. 12. And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur? If the people you mistakenly call "Palestinians" are anything but generic Arabs collected from all over -- or thrown out of -- the Arab world, if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, why did they never try to become independent until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War?
24. #12 Luiz. How would an 8 mile waist help Israel?
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
#12 Luiz. You say you're a true friend of Israel. If you are, why on earth would you want to see Israel's waist trimmed to just 8 suicidal miles? That is what the Two State Final Solution means for Israel. It means other things too. All of which are terrible. Such as having every single Israeli city and town within range of terrorist rockets. It means "Palestine" would be a staging ground for hostile forces who need only trek 8 miles to cut our Homeland in half. It means being inundated by hostile Arabs. The Two State Final Solution offers Israel nothing but doom. That is the incontrovertible fact.
25. Hypocrites! liars! the Arabs don't want peace!
chris ,   wlaes   (01.10.11)
they didn't want peace in the first place.excuse after excuse.this is so convenient for the Arabs! why did Israel pick this moment for this?giving them an Excuse! but truth be told, the Arabs are never going to recognize Israel's righ! bad timing though!!
26. To #12 Luiz Felipe Haddad
Jose Farias ,   Sao Paulo - Brasil   (01.10.11)
We haven't to turn the other face. Hate have to be fighted with hate. By the way, read about the problem before trying to solve it. It seems you know nothing about it. Cara meta a viola no saco e saia de mansinho.
27. to#21
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (01.10.11)
My post was purely factual...And the fact is, that Israel has been seeking peace since day 1, but unfortunetly the Jewish State has never had a partner for peace negotiations and probably never will...Just take a look at the map of the Middle East. Can you find Israel on it ? Should I say more? I am not being aggressive, only true to history of my people and my little land...If we don't stand up for ourselves, who will...Does the word Holocaust mean anything to you? Thank you very much for your offering of your friendship...I really appreciate it !
28. The Land
Aviel ,   USA   (01.10.11)
To Narwar: But the Land was Jewish first and then taken illegally by Jordan in 1948. The Land was rightfully part of Israel as indicated by the Balfour Declaration that was ratified by the UN (League of Nations). Know your history.
29. #17 - Al-Husseini ran from area in 1940s
William ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
that's when he joined the Nazis to help wipe out 90% of the Slavic Jews. He was the owner of the property, not the Al-Husseini family, and he not only left the area prior to 1948, he's also a war criminal. I believe Hitler lost his property too to the State of Germany. Since you believe the Husseini family should have their property back, perhaps you too will rally for Jews to return to their property in Sheik Jarrah which was stolen from them by the Jordanians and given to Arabs illegally - both with Jordan and the Arab families squatting in the houses admit to. But I've seen your posts here which basically say Jews do not have rights which Arabs have. I believe they call that "racism" and "apartheid", huh?
30. #13 - only "invading govt" were the Arabs
William ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
Jews didn't have a govt until 1948 when they declared independence, and even then, they accepted the partition. It was 5 Arab armies which invaded in hopes of ethnically cleansing the land of Jews and destroying their human right of self-determination. How can you be so ignorant? The Arab League documented well their course of action which also called for "Jewish blood to run through the streets like a river". Now Arabs know a thing or two about ethnic cleansing. They attempted it in 1948, Jordan did succeed the same year in the West Bank, and Arab nations did their part in years to come by threatening, jailing, then expelling their Jewish population. If ethnic cleansing was "attempted" by Jews, how exactly did so many remain in Israel without harm to them? A whole 20% population in Israel is Arab while in Jordan 0% are Jews. You are right about one thing - before Israel, the land was Muslim after it was stolen through violent invasion (as told by YOUR history books) from Christians, who inherited it from Romans who stole it from the Jews, who have a very long, documented governing past on the land. You Muslims stole the land, you stole our Temple Mount and threw a monument to the moon god on it, and you still occupy lands from India to Morocco. Incidentally, much land in the area is/was Jewish and your ilk seemed perfectly content with stealing it after ethnic cleansing in 1948, only to claim it as Arab native land. Even Hamas' Haniyeh admitted to that in 2005.
