1. DEAR MR. ETTINGER
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (01.10.11)
We do not have to explain nor justify ourselves to anybody .And if the likes of Clinton and Ashton do not approve...they can go to hell.
2. Amen
YB ,   Israel   (01.10.11)
3. just lol
Marwan ,   Amman, Jordan   (01.10.11)
is this why you haven't been able to dig a single archeological artifact that proves your claims for the past 40 years since you occupied al-quds al-shareef?! you people are a living joke.
4. Our Roots Are Still Alive
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.10.11)
The land is ours, the country is ours, which makes the responsibility ours. Palestine is alive. .... the holiest land on earth for all three major religions , No matter your race, ethnicity, religion, or language...we are all Palestine's children. Remember us the native people of the ancient land of CANAAN, Plaestine it was called...Palestine it is called before the PLO or after . PLO is a political expression of the Palestinians, HARD TRUTH is the Palestinian people .
5. Yes Indeed. I will add that Jerusalem is not mentioned by an
James ,   Boston   (01.10.11)
any name in the koran. This is our land. They have 22 countries already twice the size of the US. Pressure the G-8 and US especially to end the UNRWA which sustains the "palestinian myth by keeping the 3rd generation of refugees in camps in arab countries. end this mascarade, stop funding the UNRWA.
6. Right to the land
Geoff ,   London (UK)   (01.10.11)
In addition to what's been written, the author needs to stress that the Jews were effectively expelled from their land by the Romans and that fact, in itself, provides the moral basis for the Jews' right of return.
7. to # 4 salma
fad egypt   (01.10.11)
well give me a proof that this land regardless of its name was arab or muslim can you prove to me that this land before the israelis enter it 3500 bc was arab ???? first the land was inhabited by many tribes like cannanies , yebusites and others these tribes were not arabs because they are the descendents of ham son of noah they were not talking arabic and no arceological evidence say that they were arabs while that arabs came from a man called yaktan son of shem son of noah so there is a big diference between the two peoples when god promised the israelis to give them the land he made a covenant to give them the land forever the second point the muslim world has nothing holy in this land the mosque found in jerusalem is not the aqsa mosque why because it is built in the rein of el calipha abd elmalk ibn marawan means after prophet mohamed death by many years !!!!! so the aqsa mosque should have been during mohamed days and actually there is a mosque in saudia arabia called elaqsa mosque also there is nothing called palestine this name was give by the roman emperor hedrian to the land of israel to remove any relation between the jews and their land can you tell me where in the quran or any arab or muslim historical book that the arabs were refering to that land with the name palestine? the arabs were refering to that land as el sham i was taught in the history in the school that calipha omar ibn el5 attab occupied egypt and elsham !!!! that means that they ve admitted that there is nothing called palestine !!!!! where in the quran is there a word called jerusalem ? or elquds ???!!!!! you will never find so this is not arab or muslim land it is the land of israel of the jewish people the descendents of the israelits you will find in the bible a word called filistinians and in arabic it is written فلسطين بس حروفها مكسورة so it can be written in english filistinians these people were the descendants of the japuth son of noah they were not arabs they came from the middeterian sea from greece and cyprus and occupied gaza only also in the quran in the verse of elma2ada you will find many points telling that god has given this land to the jews and that they are the chosen people finally read that urgently and try to use your logic and thanks so much shalom from a proud christian zionist and god bless you and bless israel
8. Give it up already
Barka   (01.10.11)
Continuity of residence is what matters, and you did not go from a small demographic minority to a majority without ethnic cleansing, violence, war on any territory, not even in the Holy Land. It's a blood and soil project which displaced and subjected the former Arab majority, a crime that continues to this day, and it stinks to high heaven.
9. To Marwan & Salma
Jewish Israeli   (01.10.11)
Your frequent attempts to re-write history of this region are doomed to failure. The writer of this piece and all educated people know that the land which the ancient Roman invaders re-named "Palestine" was the homeland and heartland of the Jews. Today many of us have returned from the forced exile after centuries of persecution in far away lands to rejoin the indigenous Jews who have always had a presence here. The very label "Palestine" is not even an Arabic word!
10. #3
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.10.11)
Even if there were no archeological artifacts (but there are) we would not need them to prove our claim. Our claim is proven by the one source that even you would not dare doubt as the absolute truth. Read the Koran: it is clearly written that we are the indigenous people of Israel.
11. Salma #4
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (01.10.11)
Salma, you did not address any of the issues raised in the article. If you disagree with them, please attempt to rebutt them, point by point.
12. Marwan, the joke is on you
Jason, Ph.D. ,   Charlotte, USA   (01.10.11)
Marwan, Do you seriously think that anybody with half a brain believes your nonsense? Israel is loaded with artifacts of the historical Jewish presence, and I have personally seen hundreds of them. I cannot help but think that Allah is highly displeased with your evil attemps to distort the truth. Allah abides in truth. Now submit yourself to Allah's will!
13. #3 & #4 - Nice revisionist try
(01.10.11)
14. It doesn't matter really you left for
Sam ,   ME   (01.10.11)
2000 years. History is irrelevant in this conflict what matter is the fact that poeple are !@#@ living there.
15. DEAR MARWAN
yahudi ,   ארץ ישראל   (01.10.11)
Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish nation since your fathers fathers were worshiping stones and sacrificing their daughters to idols. Our museums, and the museums of the world, are full of artifacts proving this, and if you haven't heard about that, it is because you are an ignorant little pawn who reads the corrupted media of a state who consistently lies to her citizens: "Jordan." Tell me, how does it feel to be the citizen of a made-up state, invented by British colonial occupiers, ruled by Saudi Arabian beduins who were imported by the British because they would do what the British said, when they said it? How does it feel to live in a country that has absolutely no historical background before the 20th century, a European invention? And you try and mock the Jews - and their ancient connection to their land; truly, how pathetic you are. You deserve pity for humiliating yourself like this.
16. #4 Hard Truth
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (01.10.11)
The HARD TRUTH is that Jordan is your home. GO HOME!! Wherever Palestinians go, chaos results. Get back to Jordan where King Abdullah may deal with you in the manner to which you are accustomed as did his Grandfather and Father.
17. #3: We are the joke?!
(01.10.11)
And I thought the joke is on the hundreds of millions of Arabs who live in miserable 3rd world countries with no economy, no political freedom, no humam rights, no contribution in any field to the world (except for humus and falafel), and no Jerusalem - cause as far as I know Jerusalem is still an Israeli city. I thing you got it wrong - you are the joke!
18. Marwan, you're the joke
Nachum ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.10.11)
Don't you realize that archaeological digs aren't forbidden on the Temple Mount- by your coreligionists? Talk about stacking the deck. Oh, and have you ever wondered *why* it's revered by Muslims? Why it's called "al-Quds?" I'll save you the time- because that's where the *Jewish* temples stood.
19. Please
Nachum ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.10.11)
It was named "Palestine" by the Romans, and the "Palestinian people" were invented after 1948. If you talk Canaanite (which is almost identical to Hebrew), we can discuss.
20. #14 actually no
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.10.11)
Everyone agrees that the indigenous people of Israel have rights. Everyone agrees that the Jews are indigenous people as proven by the Koran. The question is not whether or not anyone else has any rights, for example the Druze, Bedouin, Samaritans or Circassians. The question is what rights do the Arab immigrants from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt who came to Israel since 1920 have. In that context #3, #4 and your comments are not relevant because everyone should agree that the indigenous people should have rights, and foreign immigrants should go back home. The fact that you don't agree proves that you know that most "Palestinians" are foreign immigrants.
21. Nice
Mordechai ,   London   (01.10.11)
Very nice article, now we need a strong Israeli leadership who has the guts to tell the world this. He has to be strong and not give up this line.
22. Jews are ARABS TOO!
Eric Sasso   (01.10.11)
Why do Jews act as if they were never Arabs when in fact you have ARAB JEWS LIVING EVERYWHERE IN THE MIDEAST Just like you have Russian Jews and German Jews you do have Arab jews. These jews spoke arabic, ate arabic food, listen to arabic music and were arabs just like you have Christian Arabs. Judaism is a belief, it is NOT AN ETHNICITY as much as you try to make it out so. 93% of today’s jews are converts which means they have ZERO CONNECTION WITH THE MIDEAST.
23. Abram born/came from Ur, Babylonia to Canaan as an Immigrant

24. Is the Bible a historical text?
observer   (01.10.11)
Writing during the early half of the 19th century, the first modern Jewish historians, such as Isaak Markus Jost (1793-1860) and Leopold Zunz (1794-1886), did not think so. They regarded the Old Testament as a theological work reflecting the beliefs of Jewish religious communities after the destruction of the first temple. It was not until the second half of the century that Heinrich Graetz (1817-91) and others developed a “national” vision of the Bible and transformed Abraham’s journey to Canaan, the flight from Egypt and the united kingdom of David and Solomon into an authentic national past. By constant repetition, Zionist historians have subsequently turned these Biblical “truths” into the basis of national education. But during the 1980s an earthquake shook these founding myths. The discoveries made by the “new archaeology” discredited a great exodus in the 13th century BC. Moses could not have led the Hebrews out of Egypt into the Promised Land, for the good reason that the latter was Egyptian territory at the time. And there is no trace of either a slave revolt against the Pharaonic Empire or of a sudden conquest of Canaan by outsiders.
25. # 11
East Jerusalem   (01.10.11)
The Jewish people didn't exist as a political entity before 1948, as far as David and Suleiman’s time, they ruled a tribe, their political control didn't exceed a city boundary, hardly can be called a viable state like the Roman or Islamic empire. There was never before a state called Israel. The question isn't a legitimacy issue, but rather a control and power issue. The Jewish people, given good timing and right conditions and the support of the new world powers, managed to creat a political entity based on military power only. Should conditions change in the future; this political entity will go away. That doesn’t mean Muslims are morally better or worst than Jews, these are just simple fact and history. As far as who God prefers, each can claim what ever; God Chosen people were scattered and humiliated all over the world for over 2000 years. The same; Islam's great empire dispended and became a target for occupying powers from France, Britain and others. So no one has a hold on God and morality. Power is everything. If it wasn’t for Military power, the State of Israeli will not be alive today and no one can guarantee this military power including "God's chosen people"

Western Wall, What is the proof whether the temple was west or east of the wall? If the temple was there before Moses, then Jerusalem & the Temple should have been mentioned at least once in Moses' Torah & those so many atheist Jews wouldn't exist in the first place.
27. Father of the Jewish State
Samy ,   Palestine   (01.10.11)
David Ben Gurion: Stated, "Why should the Arabs make pace? If I was an Arab leader, I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural, we have taken their country. They may perhaps forget in one or two generation time"
28. the problem with the zionists
(01.10.11)
is that they are trying there best to convince the world that palestinians are a fake , but what you are forgetting is that the palestinians have been here for hundreds and thousands of years , and neither you nor anyone can deny them this fact , can you tell the americans ,canadians that they dont belong to the land they live in because they have been there for less than 500 or a thousand years ?
29. to # 7 fad
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.10.11)
Where in our holy Koran it says that Palestine is for the Israelites? can you prove your words? You arab christians betrayed our holy religion and take sides with the zionist imperialist. The Cannanites are the roots of the arabs and that is really written all over our Koran and Al quds has always been a pilgrimage shrine for us the real indigenous inhabitants of Palestine. Go educate yourself.
30. What someone from Mars would think on reading this talkback
david ,   tel aviv   (01.10.11)
It seems that mos people in the Earth are crazy. They live in the same region but they worry about things that happened thousands of years ago. Everyone says that this land is ours, because we were here first. Of course humans do not live over 100 years, so they talked about people like them, some kind of arquetype of their cultural values
