1. "I opposed, I oppose and I will oppose"
Harry ,   Jerusalem   (01.18.11)
you watering down the Jewish religion. ONE GOD-ONE TORAH. What a ridicules statement, Conversion Bill divides Jewish people". How can you divide something, that isn't. What you are doing, is FORCING a watered down religion on us, then cry, that it is dividing the Jewish people. You are DIVIDING the Jewish people, with your fake style of Judaism, the FEEL GOOD religion. STOP, brainwashing and hyping the public. God does not need numbers, He wants TRUE observing Jews, not the kind that pick & choose.
2. jewish religion
gary ,   herzlia   (01.18.11)
what is the jewish religion?is it a religion that is going backwoods, that is living a life they believed they had hundreds of years ago.that produces new rules each day because they don't work and have nothing else to do, then put them deeper in a jail.kosher meat from one group is not good enough for another group. a jewish religion should be for the people,by the people.anyone wishes to join the jewish religion should be welcome.
3. Herzog & Peres models of morality ??
Delusion&Hypocrisy ,   Israel   (01.18.11)
What world does Herzog live in that he thinks he and Peres both with many many dark financial scandals in their past are sp morally pure as to lead the way ? Needed an entirely new and young generation of politicians without the dark "baggage " of the past ones.If there was in place a system of investigating seriously those seeking public office these 2 would have long ago been gone. Hypocrits Herzog & Peres.I guess they are waiting till Peres ascends into heaven wearing a halo before the truth about that man will be revealed Herzog has evidently forgotten his Switzerland experience and continues to be delusional.

Right, because YOU, Harry, have say over what God wants??
5. # 2...too bad no one will read your comment..
Edithann ,   USA   (01.18.11)
It makes too much sense and God doesn't want too much sense..just ask Harry #1. TATA
6. #4 laz
Harry ,   Jerusalem   (01.18.11)
Is that short for lazy.....Which that is my point. It may be difficult in knowing what God wants, but I do know what God doesn't want. Watering down Judaism, that FITS YOUR NEEDS, is not Judaism. We strive to do what God expect us to do, to believe in HIM & LIVE ACCORDING TO HIS TORAH. Not what you want it to mean. I am not nitpicking small issues. THERE IS A RIGHT WAY AND A WRONG WAY. WHEN YOU SUCCEED IN MIXING OIL & WATER, GIVE ME A CALL. Write back or trash all you want. See you at the end of line.
7. #1 - straight to the point
Dati Leumi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.18.11)
8. Wrong comparison
Carl   (01.18.11)
The situation of Arabs in Israel is not analogous to Blacks in the USA. Black Americans never openly aligned themselves with outside forces seeking to exterminate the United States. Herzog should study some history.
9. #1 Harry
Solomon ,   Bklyn   (01.18.11)
'Orthodox' does not mean 'the only right way' especially since most of the laws are from rabbi's interpretations, not HaShem. Following your mode of thought one might say the Karaites are the only 'right' Jews. You don't want a "watered down religion forced on us" (who is 'us'?), then don't force your strict ways on everyone else. Not everyone in the Torah was as observant as you make them out to be.
10. #8..don't be silly...the only similarity is.....
Edithann ,   USA   (01.18.11)
Jews want to enslave the Arabs and their respective governments...and it's all falling apart now... Seems like it's what 'GOD' wants after all, or he wouldn't have made the Arabs so determined...They're as determined to get rid of Israel and the US as the Jews are determined to get rid of them...hahahah.. Seems to be a 'God' battle...too bad 'God' made so many 'others'... Think if he made a world of Jews it might have been different? I doubt it! TATA
11. #1 and #10
Aharon   (01.18.11)
I completely agree with #9 in his rebuttal to Harry. Harry, you can have your orthodox views, but that doesn't mean everybody wants them or that their religion is water-downed because they don't share those beliefs. I also agree with #8, it's a bad comparison between Israel and 1940's Alabama. Edithann, Jews don't want to make anyone their slaves, but look at Arab/Muslim countries and anyone who isn't a Muslim is a 2nd class citizen or worse. Frankly, Israelis and Jews have a right to fear Arabs/Muslims, and if Arabs/Muslims have a problem with that, then they should stop bombing and attacking us.
12. To All the Fundamentalist Fools...
Glenn Tamir ,   Israel   (01.19.11)
Masorti Judaism is as Jewish as the Fundamentalist Haredi Traditions that continue to move the goal posts further to the right and towards Talibanism. We in Israel refuse to allow those maniacs to turn Israel into "Haredistan" We are a Democratic State and a State that allows ALL JEWS to practice Judaism in their own traditions. Anyone who says that their own tradition is THE ONLY way to practice their Judaism is a fool.
13. Sarah Palin Glenn Beck duet
NadePaulKuciGravMcKi ,   states   (01.19.11)
Don't cry for me Netanyahu The truth is I never left you
14. Finally, someone cares enough to stand up to religious thugs
noa ,   israel   (01.19.11)
Judaism is about discussion, different points of view and tolerance, not racism.
15. Hubris
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (01.19.11)
The Haridi concept that they are the only ones who know what G-d wants the height of hubris. First of all nobody in fact really knows what G-d wants, no one today is a prophet who speaks directly to Hashem. There is no real unity between the various Haridi sects, one sect does not trust or accept the rabbi of another sect. Many of the Haridi & their rabbis are unschooled in the sciences or even in the real world as their schools offer very limited education in the needs of the real world. They accept the word of their rabbi as if it was given by G-d himself; of course their rabbis are incorrect in many of their utterances. Their treatment of women is a throwback to 16th century normal behavior and totally ignores the achievements of the fair sex in the modern world. They are completely against pluralism & democracy. For Israel to survive these Hasidim need to be ignored and removed from any political power.

R ,   Jerusalem   (01.19.11)
"They are completely against pluralism & democracy. For Israel to survive these Hasidim need to be ignored and removed from any political power. " So... according to you, in order for pluralism and democracy, we need to remove 'Hasidim' from any political power... however, the reason they have political power is BECAUSE of pluralism and democracy. A tad hypocritical, don't you think?
17. ""no one has monopoly over judaism"
payer ,   planet earth   (01.20.11)
not even zionism.
18. #16
Glenn Tamir ,   Israel   (01.20.11)
Not hypocritical but accurate. In order for Pluralism to work, religious extremist dogma must be removed from politics. Masorti Jews and other sane Israelis can do this, the Haredi will not. The problem with removing them from politics is that there are so many of them and they are multiplying like rabbits - this is the scarry part.
19. To #16
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (01.20.11)
I am talkng aout the seperation of religin & state.
