1. Erdogan, if you are so good then what do you need Europe for
leo ,   usa   (01.17.11)
2. TURKS WILL NEVER CHANGE
American ,   Los Angeles   (01.17.11)
As long as turkey is a supporter of islamic terrorist organizations and states like Iran, turks will be left dreaming of EU.
3. mr erdogan
(01.17.11)
you really have nothing to offer he civilized world both in europe or elsewhere. nothing that you make, develop or produce (except for anti israel propaganda) has any value to both europeans and americans or anyone in the west. you have made your bed with the iranians and syrians and have as much to offer the civilized nations of the world as syria and iran do. do not please inflate your own importance because you are truly not the "gate" to the middle east and neither is iran in its devastated economical state. wanting to be an islamic superpower in the middle east and being a superpower are two different things and you are not one to begin with. you, erdogan, are taking your once beautiful democratic ataturkian nation in the wrong spiral path downward and europeans as well as the west sees it plain and clear. your "threats" via your speeches to the eu..."accept us or else..." won't wash. they are not intimidated and they will do what is good for the west irregardless of your whining and bullying. the way things look now in your country, the oppression, the islamization of turkey, the occupation of cyprus which needs its independence from your clutches and the armenian genocide resolution that is knocking at your door is loud and clear. leave the kurds alone. stop bombarding them, murdering them and then have the audacity to "protect the palestinians from israel", as you claim. leave the cypriot country alone. take your millions of turkish muslims you send there to occupy this island into your grip and bring them home to turkey. after all, you are against the israeli "occupation". what is your excuse since you are doing the very same thing in cyprus that you are accusing the israelis of doing. agree to accept full responsibility for your hand in the over a million armenian slaughter and starvation by your own hands, the ottoman turkish empire. give your opposition freedom of speech and human rights and dignity. or are you becoming a typical muslim tyrant blaming israel for everything and taking no responsibility of your own. by the way, israel owes you no apology at all regarding the debacle you created and approved with the mavi marmara. learn to be responsible, not to instigate, not to point fingers while you are doing all the damage.. and then, maybe then, europe will listen to your empty words and threats. you are a turkish bully, an islamic demagogue. you are not fit to rule over a nation in the image of democratic and humane ataturk. god help the turkish people, the decent democratic people in turkey that are seeing you for who you are and are looking at the dangerous and damaging alliances you are making with the most terrorist sponsoring despotic totalitarian police states in the region. shame on you. you are no leader, at least not in attaturk's image. hameed aboughaze, iranian hameed aboughaze, iranian
4. Erdogan, go to your Iranian and Syrian friends.Enuf Muslims

5. DELUSIONAL TURK!

6. false illusions of importance
izzie irgun ,   usa   (01.17.11)
Erdogen's view of the world is muslim centirc and shows how out of touch he is. Reality is that there are no medical, technological or other innovations coming from any muslim country including turkey, they are simply consumers some of whom have more money than others. To assert that turkey is some sort of economic engine is specious and a serious miscalulation. Erdogen is leading turkey down the road into thinking they are more important than they really are, even noe no one listens to them politically. The EU believes that only thing that muslim countries export other than oil, is terrorism and now that erdogen supports iran and syria the EU must ask where he stands on muslim violence. In Erdogen's view if its directed at Israel he has no problem with it, but even the EU won't tolerate that for long, they know they are likely to be next.
7. erdogan now more megalomanic than obumma. The EU needs
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.17.11)
more arrogant muslums around it's neck to fail even faster than it is.
8. As if
Shaul   (01.17.11)
As if the EU didn't already have a few million "young Muslims bursting with vigor" that it does not know what to do with. If he thinks his words increase Turkey's appeal to the EU, he is even more delusional than I was giving him credit for. "Turkey knocking on Europe's doors" - where did we hear that sound before? The gates of Vienna, perhaps?
9. the slippery slope is becoming slipplerier !
josef   (01.17.11)
Attatuck is dead. Albeit a bit slower, Turkey is slidding down this bottomless pit wiithout having anything to hang on to.( famed M.East topography ). Under the guidance of a Erdogan, Turkey is returning to it's good old cunning ways. The Marmara, the Kurds, the rape of Cyprus, the unresolved Armanian massacre, are only the manifestations of a Dictatorship in the making.. Joining the EU will make it all civilized, acceptable and proper, like the Austrian painter did 78 years ago. You are an SOB trampling on a hard working citizenry who, without any changes, will have to pay the ultimate price that Dictators usually charge..When your neighbors start disintegrating, as they wii, you will realise that the path you are persuing is the path to mayhem, revolt and ultimately destruction
10. #7 says u? Muslim president, muslim miss America 2010, Mosqu
(01.17.11)
Yeah the huge mega mosque in NYC. I could go on..
11. end the illegal occupation of cyprus first
zionist forever   (01.17.11)
The EU is overstretched already and on the verge of bankruptcy with all the member states they are bailing out I would have thought they would like to slow down enlargement. If they are going to admit Turkey there should be a few conditions 1) End the occupation of the independent state of Cyprus 2) End the slaughter in Kurdistan 3) Admit genocide & apologise to the Armenians 4) Break off the close relations with Iran. 5) Stop the islamic radicals running Turkey namely Erdogan and his cronies.

13. mr.erdogone, dream on!
Maxime Love Israel ,   USA   (01.17.11)
Sooner or later this delusional dictator will be gone with wind. Turkey's ticket to the EU, only trough complete restoration of democracy and credible reestablishment of a lasting peaceful and respectful relationship with Israel.
14. BEFORE ERDOGAN WILL AGREE TO JOIN EU
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (01.17.11)
He'll demand that the EU apologizes for keeping Turkey waiting for so long. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
15. What Turkey has...

20. Go on Erdo !
selim ,   uk   (01.17.11)
Many Jewish people writing on this column has hatred for Turks but please do not forget that for 4000 years We always had our own country be it at the centre of Asia or at Europe. We have had ruled from Adriatic to China wall . You have had your own country for only over 50 years within last 4000 years. Please do not teach us how to rule our country. I understand your passion but please you try to understand ours. Thanks

Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (01.17.11)
Turkish history is not in dispute but the interpretation of how beneficial and progressive it was is very debatable. Besides do you not think that the EU with basket economies like Portugal, Spain and a host of East European members is a enough of a headache without needing a brain transplant to accommodate the arrogance and intolerance of Erdogan and his messianic belief in Islam. Europe in general does not need or want the massive unemployment endemic in Turkey to create further pressure on our economies.
22. @#20
Marie-Luise ,   Germany   (01.17.11)
We do not want Turkey/Erdogan to tell us how to run our countries. We need him like a hole in the head.

24. thanks i needed a good laugh
Sean Greene ,   Pasadena, USA   (01.17.11)
There is a reason Turkey begs to be added and no one wants to add them. Turkey is a lawless state with horrible finances and borders with dangerous states, Kurdistan might be a far better choice if it were to separate. I suspect Russia will join before Turkey,

the greeks do not want you as well. they are now building a wall to keep you ignorants away from this european country. they have enough problems without the muslim stench infiltrating them as well. erdogan was very upset about this wall. but, hay. it is necessary to keep the filth of muslim country immigrants from pouring into europe and soiling that continent. you have nothing to offer except cheap labor, unintelligent people and backwards mentality. keep away from us. greece viva greece without the muslims. also, give us back cyprus. you are occupying our island by force.
26. Turkey is the boil on Europe's behind. The reason they
rachel ,   tel aviv, Israel   (01.17.11)
have NOT been accepted into the EU has nothing to do with their economic standing. It is their longstanding deplorable human rights record against the Kurds and the Cypriots. Erdogan's recent sucking up to Iran and Syria and Lebanon makes Europe uncomfortable as it should. No one needs Turkey. This is just their typical bluster and it is their fault for misreading the sentiments of the Western powers as to their lack of inclusion into the EU. They are too clueless to be permitted entrance into the European community of nations.

Other way around mate. Jews have been in their homeland for near 4000 years. The Turks of Today have zero connection and continuity to the hittites that lived there 3000 years ago. Turkey is, however , in its present general population as old as the ottoman (@1500-1900), maybe seljuk empires (@1200-1500). We like many Turks, the problem is the Islamization of Turkey. Your country is tilting inot the ayatolahs arms and its been on this track since arrogant erdogan came on board 8 yrs ago
