1. Well if so Eitan: start fighting back. Al Gore does not
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.20.11)
accept the global warming phenomenon as a natural occurrence(which it is) and invents a "fight" against cow-farting and such. What's stopping Israel from not allowing a phoney people estabilish a phoney Nation on a very real land that belongs to a very real Jewish People??!! What I am saying is every mothers ultimate "argument": If Moyshe jumps from the roof, do you have to as well ?
2. By walking out of negotiations
BH ,   Iowa   (01.20.11)
and bypassing them by going directly to the UN, the PA has put unilateral action on the table. Annex Areas B & C and be done with it.
3. Exactly
Ran ,   Canada   (01.20.11)
You hit it right on the head...you are exactly right Eitan
4. Israel has the demographic assets to easily stop it.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.20.11)
Nobody can stop the P.A. from declaring statehood, as it did in 1988. However, declaring a state doesn't create one. We have a rapidly growing Jewish population of almost 700,000 Jews in Judea and Samaria, including Jerusalem.Soon the Jewish population of Judea and Samaria will exceed 1,000,000. We have the demographic assets to easily stop this tragedy. It doesn't loom at all. Moreover, the vast majority of Israelis will make sure it never does Once Israel declares her official rejection of the evil Two State Final Solution, countles millions of our supporters will be free to support us in rejecting it. As for Eitan Haber, when has he ever been correct about anything substantial?
5. ahh no we are not really if this was true it would have been
(01.20.11)
done long ago
6. That's what the prime minister hopes for
Howard K   (01.20.11)
A nice way of letting others (the UN) do the dirty work. No risk of coalition breakup and no need to pay compensation to the settlers, who will be left there to fend for themselves. That's what happens when politicians' main priority is to hold on to power instead of standing up for real principles. The public has some responsibility on this too. They have been warned this is coming, with even a date of August 11, 2011 for their declaration of independence, but no preemptive act so far, no Plan A of Plan B for when this happens.
7. Logical consequences.
Jules   (01.20.11)
1) Any act of "recognition" of an entity which has a territorial dispute with Israel is an act of aggression. The Foreign Ministry should forward a clear message to all countries that declare such "recognition", instead of vague statements that "it won't help the peace process". 2) Any step of the PA in the direction of "independence" must be reciprocated by Israel accordingly, because there is a number of "levers": a) reduce the amount of medical care provided to the PA residents; b) reduce the amounts and number of financial transactions; c) restrict movement of goods and vehicles, etc. Call it a "siege" or "blockade" - whatever. The PLO Charter is as "kind" towards Israel as the HAMAS Charter, so why should they be treated differently ? Besides, the PLO Government is illegitimate anyway, so they cannot argue about such treatment (unlike HAMAS who insist of being elected "democratically"). The international community doesn't care about Israel or PA at all, it must be understood. The only matter of concern is the oil price. It looks like Israel has already been sacrificed by many for the sake of the oil prices; but the people of Israel have not been consulted about their own fate.
8. Leftists are salivating
Rachel ,   US   (01.20.11)
You're going to be just as disappointed as the Palestinians.
9. Even I'm not buying it, Eitan.
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.20.11)
We've heard it all before, and as nice as it sounds, I refuse to raise my hopes only to be, not let down, but dropped with a thud. How much hope can there be with the newly empowered (thanks Ehud) government, which spells no progress, at least for a couple more years. Oh well.....
10. Twas fated
Cameron ,   USA   (01.20.11)
Even the most ardent Zionist knew this day would eventually roll around the corner. The existence of Hamas in Gaza ensures that it's essentially arrested in a symbolic form, but once those knuckleheads are finally tumbled down, then the worldwide pressure for the concept to take a more tangible form will be irresistible; like a boulder rolling down a hillside.
11. Of equal concern is the concomitant loss of...
Rafi ,   US   (01.20.11)
... Israeli diplomatic influence worldwide. Following a peak of respect and influence worldwide under Prime Minister Rabin z"l in the mid-1990s, Israel's diplomatic reach has steadily declined, with an especially sharp decline in the last several years. Most recently - speaking of loss of influence among Latin American countries - Costa Rica, one of of the few nations recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, moved its embassy out of that city. Is it any coincidence that much of this preciptous decline has taken place under the Netanyahu Govt - and specifically with the Foreign Ministry team "sui genris" of Lieberman and Danny Ayalon?? What a long, sad trek downward Israel has come from the glory days of Abba Eban when - even if it was not agreed with - Israel's diplomatic leadership was respected around the globe... Today better diplomatic talent could probably be found in the Jersualem's Biblical Zoo!
12. New State
Count Dracula ,   Los Angeles USA   (01.20.11)
We will know for sure when a country that has recognized Palestinian is the first open an embassy in what Israel likes to think of as "the west bank". How long will it be? This year?
13. At least Eitan Haber is A logician?
Palestinian   (01.20.11)
By the way who gave that committee the Right? To look into what is going on in the area known as PALESTINE / land of Israel? AND who gave that "committee" the right to decide to partition Palestine? Peace
14. Palestine Is Coming ...
yahoo ,   Syria   (01.20.11)
Palestine was there before was destroyed by the group of Zionist who immigrated from europe and america We must let it be free and must pressure Zionists to let Palestine FREEEEEEEEE
15. Notice the choice of word: "Looming"
Nour ,   Palestine   (01.20.11)
The Palestinian state threatens or menaces Eitan Haber. It's no wonder that your people don't want peace. You were never sincere in the 2-state solution, only intent on stealing as much land as possible. Someone at the PA must have finally woken up from the 20-year road-to-nowhere that was Oslo. Thank God Fayyad declared Areas classification as null and void. Now we will have our state on 100% of the West Bank, plus an army and air force. See how a fascist government worked for you?
16. #2 And the settlements are not a unilateral action?
Nour ,   Palestine   (01.20.11)
You know, an action that changes the facts on the ground? Of the sort of 500,000 illegal settlers? 200 settlements? Stolen water acquifers? Looted archeological sites all over the West Bank? Arrogantly adding sites in the WEst Bank to Israeli "national" heritage list? Why don't you get it over with and annex the damn territory and see what kind of South Africa will emerge? You are all talk. You've had 20 years to make things good, but instead you chose greed and "Ertez Yisrael" over the removal of fortification mentality. Now you will see "Judea and Samaria" snatched from your thieving hand. Sit back, and enjoy the ride. Oh and fasten your seatbelt..
17. #4 What you omitted from your argument
Nour ,   Palestine   (01.20.11)
Or should I say, what you deliberately censored from your non-argument is the fact that most of the illegal colonists in the West Bank reside in the so-called settlement blocks. Their areas are merely 2-3% of the total West Bank area.
18. Missed out a tiny tiny detail
Danny   (01.20.11)
That Israel wasn't founded by the UN in 1947 and was not founded because it was "recognised". If that was the case then "Palestine" would have been a state since 1988, where they garnered more states "recognising" them. Israel exists because it won the war in 1948 and again in 1956 and 1967 and 1973 and 2000 and 2006.
19. Many Countries have border disputes
Igor ,   Nyc usa   (01.20.11)
Say a Palestinian state is recongnized by the UN. So Israel defines the borders and has a border dispute with them. There are Israeli troops in there? So the US has troops in Germany, Cuba, Korea. Negotiate their withdrawl. And remember, they still get zero on refugee return and a connection to Gaza with their new state.
20. streethood
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (01.20.11)
First of all, you hardly see anything about this outside of the Middle East. Most coverage about the Middle East, mercifully, is not about this. indeed the Paleys have a terrible sense of timing. People are nervous about Tunisia, Lebanon and Yemen and celebrating Stuxnet.
21. to #16 setlers cam't loot their own arciological sites
ghostq   (01.20.11)
they r religious people, sad to say but you copy past without checking the facts, and as for greed that is chritian thing that is one of the main 7 sins, it is funny when palis seems to get all the data wrong.
22. #14 Palestine is coming, coming......gone!!
(01.20.11)
23. Isn't it a bit strange that "Pharaoh's" name is never given?
World Traveller ,   Perth, Australia   (01.20.11)
There never was this central Pharaoh who did the events mentioned in the bible, which was why his name is never mentioned in the bible. No 7 plagues. No mass exodus from Egypt. It's easy to overcome a non-existent enemy, but much harder to overcome one who exists.
24. Palis want a state covering all of
Seppo ,   Finland   (01.20.11)
Palestine and with their designed tactics they expect to get it from the West forming a MUSLIM MAJORITY in anything what remains from Israel and then expell all Jews and Christians away. Betlehem used to be a Christian town but Arabs already expelled most of them.
25. no such thing as "palestinians"!
jordan=palestine   (01.20.11)
they are a made up people! civil war is coming!
26. @20 Is that Homer Jones of Jints fame??

28. Palestine is coming no 14
JUDAH THE LION   (01.20.11)
These group of Zionist who immigrated from Europe,America, and from all over the world, they are returning back to their homeland of the Jews,as the Arabs saying "RIGHT OF THE JEWS TO RETURN BACK TO THEIR ANCIENT HOMELAND. Zion is the city of JERUSALEM. Ya ahbal Mr.yahoo from Syria,Jews were in ISRAEL THOUSANDS of YEARS BEFORE ISLAM. Yes already Israel is free and the Golan is free from the Arab INVADERS. YOUR QURAN is the witness. Good quality of WINE from Golan. CHEERS TO ISRAEL
