1. The Muslim US president like a typical Arab
Shalom   (01.25.11)
wants to drive Israel into the sea. Can you expect Netanyahu to share US goals?
2. Let's hope that the author's political
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (01.25.11)
analysis is correct and, furthermore, Thomas Friedman gathers some influence. In that case, the president will leave us alone. He and his staff and advisors have been meddling too much.
3. Typical Israeli arrogance
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (01.25.11)
The average Israeli believes he is ten foot tall. They feel that the US is obligated to tow the Israeli line. We have our own interest and will conduct foreign policy as we see fit. Look at Lebanon slowly but surely becoming an Iranian proxy government right on Israels border and all they do is blow hollow smoke and blame others. Israel MAN-UP and take care of your self for a change and get rid of the religious nut cases who will destroy your country. Religion and politics don't mix and never will ie., Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, The Taliban, The Jewliban. It is the same sh*t that comes out of a very stinky narrow hole.
4. Obama's dreams are Jewish nightmares
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (01.25.11)
5. NO problem between Israel and the US, just between obumma
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (01.25.11)
and the desire of Israelis to live. Our muslum megalomaniac actually believed that HE would solve all the problems between Israel and the terrorists by making Israel concede. He stated that HE gave himself two years to solve what Carter and Bush 1 and 2 and Clinton and Reagan couldn't do in all their years. obumma is so out of touch he actually believes that he can bend the world to his will. He got the gullible Jews to fund his election. Then, he met his match, the smart Jews of Israel.
6. Obama and Netanyahu
Simcha ,   So.Cal.USA   (01.25.11)
Maybe it's a simple personality conflict or perhaps Obama is reacting to the fact that Isreal wont act as a brown nose to Obama.
7. Reliability
Michael Storch ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.25.11)
In that same piece, Politico also said: "Obama’s two departing senior aides, Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, were personally deeply involved in the Middle East talks, viewing them as historic and politically promising opportunities." Since we know how brilliant Obama, Emanuel & Axelrod really are, Poltico must have gotten this wrong.
8. Nr 3.
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (01.25.11)
Typcal US Clumsy Self-satisfactory Self-Importance. Further - The average Israeli believes he is ten foot tall. Comment - Then the Israelis is small in coimparizon to this - Sheik Rattle & Roll , USA (01.25.11) - We have our own interest and will conduct foreign policy as we see fit. Comment - -This is the US Tallness in this Regard thus - -Typcal US Clumsy Self-satisfactory Self-Importance.- Inteviening everywhere. Orao.
9. Will all respect, Obama should be attuned to America's most
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (01.25.11)
loyal ally in the region instead of attempting to dictate to it how to conduct its affairs in the face of on-going attempts throughout the Muslim-Arab world to wipe Israel off the face of earth. Mr. Obama has demonstrated how much he doesn't know the history of the region and the peoples in it, and how novice he is in handling the various players here. Instead of being the arrogant person that he is, he should take advise from people like Netanjahu and Barak who have faced the Muslim-Arabs both in the battlefield and around the peace negotiations table and know a thing or two about their partners and their true intent. But, I suspect, calling upon Jews and only Jews in a clearly racist way to cease construction in certain towns, villages and even city neighborhood is more popular in certain "progressive" circles in America, removed as they may be from understanding the reality of the region, thus Mr. Obama, a disciple of Rev. J. Wright and associate of Min. L. Farakhan, thus Obama's predicament. Perhaps it is time for a change..., in America...!!
10. Israelis fed up with Obama
Menachem ,   Israel   (01.25.11)
PM Netanyahu's task is to defend Israel's interests, not Obama's interests. Most Israelis are fed up with the hypocritical Obama administration who meddles in domestic Israeli affairs and pretends that Israel's ruthless neighbors behave like mother Theresa. Obama should mind his own business and focus on the real threat to world peace: Iran.
11. The US sinking in the quick sands of the M.East.
josef   (01.25.11)
To the American political paper. Never occured to you that Israel has tried to give Obama the benefit of the doubt as a prospective peace partner ? For haven sake; how much smaller do you want to see Israel?. Must we give, give and give until there is nothing left, then the vultures and hyenas can swoop in and finish off what the barbaric hordes, sated, could not swallow. For sane and objective men in the political arena, Obama's intransigence has surfaced a long time ago.The forced- feed of the health care to the American people was proof enough to gage the man, his stuburness, and surfacing again his islamic upbringing. His opening salvo 2 years ago left no doubt about his naivety regarding the machiavellian politics of the M.East. Today, he knows even less. Iran, Lebanon, Abbas, Hamas, Hezbollah, N.Korea, --- fiasco one after another.
12. US interests or Obama's agenda?
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (01.25.11)
They're not necessarily the same. While I'm not a fan of PM Netanyahu, I would say that this is a point in his favour. Are we a Banana Republic that must follow orders from Obama? Are we supposed to judge our leaders by their compliance with Obama's agenda? At least Netanyahu is not a total stooge of foreign interests, unlike some Israeli politicians I could name. Obama has shown that he is an unreliable ally, his foreign policy is a shambles, a total failure. Now, why would we want Netanyahu to follow the policies of an anti-Israel foreign leader?
13. No, it's the USA not in tune with Israel's goals
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.25.11)
The USA is not "mediating" between the two sides, but rather setting it's on imprint on the situation. If Obama was indeed "mediating", then the first goal is obviously to get the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. The Pals refuse to come, not because of the cheap excuse of "settlement construction", but rather because they are simply too weak to be able to negotiate a deal. Politico editors seem to think that oh, if only Israel toed the American line then the Palestinians would agree to sign a deal. Nothing is farther from the truth. The Palestinians are a two-headed monster, and Abbas in west bank Fatahland cannot reconcile with Hamas in Gazastan. Abbas cannot sign a peace treaty for the west bank only, and obviously there is no point to negotiating for the sake of negotiating. Abbas stays away because he's weak, Netanyahu is only too willing to oblige him. Neither of them have to make any decisions, and the Obama administration looks powerless. Which they are, since they don't want to twist anybody's arms, especially the Palestinians - whose arms would break anyway.
14. to nr. 10.
payer ,   planet earth   (01.25.11)
what do you think that giving us aid to the "chosen people" in their "promised land" since 1948 is also meddling in domestic zionist/israeli affairs and that the zionist/jews or the jewish zionists donot need the us anymore? success and mazeltov.
15. I hope this is true
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.25.11)
Obama supports the Saudi "peace plan" for the destruction of Israel and extermination of the Jews. Obama is a racist. His spiritual mentor is the Jew-hating Reverend Wright. Obama believes that Jews and Kurds do not deserve a homeland. Obama withdrew his troops from Iraq to reduce Arab casualties, but increases his attacks in Afghanistan killing countless Afghan civilians. He is so consumed with anti-Jew racism that he sacrificed American interests by allowing Iran to grow stronger. I do sincerely hope that Netanyahu shares nothing with Obama.
16. More leftist whining
American BC ,   USA   (01.25.11)
Politico, Thomas Friedman, FP, Time magazine - all birds of the same feather singing a singular song of the same tone....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
17. Friedman is Right - US Should Walk Away
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (01.25.11)
The US should walk away until both sides request, PUBLICLY, US mediation and bridging proposals. Time also to reduce US funding to the IDF back to Clinton era levels. We cannot afford it any more than we can afford the F-35 boondoggle.
18. #14 Keep the change, you need it more than us
Menachem ,   Israel   (01.25.11)
19. GOOD
Ron ,   USA   (01.25.11)
riddance to Obama's inept meddling..but Obama still will not let things alone. He will act against Israel via the UN, and in other ways. Abbas may get lynched by the folks he represents anyway thanks to Al-Jazeera. Kuwait and Gulf states are getting even for Pals cheering on Saddam Hussein invading ..a slow revenge
20. Politico is a Leftist rag
Merav ,   Tel Aviv   (01.25.11)
You have to take the slant of the magazine into account --and it is by its own admission on the Liberal side of the Left --when interpreting the articles. Don't take it as the gospel any more than you would a piece coming out of a Conservative/Rightist mag.
21. Regular posters said O was never going to B any blessing
Alan ,   SA   (01.25.11)
to Israel ,or even ME peace ,long before he was elected. (Even my own posts from that time). Im still confounded how a two year Senator (with only Chicago Community experience) becomes US President when VETERAN politicians of MANY years standing couldnt crack it! Can anyone explain this to me PLEASE!
22. Why should Israel follow Obama's lead if ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.25.11)
... it only leads over a cliff? As it is, all other US allies in the region are ignoring Obama's requests because they don't trust him, or think he's weak and can be rolled. Just look around the region. Obama's policies lie in shambles, partly because of his "outreach" policy, partly due what he sees as a "fierce moral urgency" to create a Palestinian state. He's lost Lebanon. Syria does whatever it pleases - and still gets a US ambassador as a reward for nothing. Saudi Arabia won't make a single gesture toward peace with Israel. Jordan and the Gulf states are doing deals with Iran because they don't trust the US to stop them. The PA refuses to return to negotiations with Israel (but gets money anyway). And Turkey has moved away from the Western camp. Given such successful "leadership", why should Israel - and only Israel - follow Obama's lead?
23. Obama is the scapegoat Israel loves to hate.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (01.25.11)
24. # 9 I agree with you, but we'll have to wait until next
Sheldon ,   Arlington, VA USA   (01.25.11)
elections to undo the error we did two years ago. I just hope Obama will not bring a disaster upon u until then, motivated by his hate for the Jewish people and its national home.
25. #22 - you're right... Israel should
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (01.25.11)
"go your own way"... stop looking over your shoulder to see is big brother is watching your back... he's not. Stop looking at big brother's wallet... it's empty. Stop peeking into the pentagon's garage to see what's new... build/buy your own. Refuse US military aid grant$... you are not a cripple, it's time to get off of welfare.
26. American Support
Deborah ,   Midwest, USA   (01.25.11)
Please don't mistake our current, and constitutionally questionable, president's relationship with Israel to represent the will of all American citizens. In my area of the country, we detest Obama's policies, including those that concern Israel. I, personally, am proud of Netanyahu's stance to protect his nation and people from the obvious threats that other nations, including my own, seem to dismiss.
27. Correction: Israel doesn't share Obama's goals.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.25.11)
Israel has much in common with America. Neither shares Obama's goals. Americans are rising up in huge numbers against Obama's plan to turn America socialist. Obama's plans for Israel are clearly to either destroy Israel or render Israel indefensible. These are obviously plans Israel doesn't share. However, polls consistently show the vast majority of Americans support Israel. Far more than support Obama.
28. #23 Israel is the scapegoat you love to hate
Menachem ,   Israel   (01.25.11)
29. it sounds good, thank you very much sir. let us make somethi
payer ,   planet earth   (01.25.11)
something out of it. success and mazeltov!
30. Goals? Who's goals?
valcanoman ,   Pt Hadlock, USA   (01.26.11)
Obama's goals and the people of the U.S.A.'s goals about and for Israel are not the same. PM Netanyahu do what is in Israel's best interest.
