What is this insane world we live in that an Israeli Jewish actress thinks that being able to read funeral prayers in Hebrew is impressive?!
2. GREAT News!
Israeli 2   (03.04.11)
How a GOY connects a JEW to Judaism! Or PERHAPS, Kutcher IS Jewish? Folks, it has all to do with the soul. (Neshama). Goyim could be Jewish and they don't even know it.
3. Ashton deserves enormous credit for rejecting the easy path
dante ,   uk   (03.04.11)
Ashton could follow his peers in the industry, mouth the same platitudes, espouse the same causes, etc. he has chosen a different path. the fact that he has visited Israel, does not hate/condemn Israel, is investigating Judaism and Jewish mysticism is an indication that he is something special. there is something profoundly decent and admirable about Ashton Kutcher. Heaven bless him and Demi,
4. So she's born in Jerusalem, but nobody taught har as much as
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.05.11)
Ashton about Judaism...? Where are the parents when you need them?!! By the way I think the Pope reads Hebrew as well... it seems to me like the old sying:" in the winter I'm a Buddhist in the summer I'm a nudist"... But maybe I'm wrong and it'll last.?- Mr. Leonard C. is a ordained buddhist monk after all, right? Oy !
5. It's always nice to read positive comments!
(03.05.11)
I always wonder how people that always have something negative to say must be feeling. Thy're not happy of course :-( How do the positive posters feel? They feeeling good of course and it shows! Let's all look for the go(o)d in everything today and spread some happiness around. Shabbat Shalom!
6. 3 - and if a jew rejects the easy path and explores jesus?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (03.05.11)
courageous? special? decent? admirable? no, meshumad.
7. Give credit where credit is due, or keep your mouth closed.
David ,   Hartford USA   (03.05.11)
If Ashton can read Hebrew, great! If Natalie learns something from him, wonderful! There is NO downside to anything in this article. A non-Jew who respects (and wants to learn from) Judaism and an American Jewish Hollywood-type who is proud to be one! How many other big name Hollywood Jews have the courage to say they are proud to be Jewish? Hardly ANY. They are too busy bashing Israel for 'offenses' found in 100 other countries but never can bring themselves to mention those other countries! It somehow makes these 'pillars' of Jewish America 'spokesmen' - when in reality it just shows a form of self-hating Jew. Natalie and Ashton are the winners here. Anyone tearing them down is simply jealous of their success. As my mother was fond of saying, "If you can't say anything nice about someone, keep your mouth shut!" The advice still stands.

You're right- it is pretty amazing when I non Jew takes the time to learn Hebrew and I congratulate him. As long as he doesnt pass himself off as a Jew or mix xtianity in with Kabbalah, which does concern me. As for Natalie, I'm glad she learned something but I wish her parents had taught her more- or maybe she had listened more. But everybody wins here
9. Abomination!
Phoenix ,   Israel   (03.05.11)
A goy cannor read Torah, it's forbiden. This is stupid and insane.
10. Kutcher seems like a good guy.
Zvi   (03.05.11)
And he's apparently had a positive impact on Ms. Portman and others around him and has earned their respect. Good for him!
11. To Insanity
A Shitrit ,   london   (03.05.11)
Israel and the Jewish people have for centuries has friends outside its faith. Right now, having good positive support from those in the public eye, is the best thing we as Jews can ask for. Hes not pretending to be Jewish. Wake up Mr Insanity
12. Surprising
Uziyahu Ben-Adi ,   U.S.A.   (03.06.11)
I'm rather surprised that Ms. Portman has never heard a better Torah teacher. Has she looked for one? She seems to be an extremely gracious person, so it may be that she is being encouraging. As for Mr. Kutcher, I always say that "a little Hebrew goes a long way". Can reading the Hebrew of Torah fail to make an impression on him?
13. #6: what is the point? Ashton has only rejected...
dante ,   uk   (03.06.11)
hatred, narrow-mindedness, prejudice. those are symptoms of a disease that afflicts many of his friends. when the world demands nothing of one, it is easy not to be a good person. it seems that he is a good man or is trying to be a good man. it is incomprehensible that some unhappy, discouraged, fool would try to diminish this by reference to some non-sequitur.
14. #9: The Phoenix
Israeli 2   (03.06.11)
Like I said: Perhaps he is Not a goy? Heh? He does read Torah and no one forbids him. No one today knows who is a goy and who is not.
15. Phoenix !
WALT K ,   Sherbrooke , Canada   (03.06.11)
Who are you to tell who has the right to read the Torah ?
16. Support is Certainly Welcome
leo ,   nyc   (03.06.11)
As others have stated above, stars in Hollywood are often loath to support Israel/Jewish causes. Ashton's interest and support appear genuine and no one should belittle his activities.
17. Natalie Portman
Pearl ,   Jerusalem   (03.07.11)
How very sad that a Jewish child, born in Jerusalem, knows so little about her own religion. We are failing terribly educating this generation if they have to learn about being a Jew from a non Jerw.
18. Ashton
debbie ,   israel   (03.07.11)
Shame on Natali Portman for not learning about her heritage and religion. If A. Kucher, who knows next to nothing about Judaism, be the best teacher she's ever had, the state of Jewish education is very sorry indeed.
19. Jewishness is Cultural, religion has no meaning. Kapish?
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.07.11)
20. WHY DOESN'T MR. KUTCHER CONVERT ALREADY???
(05.19.13)
ASHTON + JUDAISM = GET A ROOM ALREADY
