1. American football is not Israel's game
Yaaqob ,   israel (currently NY   (01.28.11)
And players risk concussions which cumulatively leave many neurologically impaired. Stop pretending to be Americans! Keep your brains. Play soccer! (Real football)
2. to # 1
Eli ,   Haifa   (01.28.11)
If they want to play football, let them play football. You stop pretending to be American. Come back to Israel!
3. To #1 - Stop promoting your weak, galus mentality
Mack Brownstein ,   Austin, Texas   (01.28.11)
Two points you shlubby Yankee: 1) Soccer celebrates the effeminate nature of Europe - the Lord Chamberlains, the the French, the practice of bending over. To promote it is to promote your own inner weakness, and I ask that you keep it to yourself - no one likes a wimp. 2) American Football is a game of champions - a sport for winners. Brains and brawn are needed to succeed on the field, and a spirit of defying the odds is what will see you through. The more I think about it - soccer is for pale, New York-y Jews like yourself. Football is for our Spartan, Israeli brehteren. Go Rebs.
4. to Yaaqov
gilgoul ,   Golan   (01.28.11)
football and rugby are games of thugs played by gentlemen soccer is just the opposite leave the concussions away, because soccer is no more israeli than football is.
5. Kol Ha Kavod to Itai Ashkenazi
Mike ,   San Diego, CA   (01.28.11)
Even though you broke my jaw on the football field in Tel Aviv 5 years ago...and didn't pay for the ambulance :) ...you are a good quarterback and a nice guy. Thanks for the TD passes and good time playing football.
6. Soccer sux. Go Lions!
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.28.11)
And I don't mean the Detroit Lions. :)
7. For # 1: Why not play a real Israeli game?
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (01.28.11)
Anybody got a dreidel?
8. Why you call it football?
Oscar ,   Guatemala   (01.28.11)
That's a game where you use your hands, don't use a ball and it's 80% commercials. It should be called Handegg.
9. To #3 Brownstein "GOLUS" metality
Yaaqov ,   Israel (currently NY   (01.28.11)
My criticisms of American-style so-called "football" have nothing to do with what you call "Golus" (which for your information is pronounced by Israelis, such as me as "Galut", but of course people like you from the Galut do not realise that). Also, I am not a "New Yorky" Jew--I am an Israeli citizen, born and raised, a combat veteran of IDF currently residing in NYC where I am a graduate student in neurobiology after which I intend to return to Israel, my home. You make a lot of assumptions about who I am, and if you paid attention where I wrote my location, put down "Israel --currently NY" Because of my studies, I know about the brain damage caused by repeated traumatic injury to the head that results from American so-called "Football". Perhaps you are a causalty of this. American football is alien to Israel's culture-- and it is mostly played by American expats who cannot give up their home customs. Even the "Palestinian" brothers on this team are ex-Californians, if you read the article. Real football (what Americans call "soccer") is a game requiring speed, alacrity, cleverness, efficiency and grace--qualities that Israel does not lack! The Israelis who play this US-style football sport are just aping the ape-like sport of the Americans.
10. Eli--to #2
Yaaqob ,   israel (currently NY   (01.28.11)
I am not pretending to be American, I live here because I am studying here. Don't make assumptions-. Most people can infer from the way I wrote down my location as Israel that I identify myself as first as Israeli--although currently (as in temporarily) NY
11. One mroe thing to Mack Brownstein from TExas
Yaaqov Uriel ,   Israel (Currently NY   (01.28.11)
You say "soccer is for pale New York-Y Jews--you obviously are unfamiliar with Beitar Yerushalayim, most of whose fans are Sepharadi/Mizrahi Jews, very tough guys, and very patriotic Israelis. They would all take exception to being told by a Texas Jew who watches NFL football and grows a beer stomach from his couch what is effeminate! As I said before, real football (what Americans erroneously term"soccer") is a game that showcases improvisation, quick-thinking and agility--the qualities that give Israel to success for decades! You yourself say American football is about brawn (and today it is the kind of brawn that gives head injuries--with 150 kilogram players!--that makes its players drooling addled people with Parkinson disease 10 years after retiring!). The American-style "football" will never be Israel's game! It's for the American Jews in the "Galus" like you say it, and the Israelis who dream of copying the USA.
12. Football
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.29.11)
Soccer is like watching grass grow. A bunch of guys dressed in underwear and ugly underwear at that running around trying to achieve the perfect score of 1-0. In this stupid game nobody even knows when it's over till the ref decides it's over. Bleeeech! Boringggg!
13. "Mikesailor" #7, an occasional respondent,
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (01.29.11)
shows his true colours: He despises Jews but normally masks it in anti-Israeli rhetoric.
14. LOL
Nigel ,   Amsterdam   (01.29.11)
I love soccer but I think that the people who ignore other sports (like Americans that ignore soccer) but I like to learn more about american football. Next time in Israel i'll go watch a game :) Way to go, peace all
15. Dor #13, Now I know you're not Canadian...
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (01.30.11)
Canadians normally have two attributes: a sense of humor and intellectual honesty. Unfortunately, you lack both. Pity really.
16. To Yaaqov
Yossef   (01.30.11)
Be successful in your study and come back soon בבית :-) i agree 100% with you BTW
17. I prefer baseball men in tights is not my thing.
