the base is ----circumstanses affect the identity more than the identity to affect the circumstanses --- but sure the identity is stable more than circumstanses .. it was before it is nowadays the differance is more changes in circumstanses and so do not supported on your identity against the hard blowing circumstanses --it will not be against democracy or freedom it will be destructive to the identity

34. TO GADY TAUB ! ! !
FO ,   Belgium   (01.28.11)
Instead of writing nonsense, take ten minutes and read just one article written on October 21, 1991 by Prof. Eugene Rostow (yes, indeed, the author of UN resolution 242). Try to find it on Internet under "Resolved: are the settlements legal? Israeli West Bank policies". All talkback readers are invited to do the same !

Salma ,   Palestine   (01.28.11)
The occupation is contrary to democracy . Occupation is contrary to international law and basic human rights. "Israel" is not a real democracy .
37. Taub isn't an apologist for antisemites
Ilan ,   Ariel   (01.28.11)

"..The more Israel gives, the more it shrinks the area in which we can live.... I think I heard this expression in the past spoken about a fellow with a little moustache in Germany in the 1930's. He called it LEBENSRAUM , remember?
39. to BESALEL OF GREAT NECK NY

41. Israel’s apartheid image
rina50 ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.28.11)
To Mr. Gadi Taub. First of all Mr. Taub you don't know the definition of the world Apartheid: "Apartheid - (apartheid) (in lang. Afrikaans apartheid - separation) - the most extreme form of racial discrimination. Means the deprivation of certain groups based on their race, political, socio-economic and civil rights." Tell me please Mr. Taub does Israel Arabs deprive from the voting, economic or social security benefits, medical care? Does Israel goverment demand separation for Israel Arabs and Jewis. Does Israel Arabs can't go in the same publical or official places as Jewish citisens? The answer on this questions is no. So why you said Israel have an apartheid image? Because this image belong just in your sick mind. Israel not a apartheid, but much better country than many of Muslim countries. All Israel citizens have the same social security, medical care and many other things, they would never have if they live somewhere else. So Israel didn't want to suply Gaza with goodies or didn't want people from Gaza and PA came to our country? They have right not to do it. The securiy of Israel citizens should be more importent, than some false "peace process'. For 19 years of this proscss Israel not got peace, but got katushot and terrorists attacks. So we have right to prevent terrorists to come in our country. If you are Mr.Taub like Palestine so much, you should stop to be a hypocrit and strip yourself from Israel citizenship and go live in Gaza or PA. You have no right to use Israel social benefits, medical care or live in the country you hate so much. This country already spent allot of money on likes like you, when what you do is trying to destroy it . It's not surprise you hate Liberman, because he can see people like you through. All of you leftis are hypocrits and enemies of Israel. You have no place to live in Jewish country. It's about a time we should have Israel citizenship loyalty law. If someone who was raised in Israel money and using Israel press to destoy his country, why they should be Israel citizens and use Israel benefits. people like you shoud be sent to live with people you love so much in Gaza or PA. Maybe than you would understand a defination of the world apartheid or genozid. I hope our next premier would be Liberman and than I would want to see what cowards and backstebbers like you would do?
42. response to 39
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (01.28.11)
I am very proud to be an American. No other country in the history of the world has been as good to jews and humankind. That being said, I am also proud to be Israeli and will return to Israel, god willing. But my point remains the same. Most settlement and most settlers are not the problem. Legally and morally there is little difference between the West Bank and the rest of the country. We should stop thinking of the West Bank as a seperate entity and begin treating all of Israel and one with Arab neighborhoods and Jewish neighborhoods that need to learn to live together.
43. Don't worry about the image: all Israelis are settlers
Esther ,   Netherlands`   (01.28.11)
according to the Arab media. Including the people within the green line.
44. # 42
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.28.11)
Your thinking is clouded;you have been away from Israel too long.
45. Besalel: A voice from the distant diaspora
Yitzhak ,   Hannaton, Israel   (01.28.11)
You seem to be another one of these American Jews willing to fight to the last Israeli. Why not put your tusik where your mouth is and move yourself and all your children to a West Bank settlement. Maybe if you get wounded from a Palestinian attack my daughter who is a medic in the IDF will risk her life to save yours. Meanwhile, your advice from 10,000 miles away is not only unwanted, but utterly useless.
46. Correct response to Big Lie propaganda is not capitulation
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (01.28.11)
There is no remote similarity between Israel and S. African apartheid, so there is no "correction" of "occupation" that is going to be satisfactory to these liars - the whole arguement is Israel=South Africa, a mechanism to deligitimize Israel, they don't care about "occupation", because they think Tel Aviv is "occupation". US occupation of WW2 Germany (with tens of thousands of US troops and their families in US-only reservations) was not "apartheid", it was insuring Germany was denazified and peaceful, and US would not have left and given their independence back until it was. The entire analogy is bogus, Jews are the majority, not the 1/16th minority the S. African whites were, and the separation is because there are 2 countries involved, not one, with the majority as servants. Taub's approach to the historic blood libel against the Jews, it seems, would be to either stop eating Matza, or maybe to volunteer to have the US Food & Drug Administration inspect all Matza worldwide to prove that it contained no Cristian blood or body parts. That is the problem with his over-intellectualized thinking that addressing the warped and fraudulent linkage between "occupation" and "apartheid" will eliminate the linkage instead of attacking the false "apartheid" claim at its source, people who want the "occupation" to stop but not at the cost of recognizing Jewish Israel and making peace with it.
47. So-called apartheid
Naftali   (01.28.11)
When will we learn that the anti Israel attitudes and attacks have nothing to do with the so-called occupation, but in the deligitimization of Israel and anti-semitism, I remember the mobs in Cairo and Damascus screaming "Slaughter the Jews" in 1967 before there was any so-called occupation.
48. We will have an opportunity soon
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.28.11)
With the collapse of all the Arab dictatorships we can end the occupation. Once the Jordanian government falls we can deport all of their citizens back to their own lands. Egypt won't last more than a couple of weeks, during that time we can send their terrorist army packing out of Gaza. Then the only apartheid countries will be evident. All of the Arab countries are worse than South Africa ever was.
49. aaaandd u forgot to say
pini   (01.28.11)
that if we give up all the land the pallys ask for and allow them to bring back 5 million pallys than israel will cease to exist within a matter of years not to mention that hezbollah type groups will take control and start firing missles into tel aviv and create an all out war killing thousands. ya, u forgot to mention that part.
50. To: No. 36
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.28.11)
Do you mind, dear? This thread doesn't concern you.
51. To the haters
Besalel ,   Great Neck, NY   (01.28.11)
I believe that when Theodre Hertzel had grand ideas and great plans for the land you live in now he too was thousands of miles away. One has nothing to do with the other. I am still in Israel plenty to see the situation which is this: we live too closely intertwined with the Arabs to create two hostile states in the region. You cannot have it that if you make a wrong right turn you end up in hostile territory. You cannot have the same type of peace you have with Jordan; i.e., you stay there and ill stay here; with the Pals. The two-state solution has been tried for thirty years and it does NOT work. It is time to annex.
52. stupid article
i.zwick ,   nyc   (01.28.11)
this article reflects so much stupidity and ignorance of the issues involved that I won't even waste my time and effort to comment on it. I'm surprised that YNet would publish such stuff, I would expect better. It's just very poor journalism.
53. Gadi Taub. You have no case. Hope U print this.
Eran ,   Singapore   (01.29.11)
Your tail pains because the NGO deservedly will be investigated weather you mutter,Apartheid or Mc Carthyism. Anyway, it is not against any law to do that. So, just take your tail and leave Israel via Ben Gurion Airport. Dont come back. People in Israel is SICK of your lies and NGO's moronic dialectics.
54. Our FM is a Settler
Golani ,   Vineland, USA   (01.29.11)
Our FM is a Settler. You make that sound like a bad thing. What I think of settlers, I think too of the "chalutzim". Most settlers are good people and follow the laws, but most settlers are also Zionists and a Zionist is also a good thing. Most of the world is trying to make Zionists and Settlers a bad name. Truth is, they are good, and they are positive. They are a part of the heart of Israel, and I feel that it is very anti Israel when you buy into the lies of making Settlers into something bad.
55. 35 - so what solution do you propose? ethnic cleansing?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (01.29.11)
are you interested at all in getting along with the reality of the situation that gentiles populate the promised land, or do you propose something be done to change it to more your liking? just wondering seeing how you have a long history of promoting hate and intolerance toward gentiles in general, arabs and christians specifically, not forgetting to mention those jews who don't share your prejudices and intolerance. so what exactly is your point in stating the obvious with such poisonous words? nu?
56. Not a realistic option, #51
Cameron ,   USA   (01.29.11)
You've been able to get away with nibbling away here & there, but outright annexation would place Israel in an absolutely nightmarish position on every political, military, and economic front in relation to the wider world. You would be embracing disaster.
57. Penty of Christian Countries
Hannah   (01.29.11)
Why is the existence of a 'Jewish' state, such a problem for the world? Only because they hate Jews. I live in a 'Xtian' country. I have the days off for Easter and Xmas. I have to take my own leave if I want to celebrate Pesach or Shavuot, or even Yom Kippur. I've never seen a Chanukiah in a public place but I've seen plenty of nativity scenes. I watch TV news feature the Coptic "Xmas' when only 500 or so live here. Have I ever seen one mention of a Jewish holiday in my country even though we number 5000 or more? Never. Here, all the religions live more or less in peace. But when pressed, it is obvious we are a Xtian country. I want to know there is one country in the world where I can be a Jew, 'Out and Proud'. This 'apartheid' business is just to disguise the age old hatred.
58. Useless
BH ,   Iowa   (01.29.11)
Stopped reading at the word "apartheid."
59. Ok Yitzhak, mike what are your ideas? do you want to live?
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (01.29.11)
What do you think is going to happen to Israel if it continues its current policies? (let alone going down the path of Shalom Achshav). You've been wringing your hands and apologizing for every shack and outhouse east of the green line for seventeen years now. Where has it gotten you? . Into this same mess that you now say is to grave to start digging out of. Well guess what, at some point, probably very soon, it really will be too late. That's a reason why people like Besalel and I left; we saw this coming (at least after Oslo), and we wanted to live in a decent country that wasn't hell-bent on self-destruction. But before you start bad-mouthing the diaspora, particularly in America, consider that it has been mostly we who have been working all these years to convince the American public that because Israel is a liberal democracy they have a moral and strategic reason to clean up your mess. It has been largely thanks to America that your many suicide attempts over the past two decades have failed despite the world's general willingness to oblige you. But guess what? There's a limit to it. Your insane self loathing has made you strategically useless, and even I'm having a hard time seeing the moral imperative of making sacrifices to save people who are so clearly intent on getting themselves annihilated. You seem to value so highly the opinions of people who want to destroy you, but you reject as hateful and arrogant the suggestions of those who still think your miserable excuse of a country is worth preserving. Fine, so be it, but if I may offer one last piece of advice: Desperate self-loathing will not protect you from destruction or make it any easier to bear.
60. Gadi, you're spot-on! Usually you're a rightwing apologetic!
