(01.29.11)
well lets see...if they go down the drain, what about jordan ? what happens if all these dudes gang up again on us all fronts, different times than 67, 73, etc. well then what?
2. No doubt
Ypip ,   Canada   (01.29.11)
If I hear ONE! derogatory This will be a tax burden upon you.
3. Time 2 Take Back Sinai ! ! !
Eddie Gondolieri ,   Parma, ITALIA   (01.29.11)
Another preemptive strike ought to do it! It could happen, in a perfect world. Israel NEEDS the Sinai back. Perhaps G-d wants Israel to have the Sinai back. G-d gave the Sinai to Israel 3 times before, it is PART of Eretz Israel!
4. The middle east is gonna get scarier
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (01.29.11)
I would not want to be in Israel's position if they had to focus on Egypt. Egypt has the 10th largest military in the world and they are armed very well. I know most of you will say look at 1973 we defeated all Arabs combined. I would say 40 years makes a big difference just look at 40 years before 1973. Israel's worst nightmare could be right around the corner and the only way out is to give back the Golan and assist with the creation of Palestine. I personally don't like the idea but you have to have total peace with all Arabs no matter how painful it will be. The bottom line is Egyptian people are anti-Israeli and if true democracy comes to Egypt that means the government will follow the will of the people and they will create an enemy state and who is easiest target. Look at Erdogan in Turkey he flipped faster than a pancake just to earn brownie points with the Arab world.
5. We'd have no problem if we'd kept the SInai.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
When the Mubarak regime falls, Israel's pathetic "reason" for ceding the Sinai will also vanish. As late Egyptian President Sadat admitted, Israel got nothing but a piece of paper in return for the incalculable military, strategic, oil and tourist rich Sinai. A horrendous deal for Israel. Had we kept the Sinai, it wouldn't matter who ruled Egypt. War with Egypt would be practically unthinkable. When will we ever learn that Israeli retreat is always disastrous?
6. this would not have happened
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (01.29.11)
in my humble opinion, if a country that can support about 30 million through it's economic activity, had that, and not the 80 million it does have to feed etc.. it can't be a gulf arab state with high percapita thus, it does not restrict population growth (which can be highly effective in a developing country, refer to china). no wonder food etc., is expenive. too many mouths to feed. they are architects of their own predicament. too high a population for their economy. perhaps they want to be un refugees and have 15 kids each family all paid for by the agriculture of darfur or some such like.
7. aswan high dam

9. IF not the radicals than whom,
E,M Jordan is Pales ,   S.F   (01.29.11)
IDF must prepare to take over of Sinai Peninsula.
10. Jordan is next
Rachel ,   US   (01.29.11)
11. #1 Not fundamentally different.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (01.29.11)
Israel is also well improved, and ready to kick the same ass it did in 67, 73 etc; and expand it's borders also, that's what.
12. If they're so worried...
Deborah   (01.29.11)
They could always get out of the Occupied Territories, including East Jerusalem, where Israel does not belong. That's one thing Israel could do for Egypt, if they were so worried, but like the U.S., they've helped the situation get to this point so... so sorry so sad but Mubarak will go, and who knows who will replace him?
13. really? take back sinai? are you sick?
Ryan ,   Sydney, Australia   (01.29.11)
I can't believe the rhetoric here. Your neighbors are standing up for whats right, for reform, for new leadership and democracy and you are commenting that you should take back the Sinai? No. You should stop trying to be bullies, stop being war mongers and start making peace. Take back the sinai? Show some compassion to your neighbors, not use their problems as a time to steal lands. And yes, I'm jewish. Just not a a jerk.
14. #12 - Israel doesn't belong in J'lem? You smoking crack?
MiamiBoy   (01.29.11)
also - re "occupied territories" - time you broke out resolution 242 and gave it a read.
15. IDF must be ready to retake Sinai if Egypt abandons peace
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (01.29.11)
Land for Peace means that if a new Egyptian regime reneges on the peace treaty and normalization with Israel, Israel has a legal and moral right to retake all the land it gave up for the peace agreement, and should be prepared to do so immediately, at the first sign of a hostile regime overthrowing Mubarak. One thing Israel can NOT count on is the Obama regine honoring past US security guarantees - therefore, Israel must act instantly, without waiting for Obama action or "blessing".
16. Spare Parts from the USA
zooog ,   US   (01.29.11)
If the radicals take over in Egypt and adopt an anti American and anti Israel stance, the spare parts for the armed forces will stop coming from America. The efficiency of their armed forces will start to fall and before long their army will be no better then in 1967..
17. We all konw the rule - "Life serves a lemon? Make lemonade".
leo ,   usa   (01.29.11)
Egypt attack Israel? Dump Gaza onto Sharm Al Sheikh.

Jordan attacks? Then WB becomes EB.

Syria wants to attack too? Lebanon? Anybody else?

18. @12
IZL   (01.29.11)
How arrogant for you to dictate where Israel does and does not belong. Israel is guilty of crimes when she wins wars (1967), she is guilty of crimes when she loses war (Lebanon 2006). There is no pleasing your kind is there? Whenever the wind blows this way or that way, Israel is to blame? Let me guess, Tunisia riots were due to East Jerusalem? North Korean nukes due to East Jerusalem? Let me explain politely why we fear regime change. The carnage that will ensue will not be pretty. In the past Israel fought secular dictators. The closest historical example of having to fight religious/fundamentalist states is that of Japan and Germany. The force that was required to defuse the situation was immense. We rational minds lament the horrid price placed upon these extremist states if they arise, indeed the game will be changed forever. This religious fundamentalism is a disease no matter from which religion it comes from. Israel was a country reborn to solve the problems of the Jewish world, I and my brethren will not accept blame for the problems of the world. Our rebirth was not to make all the worlds problems go away. It was to deal with problems we faced all throughout history. Proudly this goal has been accomplished and keeps getting accomplished so long as we exist in safety and security to the degrees that can be afforded to the situations we are in. E. J'lem and the settlements are strategic and afford us safety and security. Before Israel was there, Jordan was there. Before Israel was in Gaza, Egypt was there. In the vacuum created by Egypt and Israel not being in Gaza we have Hamas. Who is Hamas? Are they truly a Palestinian ideology? No. They are a radical Islamic ideology that is shared across countries by groups in the ME. Then explain Deborah, how this entity is doing anything for the so called Palestinian people. All I see is another Islamic state, espousing an ideology that's already existed. Here we all thought the point of freeing the "Palestinians" from foreign rule (egypt, jordan, israel, etc...) was to allow their unique identity to come out. I'm still trying to find these lost people, you call Palestinians. All I see is radical Islam mixed with Arabic culture. That's not exclusive to "Palestine". At least our culture in Israel is exclusive to us, and we at least have minorities within our borders. Pity instead of creating Phonecian, Palestinian, Copt, Armenian states, etc... We land up only creating more Arab states at the expense of unique peoples with their own identity. That my dear is the definition of colonialism. Israel does not seek to turn the middle east into Jewish/Israeli identity. If the Arab world wants true help, we will give (we are a giving people), but we will not put up with pundits such as yourself that look to blame us for other peoples problems. We will not vindicate the conquests of the Arab world, nor tolerate the libels leveled at us by ex-colonialists such as certain elements in Europe. It is no wonder why some in Europe take the Arab cause. Two declining colonialists offer each other comfort and convince each other they were good to the world. Perhaps a large portion of the world is sedated by generations of abuse at your hands, but the core who saw the rebirth of Israel and truly understood the meaning of our state refuse to be sedated. Perhaps it is you who could get out of your preOCCUPIED with Israel mindset.

21. IDF should take Sinai
Sam ,   Jerusalem   (01.29.11)
All Israeli will move there to the desert for 40 years and worship the calf again. Palestine will be free again...good idea and Congrats on Sinai
22. Israel Fears
HENRY BONK ,   u   (01.29.11)
#12 Deborah Please control your enthusiasm. Mubarak is still there, the demonstrators will have to get some sleep and food. And Israel is not in dire danger, sorry to disappoint you. People like you need to see reality as it is; danger to Israel is grave danger to the Arab world. But then you sound like a provocateur.
23. To #12 Deborah
Rachel ,   US   (01.29.11)
Give up Gaza and Judea & Samaria? Are you insane? Hopefully giving up Sinai doesn't turn into a disaster.
24. to 4
Z ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
Giving back land has nothing to do with anything regarding Israel's safety. If an extremist party takes over they more often than not stand by their rhetoric. The words, "we want the Jews dead" followed by, "all of them in the world" means that irrespective of Israeli concessions, these people won't stop there. No peace can be made with extremist government (ie, Libya, Iran) so to state the opposite, that giving up the Golan, strategic military location, and the West Bank, buffer zone to the East, is wrong. Fundamentalists stay true to their threats and have no regard for civilian populations when it comes to military actions. (See Hamas' leadership stating that a dead Palestinian is more valuable to the end of Israel than anything else). Yes, the Middle East is getting scarier and will continue to do so, but Israeli land concessions will have zero impact on whether or not war or peace comes to Israel and the Middle East, especially in an area of the world where concessions are a show of weakness.
25. Wow...
Michael Rosenblum ,   USA   (01.29.11)
I am just amazed by the comments I'm reading..."Take back the Sinai!...."bomb the Aswan Dam!" Really?! I mean c'mon let's not jump to conclusions maybe instead of war Usrael should engage in positive diplomacy...I.e restart relations with Turkey, the Palestinians, and just keep Thierry mouths shut about Egypt.
26. #5 Oh really Chaim
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (01.29.11)
tell mr. Smart fellow, when did you make aliyah and did you serve at all in the army? Wasn't the Yom Kippur war fought when we already had possession of the Sinai. How unthinkable was it then? The Peace treaty kept another war from happening for over 30 years. How many Jewish lives do you imagine were saved. And if there would be another war (G-d forbid) do you think we cannot retake the Sinai?
27. Road Map to Hell
Marcel ,   Florida   (01.29.11)
This is an ill wind blowing in Israel's direction and it's going to shut up the idealists and pragmatists for good. What we see spreading across more and more Arab countries reminds me of what happened with Hamas' 'democratic' takeover of Gaza. All of these developments are quite pleasing to the Mad Mahdi Clan of Iran. To those not drunk on the fake peace fumes it's evident that things are about to get much worse. The popular uprisings bode ill for the U.S. and it's dying influence in the region. The handwriting is on the wall in big, boldface. Prepare for the biggest and worst war ever fought because when the dust settles Israel will be the primary focus and next target as the cause for all that ails the Arab street. This is the price Israel pays for her pragmatic, idealist Covenant with Death,Road Map to hell and it has arrived at the doorstep.
28. What really-really is scary?- Not the probable take-over
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.29.11)
in Arab countries incl. Egypt, but the sentence: "The Egyptians are only addressed on the margins" ..!! Now if I, an average citizen ALWAYS knew in my bones that we shall have to "deal" with Egypt military at least one mor time, how is it that well educated people, trusted with my ass' well-being are only cosidering this scenario on the margins?! That is scary indeed. Poor us Israelis (at least the 50+ % that didn't buy into left-wing-lunatic "peace process". But we'll get it in the end because history always comes around for one more helping of the same....
