1. The article is correct!
michael redbourn ,   arad israel   (01.29.11)
Sadly, neither Obama (unless he's doing it on purpose) or the majority (perhaps all) of US politicians haven't a clue about Middle Eastern politics :-( After the US forced elections on Gaza, Hamas won and it's no longer a democracy. Mubarak contaied all the fanatical Islamic groups and if he loses power and is replaced by a "democracy" then the extremist Muslims will take over and "democracy" will be done for - ended! If the West seeks Islamic domination of all countries in the ME then it should seek the overthrow of Mubarak and demand "democracy" and if not then it should support him!
2. So...democracy is good?
Dan ,   Canada   (01.29.11)
It is possible to establish status quo with dictatorship. Is it possible to do same with theocracy? We should understand that democracy is a will of majority, while respect to the needs of minority. In theocratic democracy ,so to say, as we have in Iran, now turkey, instead of oppressive dictators we have populist dictators, trying to substitute social agenda with theology rethorics. Nothing changes. People just have different enemy to blame. Should west continue pursuing democracy for a sake of democracy? Should responsible parties focus on region stability?
3. 1979 - iran ?
eporue ,   europe   (01.29.11)
they were "inspired" by tunisia - which celebrated a huge victory: the president fled, and one relative killed... if they "win" now in egypt too (mubarak goes), and it looks very much so, then jordan will fall. middle-east-domino. iran still is the most deterrent example of a revolution: people want to improve their situation, but in the result go from bad to worse. egyptians wont accept any "brotherhood". the iranian did - 1979... and are still suffering from it... maybe, after jordan, mahmoud a. in iran will be hanged with a tie...
4. The new Egypt
Mike caton ,   USA   (01.29.11)
After the first rocket attack from the new, Iran-like Egypt, Israel must make plans now to retake all or part of the Sinai.
5. somehow i don't think what the
Barney ,   USA   (01.29.11)
majority of egyptians want is iranian type repressive theocratic regime. this is what the iranian people are rebelling against now. it is just a matter of whether the radical islamic thugs will be able to take advantage of the chaos to instill radical islam. if they succeed then the people have traded one kind of hell for another. i hope it doesn't happen but it seems the arab people are their own worst enemy.
6. The Iranian "leaders" should look in the mirror,...
Persian CAT   (01.29.11)
and then talk about repression and oppression, etc.
7. Soon our brothers in Egypt will take over
Arash ,   Tehran-Iran   (01.29.11)
And as a result, Freindly ties between the 2 countries shall be given a new chance....But first, Lets get rid of the evil in charge.
8. So what?
Eric ,   US Virgin Islands   (01.29.11)
The mullahs in Tehran want a theocracy in Egypt? Surprise, surprise. Well, I want Bar Rafaeli to knock on my door, but that that's not going to happen either. Long live freedom in Egypt!
9. Egypt
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (01.29.11)
I remember back in the 70's when there were massive demonstrations at my university in the United States and in the streets of Tehran protesting the Shah of Iran. This looks a lot like that situation back then. Then there were also secular protesting along with religious extremists supporting Ayatollah Khomeini. Carter supported the demonstrators forced the Shah of Iran to leave the country. We all know what happened after that. This is a tough call but if we openly support the demonstrators again if we do not have enough information about the motives and who is supporting the demonstrators the United States will have a disaster on their hands. What we don't need is another Iran. The United States cannot also be in a position to force a leader out solely because we give them money. One thing is clear is that there will be a probably a change of government in Egypt.
10. hey Iranian , plz shut up !
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.29.11)
It is not your business.
11. hey salma, what's wrong not happy with the way things might

12. Just Another Piece Of The
Brazen   (01.29.11)
puzzle, more proof to the west That iran is Looking to make a World Play As islam is the pretence? There was a TV show and one of the characters would say Danger, Danger. The Root Of evil starts with tehrahn and the mad mullahs, they can't controll the beast so chaos is just as good! Ripe time for counter ing their loss of controll?
13. Obama's chance to really be Carter 2...

14. #10 Salma
rob ,   Orangevale USA   (01.29.11)
You OK Salma? These are the first coherent words from your mouth in months. You must know that Iran will soon be your master if you get it your way. What's it going to be Salma?
15. vistors justice!
Durruti ,   UK   (01.29.11)
"After the US forced elections on Gaza, Hamas won and it's no longer a democracy." Hilarious! Neither occupied West Bank or Gaza are democracies mainly because they are OCCUPIED! Even the laughable Palestinian elections are no longer permitted by Israel if the 'wrong' party might win. Palestinian Arabs are denied a state and denied citizenship of the state which occupies them. Even Israeli Arabs are maginalised politically, economically and legally. Good luck to the Egyptian people, enough of Arab dictators propped up by Israel, the USA and the UK for their own interests
16. #9
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (01.29.11)
You described what US shouldn't do? Unfortunately haven't seen what US should do. To support an authoritarian regime which is shooting to demonstrators? It would mean further erosion of position of US in the world. Be silent? It's almost the same. So I would say that US should support current process in Egypt and look for partners for a future dialogue.
17. THE LAST DAYS OF MUBARAK
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (01.29.11)
Although the dictator and the puppet will not step down that easily and will still rely on USA to come to his rescue, there is less likelihood of USA responding positively as USA leaders are themselves concerned where their own position is in regards to Middle East. The dictator will cause more bloodshed in Egypt, destroy the remaining infrastructure, and will make sure that the new Government has more difficulties in restoring Egypt back to normalcy.
18. @Salma
Jnoubi ,   no where   (01.29.11)
whats wrong with you? it is business of every human what happening in egypt. its online warriors like you, who made palestine losing. iran did more for freeing the middle east from injustice than any state else.
19. An Anti-Shia-Muslim Government in Egypt ?
Orao. ,   Srbia.   (01.29.11)
Iranian leaders hope for Islamic republic in Egypt Comment - As according to Dabiel Chapter 11 vers 21 and Further - Egypt stands against the Shia-Islamic Ruler, the King of the North/Irak. So there could be a Possible Sunni-Government in Egypt, and that Sunni Government seems also to be in tune with the Defeated Sunni Government in the South/Saudiarabia.. Orao.Srbia.
20. 1979 Iranian Revolution against the Shah
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (01.29.11)
The Shah wasn't overthrown by the ayatollahs and the mullahs alone. The revolution had broad support from all sectors of Iranian society, the Tudeh party, secular leftists, trade unionists, etc...most of them didn't want the "Islamic Republic" that resulted. But they worked hand in hand with the Islamists to get rid of the Shah and then the crazy Khomeinist fundamentalist people turned on them and slaughtered them and took over. So what this Iranian guy wants is for the masses who don;t agree with the Muslim Brotherhood to go out on the street to GET RID OF Mubarak and THEN have the Muslim Brotherhood (or worse) take over. Well, if a fundamentalist regime takes over, they won't like Shiites so much.
21. Taghi Mesbah just wait and see when
(01.29.11)
people in Iran will do the same, but this time more vigurously, against your buddy ayatollahs and your vicious and lethal regime in Tehran.
22. @#4: No. Better stick the Gaza strip back to them instead.
Bat Zion ,   Central Israel   (01.29.11)
The fence is already down, and Bedouins rush in from Sinay. Hamas put forces to keep Gazans from rushing out, but I don't think it'll last. This seems like a good opportunity to get rid of the Gaza strip for good (no offence to our Gazan readers).
23. Chance for Israel
peter vojta ,   prag   (01.29.11)
This Worldwide muslim awakening will end in "muslim unity" - and surely will stop aggresion, injustice and colonization in arab world. ...This is earnet victory for Iran / land without history of wars of aggression / and this may be also "last days" of oppression for palestine people. This domino effect of revolutions may hopefully awaken remains of reasonable people in Israel and stop Zionist planet wars and horrors of aggression....its chance for Israel to humbly ask for forgivenes its neighbours and world community and enter through the Gate for "human approach", use its experience and function as "protector " of human rights, and abandon the fanatic and crazy ideas of some political and religious leaders, myths and lies.... peter czech
24. Remove 100 most popular, capable Egyptian Jihadist leaders
Simple Solution ,   Globe   (01.29.11)
Take out all the Brotherhood leaders in Egypt, all the Jihadist and Islamist leaders. Take the 100 or 200 most popular, most capable leaders and do away with them. Then that will help prevent regime change towards another Iran. Love how Iranian cleric fundamentalist who hangs everyone for a snack, talks about "freedom" what a Joke. How stupid does he think the world is? How illiterate do you have to be to see this guy has a shyt grin?
25. Muslim Brotherhood and Iran want to rule Egypt
(01.29.11)
Mohamed Mustafa ElBaradei the Iranian Traitor , the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran want to rule Egypt. They want Repression of women, prohibition of education, high unemployment, radical Islam as Iran, Somalia and under Taliban rule...
26. #18. You talk of Iran bringing justice right? Do you deny
Yaawqove ,   Israel   (01.29.11)

27. #7 Only to install another "evil"
Cynthia ,   USA   (01.29.11)
Arash, yet another assignment for you. You bragged about beating up protestors in Iran. Soon we'll be reading about you beating up protestors in Egypt.
28. @14 Not in your wildest dreamsya habibi!
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.29.11)
29. #28 Beware Salma
Ringo ,   US   (01.29.11)
Yazdi wants to bring the Islamic Revolution to your door. He is Ahmadinejad's spiritual advisor and advocates suicide bombings, political rape and torture and making slaves out of those who don't accept his form of Islam.
30. #10 - Salma, you guys are screwed
William ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
It was only because of the status quo in the Middle East and relative calm (and I do stress RELATIVE) that the world and Israel was able to focus on your issues. Now that all hell is breaking loose in Arab countries, which by the way is the only Islamic countries that are 100% totalitarian, the world's supply of petrol and political currency in the region are in jeopardy. Guess what? You're no longer a priority. No one will ever suggest that peace with the "palestinians" will bring calm to Cairo and Sa'ana. You are on the back burner. And further more, if you continue to push for a State, Hamas, now emboldened by the riots in Cairo and banking on the Muslim Brotherhood win there (and maybe in Jordan) with support of Tehran, will fight you every step of the way.
