1. Egypt
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (01.29.11)
I remember back in the 70's when there were massive demonstrations at my university in the United States and in the streets of Tehran protesting the Shah of Iran. This looks a lot like that situation back then. Then there were also secular protesting along with religious extremists supporting Ayatollah Khomeini. Carter supported the demonstrators forced the Shah of Iran to leave the country. We all know what happened after that. This is a tough call but if we openly support the demonstrators again if we do not have enough information about the motives and who is supporting the demonstrators the United States will have a disaster on their hands. What we don't need is another Iran. The United States cannot also be in a position to force a leader out solely because we give them money. One thing is clear is that there will be a probably a change of government in Egypt.
2. Sheikh Qaradawi
thelittlelady   (01.29.11)
This poor fella is still living in his bubble........ SHAME!!! If he really wants to know about the future (not history) he should buy himself a good Bible. All he will ever need to know is written therein. Happy reading sheikh and save your tears for tomorrow!
3. Hosni, be good Muslim.
Joe F.   (01.29.11)
Put these demonstrations as forcefully as possible, and don't be afraid to use extreme violence. In a worst case scenario, and you have to go down, you've taken out as much of the opposition as possible.
4. You Have To Ask, WHY?
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (01.29.11)
Why is he one of the "the world's top Sunni clerics"? What has he done to earn that position? Besides leading a movement that preaches hatred towards Egypt's leadership (as well as all things Jewish), what else has he done? Is he some brilliant theologian on the Koran? A man of proven genius and peace making skills. Of course not, he just your garden variety hatemonger, hiding like a Rat, in another country. No different than Nasrallah, who comes out of his Rathole to preach hatred and chaos, then runs back in his hole. So he detects a weakness with Mubarak government and now has jumped out of his hole for some self absorbed ego boosting. His need to feed his self importance, nothing more. Of course with basically 1/3 of the Egyptian population (in the under 30 age group) illiterate, he has a built in audience. The fools who know no better, and can't even read what anybody writes.
5. This is not like the Iranian Revolution
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (01.29.11)
What the Cleric seems to have missed is that the Egypt, Tunisian, and Jordanian protests are not like Iranian Revolution. Then people rebelled against western society and pushed for a return to Islamic ways, this is a revolution for more democracy and more open society. People are screaming not because of religion, as all of them are represented in these protests, but for jobs and open elections. The world will not make the mistake of Iran or Gaza of replacing one government with an even more oppressive one.
6. Israel must make plans
Mie caton ,   USA   (01.29.11)
It all boils down to this: Israel must plan now for retaking the sinai from an Iranian-style fanatical Muslin Egyot. More than that, it must prepare for a pre-emptive strike on a soon-to-be fanatical enemy right on Israel's borders.
7. #4 Literacy Is A Wonderful Thing But It Won't Feed You
World Citizen ,   the world   (01.29.11)
That's what they Egyptian man or woman on the street has learned. The American and Israeli governments have backed the dictator Mubarak just like they backed the Shah of Iran. What has literacy done for those governments? They haven't learned a thing. Now they will reap all the evil they have sown. It serves them right. Viva the Egyptian revolution and the Egyptian people! May they obtain the government they desire.
8. Ethiopia to Israel: I told you so!
EthioJegna ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (01.29.11)
I told you cannot rely on arabs for your source of security. Your security lies on the Nile River in the DAMS of TANA BELES and TEKEZE, built by Ethiopia. If Muslim Brotherhood is in power, they will declare war on Israel. you should counter the threat by supporting and securing Ethiopia's rights to the Nile River.
9. Israeli weeknes
B.A. ,   Göteborg, Sweden   (01.29.11)
Due to the inherited weakness of the Israeli government and army leadership, Israel is not likely to retake Sinai. Not even if an Egypt governed by the Muslim Brotherhood is installed in Cairo. As usual, all actions from Jerusalem will come to late.
10. #9 If a non-Mubarak led Egypt attacks Israel, watch out !!
(01.29.11)
11. so # 7 you are saying it is ok to be a retard
(01.29.11)
is this what you are saying? because if you can not read, write then you can not figure out what is going on around you and decide for yourself anything. i mean could you get along with being able to read and write? or do you just like to sound like an ignorant idiot. because if you can not read or write you have no future.
12. #8 Ethiopia ... worry about your own problems
Muna ,   Somalia   (01.29.11)
You have no rights to the Nile so I suggest you accept that fact. Not while you stole land through colonialism and complain about Egypt doing the same to you. You are hated in the HOA and frankly, instead of sucking up to Israel. You should be worried about the Islamists next door to you. You have many enemies and very little allies. Israel will stand by you against East Africa. Fool.
13. #12 "Muna" There is no such thing as 'somalia'
Ethiojegna ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (01.29.11)
There is Somaliland, Puntland, Jubaland, and Mogadishu. Keep in mind you don't have a government since 1991 and you have civil war. Keep killing each other. 85% of the Nile originates from Lake Tana, Ethiopia. We have 100% sovergnty over our rights to the Nile. Just worry about killing your own ISAAQ, HAWIE, DAROOD, MAJARTEEN death squads!
14. Muslim Brotherhood and Iran want to rule Egypt
(01.29.11)
Mohamed Mustafa ElBaradei the Iranian Traitor , the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran want to rule Egypt. They want Repression of women, prohibition of education, high unemployment, radical Islam as Iran, Somalia and under Taliban rule...
15. Qaradawi, go away !
(01.29.11)
16. #7; World Citizen, you picked the wrong...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (01.29.11)
Example, didn't you? You asked an important question: "What has literacy done for those governments?" By "those" you referred to whom? Well for Israel is has done a lot, as we see HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5tDDkvXSI8 But maybe it did nothing for the Arab countries...in your opinion...but whose fault is that?
17. #5 Nonsense
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (01.29.11)
There were secular supporting the overthrow of the Shah also, but the question is not democratic reforms which any civilize person agrees with but who will hijack the revolution and take control. The problem here is who started it was it truly a spontaneous revolt or was it planned by the Muslim brotherhood and Iran? Will this government honor Camp David if not say goodbye to the peace process
18. # 16
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
Kudos & thanks Mark.
19. let freedom and justice ring
EthioGrang ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (01.29.11)
Let people choose who they wanted to like the people in america as they choose who they want to lead them. Ethiopia is muslim majority country and have so many water resources. We Ethiopians need to have good relations with all countries in the world inorder to avoid conflicts.
20. New middle east
Leo ,   USA   (01.29.11)
Now the Israeli left and the world wide anti smites can rejoice, their favorite terror group(Muslim Brotherhood) will take over Egypt. What happens from here on is anyone guess. But one thing is for sure by the end of the decade the middle eastern will look much different. I'm confident that Israel will be the winner.
21. #11 & #16 We're Talking About Two Different Things
World Citizen ,   the world   (01.29.11)
Go back and re-read my posts and maybe you can figure it out. Here's a hint. The definition of stupidity is conducting the same experiment over and over again, with the same variables, and expecting different results. #20 Are you sure about that? The paradigm is shifting. Israel may have nuclear weapons but how long can she fight an asymetrical war when the casualties begin to mount?
22. Sheikh Qaradawi is the big idiot in Qatar !
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.29.11)
23. Abbas it next
Joseph ,   Palestine   (01.29.11)
Abbas is the next failed dictator to fall. All his security collaboration and arresting militants to safeguard Israel has achieved nothing for his people EXCEPT continued occupation, more and more settlements, and colonization of E. Jerusalem. Abbas you are a weak coward puppet leader for Israel and America...your turn is next to join Mubarak and Ben Ali. The Palestinians need a strong leader who will stand up against Israel, not sell his people out for nothing like you have done.
24. # 1 Egypt
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (01.29.11)
Ralph ! Only an Egyptian magician can predict what will happen in Egypt after Mubarak, the Army, who ruled Egypt after the bloodless revolution in 52,did not make the Egyptians rich, but provided stability, will the Army, that has the last word, continue the policies of mubarak with some changes,or the Muslim brotherhood cells like in the pakistay army, will join forces with the Muslim brotherhood and create another Iran subordinating the Army to the top mula of Egypt, the problem with such a scenario,is,unlike Iran, which is a rich country,Egypt is a poor country,it's main income is from tourism, with sharia the law of the land, tourism will stop,on the other hand, the Egyptians are devoted Muslims, and as such, need little food, and a lot of sharia, which the new fat cats at the top will be more than happy to provide them with.
25. # 21
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
Hello, wake up will you. If Israel would launch her nuclear weapons, there would be no more Middle East. We would all be dead & dust.
26. # 22
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.29.11)
and you Salma are the big idiot of Ramallah !!
27. New middle east
Leo ,   USA   (01.29.11)
to # 21, 22 and all of you. no matter what happens in Egypt. The realty is the middle east is changing, (for better or worst) next is goodbye to the King of Jordan, after that watch the decomposition of Iraq, when that happens all hell will break lose. Turkey will be next for a chaos, Then you think Sunny Syrians will let the Alevite run their country? How about Christian Lebanese? Israel has to keep her cool and let her enemies destroy themselves.
28. re: #24
joel ,   usa   (01.30.11)
it doesn't need a "magician" to determine the outcome of this protest in egypt, their pres. mubarak should command his army to contain & control the protesters, in any ways possible if they continue in violence & crimianlities, never mind what the western countries think, they haven't live an egyptian life and they know nothing about survival in egypt & elsewhere in the poor & corrupt country; freedom and democracy is not the way of life for most muslims in these places, they should try to live and test there before they open their bigmounths! a violent force can only be overcome by a much stronger force, not by appeasement in practicality!
29. re: opinion of #17
joel ,   usa   (01.30.11)
your analysis is very practical & reasonable, all these al qaeda & terrorisms, MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, ELBARADEI & bloodshed are fully supported by the barbaric regime in Iran, saddam of Iraq was the only person the barbaric regime in Iran was so scared of, now Satan have let loose again this regime and it will take Israel to destroy it, if Israel wanted to? WHEN SHOULD IT BE, AND THE SAUDIs WOULD HAVE MUCH JOY TO HEAR THAT NEWS!
30. #21; World Citizen, Yea right
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (01.30.11)
Oh I see teaching people a normal education is and experiment? We don't agree that because the U.S. or Israel, support a government that makes it evil. The fact is the new government in Iran the has nothing to do with the U.S., you think is a better government than the Shah of Iran? How's that? The people in Iran do they have more freedoms, and better lifestyle than under the Shah? Really, why are they rioting in the streets there also? Why has the Iranian government just hung at least 8 people (who were protesters) among the 64 they hung since the beginning of this year, and the month isn't over? So what grand experiment was a failure? Repeating what exactly over and over equals stupidity? Since the same results are found without U.S. involvement. Maybe the results are always the same because the people involved (Muslims) just don't get it. It's the "culture of death" mentality taught from youth, that's the problem.
