1. Hypocrites
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (02.02.11)
Let me see if I get this correctly. It is unacceptable for Jews to move into Arab neighborhoods. The Left wing and the left wing NGO's protest this most vehemently. It is also unacceptable for Arabs to NOT be allowed to move into Jewish neighborhoods. When will the lefties get it--you can't have it both ways. WAIT!!! I get it--these lefties are Pro-destruction of Israel and Pro--yet another Arab/Muslim state in the Mid-East. I guess in the interest of being modern and worldly they are willing to commit suicide!
2. Good for Israel
SAM ,   ME   (02.02.11)
The more racist it becomes the sooner Israelis will wake up and say hold on a moment this is wrong. Or at least i hope so.
3.  "socially unsuitable" !!!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.02.11)
just remember that when the Jews fled to Palestine and many Arab, Muslim countries , NO one said that they were "socially unsuitable." it's the right of citizens to choose their place of residence, isn't it?! Wake Up & Smell The Racism.
4. apartheid
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.02.11)
And when the world condemns us as an apartheid State, the racist politicians and their talkback stooges here will yell their usual chorus "Antisemites !! Self-hating Jews !!! Hypocrites !!!" until such time that the world hits us in our pockets
5. Needs to go both ways
Lisa ,   Israel   (02.02.11)
Personally, I'm looking forward to the day when Salma can come and live next door to me in my neighbourhood and when I can go and live next door to her in a Palestinian town. I think it will take a long time before both sides are ready for this, though...

9. Democracy in name only
Shlomo Kamera   (02.02.11)
This simply does not happen in any other democratic country. Imagine if a similar law was passed in the USA, deeming blacks, or whites, or Indians or Hispanics, or jews "socially unacceptable" to live next to the dominant inhabiting race! Israel is a failed experiment. Lets close Israel down now!
10. Are Jews allowed to live in Arab villages in Israel?!

14. to # 4
tejas ,   India   (02.02.11)
I challange you to go to Tayibe, purchase land ther and live among Arabs. Just live there for one day. Would you do that? I just can't stop laughing. How people living in Israel can be so much ignorant about things going on exactly under ther noses.
15. #3 Salma
solomon ,   bklyn   (02.02.11)
You are "forgetting" some 'minor' details: 1. Jews first came to Palestine willingly, bought land from the Arab owners and set up their own communities. 2. Many Jews fled to Palestine after being kicked out of the Arab countries. Everything they owned (land, money, etc) was taken from them. Many were killed. They were not able to choose their place of residence even thought they had lived in the Moslem countries for longer than Islam and declared socially unsuitable in the extreme. 3. But you know all the above. You 'just' ignore inconvenient facts.
16. @13 Not propaganda but the truth,
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.02.11)
STEPHAN , It's not my problem if you do not know the Jews history after World War II, Go educate yourself please!
17. #5 Liza the nice lady,
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.02.11)
you're welcome to be my neighbor, and not my occupayer : )
18. So Israeli Arabs can now create committees too?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (02.02.11)
What is the definition of communal settlement under this law? Since it only applies to the Negev and Galilee area, will high court strike it down for being to narrow in focus?
19. Quit with the hyperbole
Nic ,   UK   (02.02.11)
Ok so let's get this straight... This is a law that allows residential committees in planned communal settlements (which share use and responsibility for utilities, waste management et cetera) to vet candidates for residence? Isn't that the same thing that happens in the US with co-operative buildings, gated communities, and new developments with neighbourhood associations? If there's the possibility of abuse then all that's needed is an ammendment to said law.
20. double standard used here
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.02.11)
Can a Jew buy a house in beautiful downtown Rammallah or metropolitan Jemin? NO WAY!! Let them open up some nice housing for us, the despicable hypocrites!!
21. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
Forgive us if we do not wish to live cheek-by-jowl with "people" who wish to kill us. The record is pretty clear on that -- about seven decades worth of Arab violence, belligerence and unremitting terror. Citizens may choose their places of residence. Communities may set the standards. I don't want you in my neighborhood. That does not make me a racist. It's not as if I wish to live in Tulqarem or Umm al Fahm. My neighbors would burn my house down the first night I spent there. So what mystifies me is why you might want to live in my neighborhood when you don't want me to live in yours. If I can't live in a pretty Arab town in the Galilee, why should I let you live in my town? It's the Arabs who are the racists here.
22. I really don't understand the fuss
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
Every cooperative apartment building in New York City -- and likely throughout the United States -- has a board of directors and a committee that has the absolute right to accept or reject an applicant. Communities in the United States still maintain unofficial (and illegal) housing covenants, and real estate brokers routinely steer prospective home buyers to particular neighborhoods. Does that make the United States an apartheid nation?
23. To: No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
Israeli Arabs do not have to create committees. A Jew who might try to purchase a home in an Arab town would not survive the night. That's even more effective as an exclusion policy than a committee, right? So why aren't you accusing Israeli Arabs of exercising apartheid?
24. To: No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
So how do you account for the fact that nearly one million Jews were expelled from the Arab and Moslem lands in which they had lived for countless generations?
25. To: No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
Ever tried to purchase a cooperative apartment in the United States? Clearly not. There are boards of directors and applicant review committees that can reject an applicant and don't even need to give a reason. Shall we close the United States down, too? Fool!
26. ?arabs are a race?
Avi ,   nyc   (02.02.11)
Please use your terms appropriately, Since arabs are not a race and are of similar stock to Jews this is not racism. People like Hiafas Mikey should consult a dictionary,
27. to 23 . Sarah
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.02.11)
A Jew would not survive the night ? how do you know ? The question is more : would a Jew WANT to live in a small Israeli Arab community . I would not want to live in some Jewish places in Israel either .
28. Sarah , 22
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.02.11)
The cooperative board CAN'T do everything "They can reject prospective purchasers without explanation, as long as the board does not violate federal and state housing or civil rights laws" [ wikipedia ] But it are COOPERATIVES , not communities . A big difference .
29. Larry , 20
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.02.11)
Does a Jew WANT to buy a house in Ramallah or Jenin ?
30. To: No. 28
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.02.11)
Charles, some cooperative apartment buildings in New York City are larger than certain communities. And they function in a like capacity. Also, since a ccoperative board can reject a prospective purchaser without providing an explanation, how do you propose to go about proving that a federal or state housing or civil rights laws may have been violated?
