1. Nine years?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.03.11)
For a traitor? She belongs on the gallows.
2. The Failings of the system
J ,   Israel   (02.03.11)
everybody knew that she would not get what she deserved: life in prison.. Kam endangered state security for years to come, but due to her family connections she is getting off the hook.. hopefully the plea bargain will be rejected and she'll be locked up forever.
3. It always surprises me when people...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (02.03.11)
Violate the trust of their country. I don't agree that she didn't intend to harm Israel. How couldn't she understand that? The fact is all governments engage in spying and things that are sometime better not reported. But we live with it, so we can have a free press. For instance here is the U.S. after 9/11 Osama Bin Laden sent a video making his threats and claims and basically sticking his thumb in our eye. What happened? Well, we used clues on the video to track down where he made that video. Our free press got hold of the story and reported how we did it. Using the rock formations in the video they consulted geologists from all over and were able, based on the geology formations in the video to figure out roughly where he was. The free press blew it, gave away an important secret, the result was predictable. Every video after that was made with a blanket or sheet behind the person speaking on the video, so no clues could obtained. It ticked off a lot of people, but unfortunately that's the price of a free press. Sometimes inadvertently, or knowingly, they damage the very country that provides the freedoms. But I'm glad the woman will get 9 years in prison. She deserves it.
4. there should be no plea bargain given to this traitor
zionist forever   (02.03.11)
She should be locked in solitary with Uri Blau in the cell next door for the next 20 years. Traitors deserve no mercy. I juist hope if the prosecution accepts a plea bargain then she will be given maximum sentence allowed under terms of the deal and there must be no chance of parol... let her rot in jail where she belongs. The state must aslo go after Blau who has done everything he could not to cooperate even refusing to return stolen documents. We must make other journalists & especially Haaretz understand there is a fine line between journalism & treachery and they need to tread that line carefully or else they will be writing articles on what it is life is like in jail.
5. Prosecutors get lenient when leftists are charged
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.03.11)
Prosecutors had what we in the US call a "slam dunk" case against Kam. The same held in the case of Tali Fahima a few years ago. Yet they chose not to take those cases to trial and seek convictions, but only to seek a plea agreement on lesser charges. Were they just lazy? Or did they not want the full force of the law to be used against one of their own? And Fahima, well, she served a total of three years - then converted to Islam.
6. A disgrace to her family
Israeli patriot   (02.03.11)
How could they have not educated her with the basic values of loyalty to our country? We have more than enough enemies without our own citizens doing the work of their spies. Apparently army officers do not pay any attention to morale in the jobnik departments. This is far worse than stealing a senior officers's credit card.
7. Plea Deal for Kam
jeremy ,   hula valley kibbutz   (02.03.11)
If the deal is accepted, I hope she has to do the full 9 at least, without time off for good behaviour or time under house arrest and let the time be in prison. No where has anyone said, that she regrets doing what she did. Stupid children like her, need to learn lessons from their behaviour.
8. Not enough. It should include community service
rebecca ,   Modiin   (02.03.11)
with kids hurt by terror. Let her see the potential of what she's done. Wither way it's not enough.
9. EXECUTE TRAITORS!

She's hotter :)

12. What this little dimwit did was endanger my sons
Al   (02.03.11)
who serve protecting the State and her sorry ass. I count her a traitor, she nothing less than life in prison with no parole.
13. 9 minus good behavior, etc
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (02.03.11)
It is lucky that these are lefties, a settler would just rot in jail.
14. James, Austin: For what it's worth, all
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (02.03.11)
photos of Anat Kam portray her as plain, perhaps even dowdy and certainly unattractive.
15. to #10
John DeLancy ,   Alaska, USA   (02.03.11)
She is cute, but she's a traitor. Pollard deserved a plea bargain. She's getting mercy, which I am never able to speak against. The good here is that Israel was made aware of vulnerabilities in their security, so they can be better protected in the future.
16. When harming national security is a political agenda....
adam eliyahu   (02.03.11)
The entire "Peace Process" is focused on destroying national security. In every other country in the world, it is illegal to travel to a declared enemy country, let alone meet with their government officials. Shimon Peres broke this law many times but it only became public knowledge after he returned with a signed agreement from Arafat (a man wanted for multiple murders by the Israeli authorities), an agreement he had no official right to lace before Arafat. Now, Israel is caught in a legal mess where public officials, arab and jewish, travel to hostile countries with impunity. This case sets a dangerous precedent. I am sure this will set the stage for future negotiations, ones in which Israeli negotiators will reveal state secrets to further the peace process. That is no more absurd than uprooting ten thousand civilians from their homes for "unilateral peace" (a clear oxymoron) or "precnditions to negotiations" also a contradiciton in terms.
17. The law is an ass
citizen   (02.03.11)
Espionage but without intent to harm state security?? So what exactly did this traitor think she was doing if not harming state security? What is this, kindergarten? She, Blau and those in charge at Haaretz should be in prison forever.
18. This traitor should be done away with
Dan S. ,   USA   (02.03.11)
And so should this Uri Blau character. I think that there should also be a military (not corrupt civilian) police raid on Haaretz's headquarters and facilities in light of this treason with arrests made. A message needs to be sent to these so called "journalists" and Israeli Intelligentsia once and for all.
19. Whole Mossad should be locked up in prison
(02.03.11)
After all, spies are spies.
20. Life in jail, not 9 years. The Left is rotting Zionism and
Observer ,   Globe   (02.03.11)
Jewish state. All doubt removed a long time ago.
21. RADICAL ATHEIST LEFTISTS are the ENEMY
Jason   (02.03.11)
22. # 12
Birdi ,   Israel   (02.03.11)
Not only yours sons were/are endangered by this halfwit of a girl, every single soldier in the IDF included.
23. Plea
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.04.11)
Will she convert to Islam, like the other traitor: fathima ?,and who is financing such an expensive lawyer like Avigdor Feldman?.
24. KOL HAKAVOD
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (02.04.11)
Yet another proof of how corrupt and injust our internal enemies are. She for sure will end up in the knesset , her credentials are good for that.
25. Something Is Not Right
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (02.04.11)
She admitted to STEALING the documents, sat for how long under house arrest (guess prison toilet paper is too rough for her sorry ass), and now gets a slap on the wrist? Somebody got bought off. But the truth is, nobody gets away with anything. She'll get hers.
26. incredulous
Li ,   USA   (02.04.11)
It boggles my mind that despite all the lessons Jews have learned from history, there are still many Jews who place loyalty to country above plain ethics. Kamm exposed serious unethical and illegal activity (targeted killings). Judaism before Zionism.
27. #26
bennie ,   W. Galil   (02.04.11)
What are the lessons of history. A people, unwilling to stand together, will inevitably become victims to their enemies. to paraphrase A. Lincoln. Anyone who has served in the IDF knows that "purity of arms" is a central doctrine . We will not be driven to inaction by this left wing assault on our duties as citizens
28. 26
zionist forever   (02.04.11)
When was the last time jews ever actually learned from their mistakes? They continue to assimilate and make the same mistakes previous generations made. Israel is a prime example of that. We have seen what a disaster oslo was but we keep just rebranding it and pushing for it. Its been nearly 20 years now playing with the failed peace process and we keep telling ourselves we can have peace with the palestinians if we just make enough concessions.
29. A One-Sided Bargain Doubly in Favor of Kam?
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.04.11)
Has no one noticed that this "bargain" involves *leniency from the prosecution* regarding the nature of Kam's crime, and *in-turn* Kam will receive *leniency from the the State* regarding the maximum prison time it will request? The article is calling this a plea bargain on the basis of the demotion of the gravity of the conviction "in exchange" for demotion in the lenght of the sentence. Has NO ONE noticed that this does not make sence? A more concise way to call this a "plea-bargain" would be to state that the prosecution would drop the charge of of undermining state security AND ask that the sentence does not exceed nine years and, IN TURN, Kam will agree to plead guilty. But this is not what the news article states. Or, perhaps, is this a "plea bargain" between "the prosecution" and "the State"? And, if so, what are we as citizens to derive from this: That the prosecution and/or the State has a special interest in minimizing the crime committed by Kam as well as the length of her time in prison? Is this not a red-flag to the intelligent readers that an Orwellian State Agenda is in the works? Seriously. Anyone?...Anyone?...?
