If we did do a deal with Abbas now and Hamas or others didn't like it they would argue Abbas had no right to make the deal because he legally is no longer president. For now at least there is no peace process because we have Abbas acting like a child by refusing to talk without but also those so called palestine papers have really killed it because it showed Abbas w as willing to make some of the concessions which has been seen as treacherous and and Abbas has lost alot of his credibility as a result. So any future president is not going to be able to make concessions without being seen as a traitor. The worry from Egypt & the ripple effect its causing in other parts of the arab world is Hamas gaining the political support it needs from Egypt or other arab states and if the new Egyptian government is sympathetic then Hamas may get the politicial & military support to topple Fatah in Judea and Samaria That may even leave them with the strengh to make trouble in Jordan where 65% iof the population are palestinians. If Assad goes in Syria the alternative will almost certainly be the Muslim Brotherhood & Iran. When Obama the peace making president may have ended up being responsible for the tearing up of the existing peace treaties and regional instability like we haven't seen for decades.
