Nasty fire. Kol Hakvod to the firefighters who did not let off their sirens in the middle of the night and scare the bejeebers out of us. Don't know if they will rebuild there, and don't care since I hate IKEA products, but I would like to know how tar becomes flammable in the rain. It rained all night, but I saw no lighting nor heard thunder. Now, can we buy 21st century fire fighting eqt please. Fire has come to Israel, it would seem.

4. Yes, it's sad
Nemia ,   sea side Israel   (02.05.11)
It was always a little like visiting "abroad". We bought a lot of nice things for the children's rooms there. Always many young families around. I hope they'll rebuild and reopen soon. And I sincerely hope that it was no arson.
5. IKEA?
Dr Yeruham Leavitt ,   Kiriat Arba, ISRAEL   (02.05.11)
Would someone kindly explain what is IKEA? Not all of your readers are in this modern, Westernized world. Best wishes to all,

Dave ,   Caesarea   (02.05.11)
If you actually live where you say you live, you would not have posted this on Shabbat. And I don't think there are any people in Israel who read an English website and post, but do not know what Ikea is

8. to #5 what Ikea is
chava ,   Herzliya   (02.05.11)
Ikea is a chain store from Sweden that creates cheap and functional house wears. This includes furniture, kitchen supplies, sheets, lamps, bathroom items, ect ect. It's well worth the trip if you've never been
9. To the Ignorant Monolithic Thinker
Jameel ,   The Muqata   (02.05.11)
Its sad you're so biased in thinking that every person living in Kiryat Arba or the settlements is exactly like the stereotype you mistakenly believe they live in. Kiryat Arba is full of Jews, secular and religious, rightwing (and even leftwing). Should I write that everyone in Caesarea is ignorant and bigoted? Not everyone knows what Ikea is. Jameel Rashid. The Muqata
10. IKEA isn't open on Saturday
Talula ,   Israel   (02.05.11)
Wondering what other reasons stupid people will come up with as the cause. I feel so terribly sad for the employees who have no job to show up for in the morning.
11. Don't know what IKEA is?
Talula ,   Israel   (02.05.11)
OH COME ON!!!!!!!!! What are you living in a cave? I guess you must be!
12. I feel sorry for the employees & customers
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.05.11)
of IKEA However, the founder of the chain is among the wealthiest men in the world He does a a history which he would prefer to have it remain hidden & untold "Fascist involvementIn 1994, the personal letters of the Swedish fascist activist Per Engdahl were made public after his death, and it was revealed that Kamprad had joined Engdahl's pro-fascist New Swedish Movement in 1942. Kamprad had raised funds for and recruited members to said group at least as late as September 1945. When Kamprad quit the group is unknown, but he remained a friend of Engdahl until the early 1950s.[12] Kamprad devotes two chapters to his time in Nysvenska Rörelsen in his book, Leading By Design: The IKEA Story and, in a 1994 letter to IKEA employees, called his affiliation with the organization the "greatest mistake of his life
13. Thank you, #9
Dr Yeruham Leavitt ,   Kiriat Arba, ISRAEL   (02.05.11)
#9,, you are absolutely right. It is also not surprizing that someone with a name like Jameel Rashid. should come to my defense. Kiriat Arba has never been a religious settlement. It has always been mixed. And many of us have always had good relations with our Arab neighbors, even though we consider the "peace process"stupid. As for "living in a cave" #11 there are more important things in life than popular, commerical culture.
14. I feel for IKEA like they feel for us in the periphery!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (02.05.11)
IKEA, for those who don't know like #5, is a furniture chain which is owned by a Swedish parent company. The Swedes really love Israel don't they! IKEA has totally ignored the people of Israel who live in the north and the south of Israel so we don't really care a damn! Yes, I do feel sorry for the employees but let's see how the Swedes will look after those whose livelihoods are threatened by the fire. I am sure the management of IKEA will react in the normal Israeli way: put them on unpaid leave!
15. now i rejoy over justice done against the anti israeli chain
joe ,   kfar saba israel   (02.05.11)
i fell sorry for the lost of jobs but as i remember the swedish country boycotted israel to support a palestinian people and many people like me decided to boycott IKEA its good to know that we will not have to spend our time boycotting them in natanya anymore before the swedish nordic country decided to boycott israel i was a regular customer of the branch but since what happened i changed my mind by not byuing anymore of my shequels there

Eric ,   Bet Shemesh   (02.05.11)
There is a nice IKEA that opened in RIshon last year. In that branch, the parking is underneath the building, keeps the car nice and cool in summertime and dry in the winter. Enjoy!

Dr Yeruham Leavitt ,   Kiriat Arba, ISRAEL   (02.05.11)
#18, thank you for your advice. I've heard about Google and even use it. But I prefer to ask questions of real people. I learn more that way. And perhaps the others learn something as well. Very best wishes to all,

David ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (02.06.11)
Hi, I am Swdish Jew living in Stockholm, Sweden, and I am surprised to see that you believe that there is a Swedish boycott against Israel. Well there is none, my food store has many many fruits and vegetables from Israel. However, there are many around the world that are boycotting Israeli products, in the UK and USA and elsewhere. But in Sweden, no! Shalom, David
