31. Any moral person, not just Egyptians
Carlos ,   NYC   (02.13.11)
hates Israel for what they have done and continue to do to Palestinians. Instead of advising Egyptians look into your own dark souls and inhumanity.
32. #23 logical solutions.
Ihab ,   Lebanon   (02.13.11)
Logical solutions. The whole state of "Israel" is based on biblical myth and you dare to talk about logical? Pls, don't try to debate this fact, as according to the bible, the civilization is only 5000 years old.
33. Very strange article.
leo ,   usa   (02.13.11)
If Egyptian intellectual blames Israel for Egypt's ills this person is hardly an intellectual and talking to such person is only waste of time. On the other hand true intellectual does not need to answer all this nonsense:

"Does Israel prevent young Egyptians from finding honest work offering decent pay? Did we prompt your officials to plunder the public coffers? Did we forge your election results? Did we prevent you from building a public healthcare system? And what about an education system? Modern agriculture? Developed industry?"

True intellectual would feel insulted.

Ihab, the only thing that keeps the Middle East in a reasonably peaceful condition is the existence of Israel. Your governments (so far) have managed to easily divert the attention of ordinary people from the real problems to "evil occupation". If Israel somehow disappears (don't hold your breath, because it won't happen), your artificial countries, which are the remnants of the Ottoman empire, will create havoc, trying to destroy each other. Just look at your own country, divided along sectarian lines, and imagine the same ferocious conflict BETWEEN the Arab nations. You still have centuries to go to reach the level of democratic, social and technological development of Israel. Good luck.
35. Faulty reality
Ezra ,   West Bloomfield, MI   (02.13.11)
This comment brings self-hating non-sense to a new low. I would like to meet the Israeli who set a goal of preventing arab prosperity and then ask him, on behalf of jews everywhere, what tricks he has up his sleeve to ensure his own prosperity. That Israel stunted Egyptian growth by giving it American money is absurd on multiple levels. Even if Israel could control that evil money, let the Egyptians turn it down if it is so damaging. Moron. Let Hashem send you the speedy recovery you deserve.

Boy - the english of the syrian eagle is real good and the hebrew is very poor. Sounds like someone is trying to protray someone he is not. Here's some news, eagle. take a shovel and did in Israel. You will find coins that are a thousand years old, in Hebrew. This is jewish land and has so been since pre-temple time. You are not a good arab imitator and your anti-semitism makes you a terrible christain.
37. My Problem With Yair Lapid - Galant Interview On Israeli TV
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (02.13.11)
He's a good writer but where is the courage when there is nobody firing back. Lapid is such a pussy when he interviews tough guests like Yoav Galant. His questions are embarrasingly weak and he never goes for the kill. The reason Galant appeared on Lapid's show and not London & Kirshenbaum is he knew he could show up drunk and expect weak questions.
38. More Lapid hubris
Ilan ,   Ariel   (02.13.11)
Intellectual is an abused term. It is a nice label for the elites who want to justify that they are members of the elite class. Not necessarily smarter, wiser or better than anyone else so a self-applied label is helpful. I feel sorry for Egyptians in that they have put their hope that there will be a real change in their society and all they have succeeded in doing was to switch the picture of Mubarak on the banners with some other functionary. They deserve much better than another military junta..

I started reading this journal's articles after the Tunisian revolution, just because I was curious to know the israelis impressions of it. Yair Lapid surprised me with his opinion! good to know there are jew in israel who really want to hold a dialogue with arabs!
41. Intellectuals? Abraham is a common myth.
jmk ,   nyc   (02.13.11)
Av-Ram then Av-Raham that is myth. Mohammed is a myth, Jesus is a myth. Zeus is a myth, as is Krishna and Buddha. Intellectuals who are so daft to blindly followprimitive constructions are worthless.
42. For a moment there I was worried, Ussishkin
Tahl   (02.13.11)
A post of your where you speak only of the faults of Arab countries, without criticizing and smearing Israel? Seemed like you were sick or something. But thank goodness you made sure to set things back to normal with your last sentence.
43. Israel is also a master at the blame game
crackerjack   (02.13.11)
What wasn't to blame for Israel's problems? Arabs, UN, EU, Amnesty Int , China, Islam, Socialism, Russians, Obama, Turks, Iran, Saddam...the world in general.
44. #8: So Israel IS responsible for all Egypt's problems?

Most Israelis are passionate about peace and eager for dialogue and good neighbors, despite the many challenges to get there. Israelis are also comfortable with argument, and welcome different opinions, even critical ones. It's a shame more people do not know this, but I'm glad that you have discovered it. Tell your friends! Come visit Israel at meet with people and with the government!

Hello Ezra, my good friend! Firstly, I am Syrian by 100% (father and mother are Syrians). Secondly, you do not want to accept that there Syrians who know English very well. The reason is that you want your enemies to be backwarded and under-developed. Any progress of your enemies (including enhanced language skills) will worry you and you will regard this as a threat to your security. I know I would find coins in Hebrew. But guess what... You will find them everywhere... There were jews a long time ago. You are right. There were jews who were peacefully living with non-jews. However, you must admit that many of those jews later converted to christianity or Islam (or first to christianity and then to Islam). However, israyel is nothing else than jewish infiltrators. These jews were always living in Europe and then came to occupy the land of the Palestinians. Finally, let me emphasize that I am not anti-semit (I can not be anti-semit because I am Arab). I am just Anti-zionists and pro-justice, pro-freedom, pro-democracy and pro-progress! But it is good that you are in the US, Ezra. That is a very good decision for you and your family and your future children. You provided them with security. I hope that the other israyielis will follow you soon! Have a nice day!

50. #47 Arabs in Israel are originially from Arabia. No more lies
(02.13.11)
Jewish people only went to Europe when Israel was occupied by Romans and then Moslem occupiers. No amount of lies can change the truth about history.. if you are an intellectual, Mr. Lapid should really read your answer. Then he can understand that there is absultely no intellectuals among Arabs but liers who only say what they want in order to justify occupying Jewish people's land.
51. Damn, Eshkol, his father kick your ass down the street?

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.14.11)
I think you have forgotten the seven decades of terror visited upon the Jews of Israel and in the Diaspora. You imply that Israel is responsible for the plight of the ersatz "Palestinians." Nothing could be further from the truth. They should have accepted partition in 1947, or the twice since then that a two-state solution was proffered. The one in 2000 would have given them 90% of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a capital. The offer was rejected and they decided to start the second intifada instead. The ersatz "Palestinians" are not interested in peaceful co-existence with Israel; they want to supplant Israel. And that will never happen.
